Excellent place to relax and spend a bit of time. There is plenty of space for a picnic on the grass or at one of the tables. Also, lots of space for children to run around. There is a little playground for kids, as well. The animals seem content, and cared for. The enclosures provides the animals with space to roaming around, which means you are not guaranteed to see them up close. It might be best to go during feeding times (Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 4pm)Price is for a day access so you can leave and return on the same day.
Loved it. Lions are well cared for, beautiful enclosures, clean water, well fed. Attention to detail regarding their wellbeing is of the highest Ive ever seen. Field guide was very informative, helpful and enthusiastic. Chimpanzees were also very well looked after and the guide also informative and helpful showing a lot of love for the animals.
Worth a visit. The stories of how the lions ended up at the park is sad but its good knowing they are now cared for and have a suitable enclosure. The price of entry is reasonable and well worth it in my opinion at R100 for adults as this allowed entry into the chimp park as well.Additionally theres also a tiger at the park and a lama at the entrance so bonus encounters. Also you can purchase pony and goat food to feed the aminals you see when you enter.
Brilliant work being done at this sanctuary. Beautiful, serene setting. Staff very friendly. Perfect spot to picnic. Small park for kids to play in. Lots and lots of space for them to run around. Wear a sunhat and comfy shoes. Be prepared to do lots of walking!
Lion Park is a wonderful place to be.... the lions is not the in same mood everyday. To enjoy you need go 3 to 4 days after each other to see the BEAUTY of it. Same for Chimp Haven and the PEOPLE that works there is a +. Ill say give 5 STARS
Beautiful sanctuary with over 25 saved and rescued lions and tigers. It is very clear that staff truly cares about the magical beasts that were saved from illegal pet trading, zoos, and circuses from all over the world. Entry fee is R90 p/adult and R50 p/child. This also gives you free access to the chimpanzee park next door.Guests have access to the whole park. There are numerous picnic and seating spots. All animals have enough space in their enclosures and seem to be very content and relaxed.
The lion park is just brilliant, a safe haven for these amazing animals who have been so badly treated in the past. We stayed overnight, I highly recommend this experience. You see the best of the big cat action after 5pm when they start waking up. The tented camp is really comfortable and the team put on a fab break under African stars for the guests. The lions roar All Night, while this is amazing, eventually he novelty does wear off, so earplugs are recommended!
Wonderful to see these animals close up especially kids loved it !Worth the small donation
An amazing place for both kids and adults. The staff here is doing an amazing job of looking after white lions that cannot be rehabilitated back in the jungle. Some of the lions here were kept in people balconies as pets. Some were rescued from horrific conditions. A touching story indeed that demonstrates the selfishness of human beings.
Awesome place to spend the day with the family. Really enjoyed it alot.
Beautifully looked after cats. They come from the worst conditions and are given a second chance with minimal human interaction. We got to see them sunbathe, playing, being affectionate. Will definitely go back. Loved it!
Amazing place for a family outing kids with be entertained for hours. Pricing isnt bad either.
Not a bad place, but if its not feeding time, you’re better off watching lion videos on YouTube. They should consider feeding the lions on a Saturday. The monkeys were slightly more entertaining, but all in all not so much value for money.
This lion park is one of the best I have been too, they have really big enclosures for the lions and I happened to be there for the feeding which is great as all the lions get active and roar a lot. We ended up staying at the accommodation in preset-up tents. The R780 included a braai meal dinner which was lovely. I highly recommend this experience and had such a great time. All the rangers are friendly and very knowledgeable. 10/10
I do not understand the previous posts. We have been there and we have seen a lot of lions hanging around. Even on such a hot day as it was today. Please get there to support this place, it is not a Zoo similar, it is a place were they take care of these animals and they need every penny to survive. It is worth spending money for a relative fair ticket price, see lions and support the team there who take care of these animals.
