We loved our three night stay at Fossil Ridge Eco Camp. Beautifully laid out. Both tents have plenty of privacy tucked away amongst the thorn trees. The bathrooms Were spotless. The kitchen was well equipped. The eco pool, although chilly when we visited in winter, was gorgeous & worth a freezing dip. A short path from the pool leads to a level area wth two deck chairs with stunning view. Ideal for sunset drinks.

Mountaneous unspoilt nature at its best! Nature reserve managed by Cape Nature. Normal vehicles can access main camp near northern entrance through unpaved access road. Self catering accommodation available. Day hiking on various footpaths can be done. Vehicles with 4X4, high clearance and low range can negotiate the various roads in the nature reserve. Roads into mountain are very rocky and narrow and extreme care is needed to prevent tyre damage. Spectacular scenic views from top of pass. Excellent drive for 4X4 enthusiasts and nature lovers. Proteas and mountain zebras are further highlights.

Just outside of Oudtshoorn on the road to Calitzbdorp sits this gem of a nature reserve. It offers overnight accommodation from campsites and cost-effective converted stables to more luxurious tented bush camps. The Tierkloof offers hikes including an overnight route to Ou Kraal on the plateau as well as rock climbing routes for the more adventurous. There is also a 4x4 trail for 4x4 enthusiasts. A wonderful place for the whole family to enjoy. The night skies are especially wonderful.

This is our second visit to Gamkaberg Tierkloof camp , the camp can host 8 people but if you book it for less you get the whole camp to yourself ! Facilities are comprehensive and well maintained . The lounge even has a wood burning stove for winter and a lapa with comfortable folding chairs and choice of standing braai or fire pit type cooking. Take your own braai tools as these are not supplied as they get stolen regularly. Each tent has its own deck and comfortable lounge chairs covering a variety of bed options from kingsize to twin singles. The 4x4 trail is awesome but requires an experienced driver due to some dramatic slopes and gullies . Ablutions are as to be expected in a bush camp but plenty of hot water! Kitchen is well equipped. No 220v mains but very good solar lighting system. Birding is very good and Fynbos Buttonquails can be flushed on the top of the mountain. Taking advantage of regular discounts offered out of season makes for a very affordable break.

The place is dramatic. It is arid little Karoo landscape with Cape Fold mountains, gorges, mountain passes, and a variety of walks and hikes. The 4x4 trail is awesome. Not macho man three wheel stuff, with rocks to break the vehicle. A well-maintained route with spectacular drop-offs and some great viewpoints, from which we looked down on a pair of Black Eagles hunting in the gorge. The plant life us unique and totally amazing. Highly adapted succulents and hardy bushes one does not see anywhere else. Good birds. Excellent camp site with a really surprisingly good shower etc. All spotless and well-maintained. Not often found by campers! Very pleasant staff and excellent interpretive materials.

We loved the Gamkaberg Nature Reserve. Our tented camp for 2 couples was well planned and very pleasant. We had two problems, one of the composting toilet fans was not working which made that bathroom unpleasant to use, and the second was that the swimming pool pump was broken, (we were advised of this before our arrival and being cold we wouldnt have used it anyway!) All the staff we came into contact with were well trained and charming. We would definitely go back.

We spent 3 nights in the campsite and cannot fault a thing in this well managed and spotless reserve. We enjoyed the beautiful views and immaculate facilities at the campsite. The 4x4trail is challenging enough to get the adrenaline pumping a bit, and it leads up to spectacular landscapes. You truly are in the land of the gods up on top of the mountain. We had a picnic at the gorgeous Oukraal campsite, and saw the elusive Cape Mountain Zebra. The walking trails are well marked and varied, with plenty of points of interest along the way. Kudos to Cape Nature, this is an example of how all reserves should be run.

What a gem! Welcomed by Adriaan it was obvious the staff have fully bought into providing excellent service with a smile. We stayed at Tierkloof Eco for two nights and enjoyed every minute! The 4*4 trip up to Oukraal was an eye opener, beautiful views we saw eland and enjoyed a brunch at the overnight hut which was immaculate. Nice to see the Orange breasted sunbirds showing off. PS try Best Drive in Oudtshoorn for getting out of hours tyres.... two sidewalls on an Amarok were replaced with a smile 👌🏻

We visited this Cape Nature Reserve in May 2016 with four friends in two other 4x4 vehicles. We were made to feel very welcome at reception and given the low down on the Reserve including receiving a tub of hot chocolate and packet of marshmallows for their “Winter Promotion”. We followed Willem and Piet who drove us to the Tierkloof Eco Lodge and showed us around the entire tented camp area which was spotless, the gravel paths having even been swept. Nothing was too much for them and we traipsed after them enjoying the hospitality on offer including but not limited to a beautiful eco pool (for hot summer months). We spent two nights there split by one night at Oukraal (on top of the mountain) in little 2-bed log cabins, which were such a delight and an unexpected find. Again the campsite was clean and well maintained. We would highly recommend this local getaway venue. Thank you to all the Gamkaberg Staff who made every effort to make our stay enjoyable. Regards Malcolm, Shelagh, Greg, Sandy, Mark & Teresa
