What a lovely place!!! Magnificent views with such friendly and accommodating staff, from the owner right through to the waiters. 1st place where the accommodation, food and views were absolutely amazing!!! The owner was actively involved with the staff and guests at breakfast which was really nice to see. The manager was such a friendly helpful gentleman and the rest of the staff so helpful and friendly. The cottages are lovely and stylish and the electric blankets was a warm touch to a very cold 2 nights... Appreciated them so much. The view from our stoep was breathtaking and it was truly peaceful!! The breakfast was out of this world... A true farmers- breakfast... Can recommend this place to anyone!!!

The most beautiful farm setting in the Schoemanshoek Valley in Oudtshoorn. A place to unwind and relax with an attentive house in Laura, who saw to all our needs.

What a wonderful experience! We are always on the lookout for a spot to take our two large dogs (Weimaraners) who need space. Well, Berluda did not only deliver on the pet friendly aspect but also the human luxury aspect! The rooms are homely and beautifully set out with a kitchen stocked with everything you may need. There is a large braai area at each cottage and plenty open space & gardens. The breakfast (which is included) was top notch and every single staff member so friendly I could just pack them all in my bag and bring them home.I guarantee I will be back when Im in the Oudtshoorn area!LOVED OUR STAY!!!

My husband and I are staying at a secluded log cabin that is part of Berluda and we are so happy with our stay. This we love about Berluda:1. The location. The Klein Karoo is a magical part of South Africa: teeming with life, hauntingly beautiful, utterly unique. The Karoo is an arid part of South Africa that is, perhaps for that very reason, a unique place to explore te variety and resilience of life and earth. This goes for the wildlife, plant and bird varieties, the nearby caves, as well as the people and their history.2. The privacy and seclusion. This is a perfect spot to slow down and turn inward. It is quiet and private, capacious, vast. When we stay here we feel alone and connected at the same time.3. The service is impeccable. And the accommodation is part of a family-run farm operation, something that is quite unique to us, coming from the U.S. where most of these kinds of places are corporatized. What we recommend visitors keep in mind:- This is an arid semi-desert, so be prepared for heat and sun. And be prepared to be blown away by the explosion of life right after a summer rainstorm!

Avoid Avoid Avoid! Huge tourist rip off! Dont eat dinner at the restaurant. Terrible food. Set menu with no starters or desert. Had cottage pie and cabbage salad for R300pp 😥 . Wife is vegetarian and no other option but boiled vegetables. Other option was frozen baked hake.. beds at Montana uncomfortable and mosquitoes!!

The accommodation is on par for its price. Bed was very comfy and the place was clean. - Shower drain was clogged. + The setting of the venue is quite pleasant with staff being very friendly. - I highly recommend not eating dinner there, really really poor meals. +Breakfast was decent and had variety.

Rooms and garden with pool are really nice. Breakfast is pretty weak (in fact weakest of our 3 week trip; toast and some deep fried whatsoever, watery scrambled eggs, fruit salad out of the can). Upon arrival they will try to hard sell dinner with them (280 R pp). Just go to Buffelsdrift Game Reserve to have a dinner on their terrific terrace (dinner for two < 280 R in total and really good).

Ambience, decor and service standard from the 80s without any of the charm. On arrival we got a hard sell for the ostrich farm tour, meerkat safari and supper that night before wed even checked in. For the information, all of these things can be bought cheaper and better elsewhere. Our greeting letter as we walked into our cold cottage was addressed to a different family. The date was correct and their surname has 7 fewer letters in it so this wasnt a typo or left over. Everything that can have a lavender sprig on it has a lavender sprig on it. Every towel, Evey loo roll, every bed. The shower is a dark hole in the corner of a bathroom that has heating lights but no lights without heaters. We chose to have supper at Berluda although in reality this was soggy vegetables and ostrich/eland steak either overcooked or blue, with no questions asked about how you want it cooked. Crepe Suzette was a cold anemic pancake rolled up with a ball of gelatinous ice cream next to it. We were told that they were doing fish for the two pescatarians in our party, but there were no pescatarians in our party.4-6 hours later three of us were feeling queasy and in the early hours of the morning two of us were projectile vomiting supper into the toilet. The longed for ostrich scrambled egg was not an option for breakfast that morning and we decided not to do any tours that afternoon as we felt dreadful. At breakfast we told one of the staff about being ill and she expressed sympathy, and also surprise that we could be ill from eating at Berluda. We thought she might pass on our comments at least to the manager and chef, but no. On check out, we were charged the full amount for our meal. We expressed surprise at this to the woman checking us out and she fetched the manager. At last we thought we might get some understanding. The manager greeted us in German, totalling three times that the staff had no idea who we were. We explained what happened and you guessed it, the manager expressed complete disbelief that we could have been ill from their food and asked what we had eaten for lunch that day. We had eaten nothing for lunch that day as we had had a late breakfast and driven for 5 hours to get there. She did at least offer to take supper off the bill. So the food, but not the drinks, were removed from the bill. They still insisted on charging ~£14 for the wine, tea and hot chocolate. To add further insult, the card machine didnt work so they insisted we fill out a form so they could still get the £14 off us later. How much is their reputation worth on social media just to say, dont worry about this, suppers on us, were so sorry you felt ill during your stay with us. The outside area and fireside settees are pretty here although the latter is by a stand of ostrich eggs for sale - cant miss an opportunity to get more money off the guests. The whole customer service is absent though. Avoid. Its not even that accommodation competition is low. For an extra £50 a night you can stay at the game lodge 9 minutes drive away, with enormous quantities of great food watching hippos swim in the water in front of you.

I had the opportunity of travelling in South Africa, and comparing all the accommodation (ranging between expensive and cheap places), this was definitely the worst, not because of the place itself, but the organization and the service. The place is very nice, including a pool, unfortunately it wasnt cleaned. It was sandy and it even had a frog swimming there! We paid one of the most expensive dinners in this place, but what we received was just a bad joke, a piece of meat so little that we still were waiting for the second part. Another couple also seemed to think the same based on the expression on their faces. But the worst came the last day, we explained this to the admin lady and what did she do? She called the chef and we had to repeat the story. Shouldnt the admin have talked with the chef herself?!We are not going to repeat this mistake.

We spent a wonderful three nights at Berluda recently. Its the kind of place that keeps getting better the longer you stay. Our cottage (#8) was comfortable (the beds were fabulous), simply equipped with everything we needed. The garden gave the boys a place to let off steam. We particularly enjoyed the Meercat safari with Leon and the Ostrich Farm tour with Isabella; both relaxed, uncommercial, interesting, educational experiences. The breakfasts were wonderful (a little too wonderful - I needed the hired bike that was seamlessly arranged for me to burn some calories!).Excellent location just outside Oudsthoorn - feels rural, but easy access to all the attractions). Would definitely recommend.

We are with a group of 35 people for a period of 4 weeks with FOX Travel on our way in South Africa. Stayed for 2 days in Oudtshoorn. During this trip (we are leaving for Kaapstad tomorrow) we have to leave the BERLUDA FARMHOUSE unfortunately. Our stay was wonderful and relaxing. The houses were neat and clean. The kitchenstaff also needs a compliment. Unfortunemately a bit far away from the Netherlands otherwise we would come back here once a year.

Super great cottages with lots of space. Decorated in the old style with great attention to detail. Definitely join the different tours ... there is something to be amazed at. For the children there is a huge playground with camel rides, water slides, etc. just before the Cango Caves, for the parents a space for an extensive aperitif.
