I havent been to the Cango Caves in many years, but the upside of COVID-19 is that the tour groups are very small providing ample opportunity to take pictures without people in the shot. The downside is that only the heritage tour is open at the moment - but definitely worth the visit for photo ops. What a unique opportunity!

Always a special place since my first visit in the 80’s with the folks. My dad did the full adventure route with me. So a bit disappointed that COVID-19 closed the adventure section cos I definitely wanted to take my kids. Nevertheless still an awesome place to visit. R150 an adult and R100 per child is slightly on the steep side. Will definitely be back

What a brilliant experience! The Cango Caves are incredible and so interesting, it really is worth a visit and joining a tour. My guide, Jason, was brilliant. He was informative, funny and able to explain the very complicated science in an understandable way. I was so impressed and would definitely recommend it as a must-do activity while in Oudtshoorn!PS if you are in the area - the tourism office in Oudtshoorn is incredibly helpful and they are so passionate about their area. Please pop in when you are in town!

Every South African should visit this historic landmark at least once. The tour is excellent and our guide was passionate, informative with a great sense of humour. We loved every second of the tour. Pity the restaurant and curio shop closed due to Covid, but hopefully they will soon be operating again

My second time there after 30 years. We were lucky to not have to queue at all, we arrived and went straight into the standard tour (unfortunately the adventure tour was not happening with covid restrictions). Our tour guide was fantastic and combined some historical know how with humor and charm. It was really great to explore the caves as an adult and the sheer size of some of the caves was really an eye opener. Even if you have lived in South Africa your entire life you should still visit the famous Cango Caves. There are a lot of stairs to climb in the caves so dress light and carry light. It’s quite humid in the caves but no matter the weather outside, the caves are always around 19 degrees inside.

A sixty minute stroll through some pretty cool formations. Our guide was wonderful. It was relaxed and informative. I hate to say anything good has come from this awful pandemic, so I wont. It was strange to be the only ones in the tour that normally would max out at 100.Dont miss the drive over Swartberg pass and the waterfall at Meringspoort. Awesome and gorgeous.

Family friendly, fun tour through these magnificent and ancient caves, you can do it in flip flops :) Temperature is about 19 degrees Celsius in the caves. Last tour is at 3pm. Restaurant is currently closed until further notice.Beautiful and such a great learning experience about the formations. A must-do if in the area or surrounding Garden route/Klein karoo. We drove from mossel bay to view the beautiful meirings poort fountain just past oudtshoorn and then drove back towards the cango caves then back to oudtshoorn for dinner and onwards to mosselbay. Managed the trip comfortably in a day and saw the most scenic mountain passes. Truly beautiful.

The cave is located right as you exit Oudtshoorn, its a clear route unlikely to get lost. The staff is welcoming and friendly. We were offered to take a quick tour in the building before purchasing tickets, no pressure applied. The lady in the ticket section was hospitable, she explained to us about the tour and scheduled times. Its unfortunate the restaurants were closed due to Covid 19 pandemic. Nevertheless, our tour was awesome. We were guided by a gentleman by the name of Alfred. He is very much informed about the caves. The tour was humourous and accommodating, I was with my 4yr old daughter and she surely enjoyed. I recommend the visit, its not too busy as people are still observing the Covid 19 restrictions. If you get a chance your support at the Cango would be highly appreciated.

5 stars for cave and 0 for our guide. His behavior wa really unprofessional. Whole tour took 13 minutes to come to the end of the cave. I wasted 150 rand on that. Other guides looked more professional. I would definitely prefer to visit on my own, without necessity to run promptly to finish tour ASAP. Johnny he said was his name. Even didnt say goodbye at the end.Updated: contacted on-site manager, came to second excursion and Lee was on top of everything, tour was enjoyable.

The Cango Caves are located in Precambrian limestones at the foothills of the Swartberg range near the town of Oudtshoorn, in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. The principal cave is one of the countrys finest, best known, and most popular tourist caves and attracts many visitors from overseas. Although the extensive system of tunnels and chambers go on for over 4 km (2+1⁄2 mi), only about a quarter of this is open to visitors, who may proceed into the cave only in groups supervised by a guide.

Insightful experience into how the cango caves were discovered and formed. Its the biggest cave in South Africa. Youll see massive stalagmite and stalactite structures throughout the cave. Some of them merging and creating completed columns. Its really fascinating to see how small they start and how massive the structures can grow over hundreds of years from water dripping. A walk through history is always welcomed. If youre adventurous theres a tour where u can venture deeper and crawl through small holes. Since I visited during covid this wasnt operational. Theres also a section in the cave that was used for concerts but they stopped doing this as people started vandilising and breaking pieces of the cave. Youll still walk through this area and our tour guide was kind enough to sing for us. We listened to this heavenly echo, it really sounded amazing. Also, be prepared for complete and utter darkness once they turn off the lights.

It wasnt our first time but the kids were very young when we went first time so it was great for them to see it again when they older and can understand the significance of it all.