The lions are well cared for with plenty of space to roam around. The members of staff are very passionate about them which is a great thing to see. We took the kids and my grandma to see the lions. They even opened the side gate which is reserved for staff only so that my grandma could enter since the entrance is by climbing up and down the stairs. Some lions were active and very vocal which both kids and adults enjoyed. We had someone walk with us and tell us the stories behind each lion, very sad but that gave us and understanding about some of their characters. A day well spent in a very clean place. We also found out that you can camp here.
Lovely place to take family out for the day
It is amazing to see these majestic beast of the African continent up close and personal.Although there is strictly no human contact / intervention allowed with these brilliant animals, they can be viewed from a point of safety and is an exhilarating experience of note. The place is superbly maintained and the Lions and other animals are extremely well taken care of. No visit to Cape Town will be the same without coming here for a visit. This kind of opportunity is very rare.A modest entrance fee is charged and you have the opportunity to “adopt” a lion. This contribution goes toward the upkeep and welfare of the animals the so lovingly care for. They do not bread, they have all been rescued from near death experiences at the hands of humans. Picnic facilities, camping facilities.
Was so cool to see all the lions in the park.Ask about feeding days so you can see them, otherwise they might be asleep or hidden. We also spent the night here, we brought kosher meat and did it on the bbq, was nice to meet new people there, but hardly slept between loud wind and lions growling the whole night.
Lovely place to see rescued and mistreated animals have some sense of freedom and natural life.
Wow best it was nice...love that they tell the stories of the lions.
Awesome experience! very well manager facility, clean and well kept. The lions have tons of space and seem very relaxed and now safe.Very friendly staffWould be cool to seem some fact boards around
Loved seeing the lions in such great enclosures! The motivation behind the project is also really inspiring
A wonderful Place with very nice People how cares about abused Animals 😍❤️🐈🦁
A very nice place where you can see diffrent type of lions. Make sure you visit during the feeding days, only two days a week
Had a good experience here great to see the lions in a nice safe place away from bad humans!Had a particularly nice experience with Barbara working at chimp haven... I had no WiFi or data and she helped me order an uber back to Ashia cheetah exp. Such a nice woman!
A real awesome place and awesome experience. Take a picnic basket and get the entire family excited. I cant wait to go again, hopefully on feeding days... :)
Absolutely loved the experience at this park. Those lions are amazing :)
A place thats got so much more potential, lion park definitely have to work on making the experience of visiting much more memorable, we as visitors and lion fans and admirers need to get a closer look and feel of the lions,(like get us safely in the lion camp for that real close up experience) have like maybe short videos and a story of the lions we about to see, then let us see them, but I got close to a female, and it was a great sight and experience.
It was such a wonderful experience and we enjoyed seeing all the big cats. I got my long walk to freedom on that day, because the park is extremely wide-spread. I wont mind to go there again, love Nature.💫
Great place to take friends or kids. Just make sure you have flat shoes and lots of drinks. The walk is far and hot.
Drakenstein Lion Park is always a pleasure to visit. I keep coming back! Its King Brutus who captured my heart. The birdsong accompanied by the odd lion lounging in a tree to Leonidus majestic mane and huge paws creating a dust cloud under the sacred earth he calls home after living a tragic past. Such are the stories of all 28 captive born lions and 1 tiger. You can taste the tranquility from the moment you step into the park. This is what life is like here..therefore must visit is in perfect order. May Cape Town saturate this true sanctuary with her presence now.
Call ahead and enquire about their feeding times so you can have the full experience. Such beautiful animals
Very nice - will definitely go again in the afternoon when they feed the lions
A great introduction to lions and the chance to stay overnight amidst the roars of the beasts! Staying overnight is advised and worthwhile! Watch a gorgeous sunset while hearing roars and sleep with the sounds of lions in your ears! Excellent dinner (braai!) and a guide to give you the low-down on all things lion. Tip: Day trips are best done if temperatures are not above 35°C as the lions stay in the shade out of view. Wonderful experience!
An amazing place in which the lions are well cared for. They have large enclosures and are well fed. The viewing decks provided offer good views of these lovely animals. Overall an outstanding experience.
This is an awesome cause. They rescue chimpanzees and lion. The staff is very helpful and knowledable. This place should be supported by all who love animals.
Quite a lot of lions, 29 to be exact and 1 tiger. Would prefer enquiring when feeding times are because then you would see activity from lions
Very nice
Nice place to see lions that have been rescued from bad conditions. The lions are beautiful and sleeping place is available to sleep next to the lion camps.
Had an amazing member of the staff who walked through the park with us and regaled us with stoties of how the lions came about being in their care.
An amazing experience. Best to go when it feeding time.
Great place, all lions are rescued and well treated there
Lions well looked after. Thank you for offering them a sanctuary and the public access to view these beautiful creatures
Drakenstein is an amazing place to visit . The lions have been rescued from some truly terrible situations and are free to live the remainder of their lives in peace . The overnight tented camp is truly an amazing experience , waking up to hear roars only a matter of feet away . Everytime we come on holiday we visit🦁🦁🦁
Quite basic lion park. Not much for a visitor but what is more important is that the lions have a place where they are taken care of. There is an enterence fee.
We loved it, kids really loved all the animals. Take a picnic basket, make a fun day of it.
LOVED this sanctuary! A true sanctuary, giving the best lifes to lions coming from abusive situations that would otherwise not survive in the wild.
This is a fantastic experience. Tens are comfortable. Lions amazing and staff friendly. Highly recommended
This sanctuary is doing such important work. Its well worth a visit!
Just seeing these rescued animals and the good this park is doing.
A wonderful Sanctuary. They have quite a few lions, including some of the rare white lions, all rescued from terrible circumstances. There are even some caracels. The staff is passionate and knowledgeable and very friendly. There is a tented camping site for those that would like an overnight experience. The feedings are spectacular to see. Would be awesome to see see what they could accomplish with more donors, at both the Lion Park, and the Chimp Sanctuary next door. At the Chimp Sanctuary there are some beautiful parrots and swans, as well as marmosets and capuchins that were taken in when Tygerburg Zoo closed down. Super affordable ticket prices, a great family outing that wont break the bank
Just an awesome experience. These guys should all receive medals for what they are doing.
Very nice and interesting would definitely recommend to all ages
Lovely place for a family outing
It was cool. Those guys (lions) are huge. It was my first time to see the lions.
Great visit, large enclosures, many different lions. Chimp sanctuary was also awesome.
Really loved it.make sure to visit when its feeding time.
Saw rare White Lions. Very enjoyable, well priced
Friendly staff and animals are well looked after. Great trip for the kids.
I enjoyed my visit it was fascinating and intresting to learn about the poor lions who lived in harsh conditions but thanks to the grouph of drakenstein lion park . who provided good shelter and food to the animals
Loved the park. Great work they are doing to take care of animals that are no longer capable of being wild do to human ignorance.
Love what they offering the animals. Sad to hear why the animals is there
Great place enjoyed my time in the park. Kids also enjoyed seeing the lions.
This is a bit of a walk but its worth it to see the animals inside this center. Its just sad to see animals that is supposed to be running wild and free, locked up in encounters much smaller than they would have in the wild.
One of the best Ive ever experienced in my life. A must see for everyone once in a lifetime. It was ausom
Very nice place and the sleep over tents were very nice
Visiting between 10 and 3 is not worth it. You just see a few lions sleeping and so far away. The guide said theyre awake before 9 in the morning and after 3 in the afternoon they start to wake again
Kids loved watching the lions
Getting there at feeding time is a treat. ..its the best time to visit
Amazing place! No cub petting and no breeding. All the animals are extremely well looked after and their enclosures are very well kept. Staff are very friendly and informative.
Great experience especially for kids
This place have lions that been rescued from all around the world it will be nice to support
