I was received by very friendly and helpfull staff. The guide knew what he was talking about and was very knowledgable. It was a real nice expierence. π
I had the most wonderful time πππThank you sooo much but there was no good todayπ
It was not part of the plan; we were on our way to Durban and for some reason we decided to off-ramp to check out the place as it is not too far from the freeway. The museum was closed for renovations, however, there was some event happening as it was a public holiday, Youth Day to be specific.Theres a lot of history to learn along the long walk to the sculpture of Nelson Mandela. Its a great place and I will definitely visit again when the museum is open.
If you want to learn about umthatha and the house of abathembu
This morning some colleagues and I decided to treat ourselves after a laborious week. We were not ready. This place is packed full of history, well presented and well curated. Im really impressed that they make the effort to revamp add rejuvenate the museum every now and then. There are so many good features about this museum. We could have easily spent over 4 hours in the museum. Be prepared to read a lot though. Like his book, A long walk to freedom, there is a lot to describe about the magical life of Madiba. My only suggestion would be to innovate and add other more modern displays to the experience. I have visited far worse than this abroad and am pleased his legacy is not being tarnished.
We ( Epikanini Promotions CC, from East London, a promotional company specializing in corporate gifts and clothing, marketing material, diaries, notebooks, awards and so much more) delivered promotional items for the museum, like 2021 calendars, note books, key holders, flags and many more items, however the museum is currently closed, the staff were very accommodating in assisting us with the delivery, very professional, followed all Covid-19 regulations
An illustrative narrative well displayed. A very good experience of a lifetime within a short period into the life of an icon
Lovely museum to visit. Large and spacious. What a treat to see the actual cell of Nelson Mandela. The restrooms were exceptional- modern, clean with air freshener, hand lotion, sanitizing wash. Outside gardens also beautiful.More suited to older learners and adults as it required lots of reading.
Fantastic experience, free entry and amazingly dedicated and passionate guides show you around for free.Parking can be an issue around the site. Combine the visit with a trip to McDonalds across the main road and you can park in the shopping complex car park for free.
Educational
Its a great museum reflecting the times of Mr Nelson Mandela in great detail with historic facts. A good place to get into all that was Nelson Mandela, its a tourist must see if in the Mthatha area.
The museum is clean and serene. It has a lot of readings on the walls where you can read as you walk past.
Very educational as the name says.. all u need to know about Mandela
This museum is very beautiful and with a lot of history of our own icon Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela
Beautiful and welcoming museum. Super friendly staff and tour guides.
They have warm welcoming and they give a fully information to the visitors.
One of your to do list when you are in Mthatha. A hidden treasure about one of mthathas greatest treasures.
Very informative. Guide well informed, the letters from kids added a special touch as we all know Madiba to have loved kids
It was what it promised to be a wealth of information and refeeences
Its A nice museum...
Tata Madiba, we salute you!
Love history... And his History
It has Tata Madiba full history
Friendly tour guides, secured and best Mandela posters
Political nonsense. A nogo
All I can say its WOW even the workers are doing a great job. ...well done!!!
Nice place to go to see our heroes
This is the best place to be history of South Africa , and the cell of tata Nelson mandela is there
Wow!! If theres anything that is breath taking touching and very interesting to see and know about Madiba pls visit this place. Only very concerning issue is parking. Theres absolutely none what so ever as Mthatha is such a congested town every parking is occupied π
Great knowledge on the history of the Transkie
A very emotional experience but one Ill never forget. Thanks to the staff and all who left us a piece of Our Madiba. All should visit the museum; all of SA can learn from our Madiba.
It is beautiful and anybody who regards Mandela as a hero should visit the museum
Very interesting museum with super helpful and friendly staff to show you around.
A really poor museum. Most of the displays were empty and the whole place a was a shambles. A massive let down to the memory of one of the worlds greatest leaders.
Very informative and inspiring.
While in town we decided to visit this museum. Documents and preneted photos had some interest. However, we were surprised by the lack of competency from the staff; highly pronounced disballance in information presentation; furthermore, incorrect information presented as facts. When pointed out, staff responded with boderline inappropriate and emotionally charged responces. Strange experience, at best.
Shows comprehensive information about Nelson Mandelas history but it could have been better organised
I was so happy to be there
Its a nice place
A really good insight to the life of Nelson Mandela
Preserved African history
Busy upgrading the museum for 2017, not that much items on display, but if you consider that it is free to enter and in the middle of Qunu it really doesnt matter. This is where Tata Madiba grew up, went to school and played as a kid. It is such an honour to walk where he walked. The sliding rock is an amazing place and the views from the museum over Qunu is incredible. Friendly volunteers that take you on a guided tour. Appreciate it for what it is, where it is and not for the content!
Informative. Historic.
Always beautiful experience being in the museum
Never visited anything so appalling in my life. A vast, modern structure where there are a few photos of Nelson Mandelas life around the walls of two otherwise empty rooms. There really is nothing here. Everything is in decay despite it being only 16 years since it was opened. Only one set of female toilets working and they had water running all over the floor. The front gate has wooden slats which are all falling off. There is a huge industrial kitchen in which it looks as though not even an egg has been boiled to serve a closed up conference centre and restaurant. Six staff sit by the gate on plastic chairs or on the ground utterly disinterested though one, wearing an MTN tracksuit did approach us and said he was a guide. No name, no uniform, no knowledge. The access road is so covered in litter and uncleared vegetation that one wonders if it is actually open. Dont be fooled by the photos, this place is a disgrace and must be closed immediately because it is utterly unworthy to be called a museum and makes one want to weep at what Nelson Mandela would think today. 32kms further up the N2 is a correct and very interesting museum in the old Parliament building in Mthatha. Go there. Visited Jan 2017.
It is always quite
Amazing museum about the south african leader
Nelson Mandela is one of my heroes. To see a museum that is supposed to be dedicated to such a great man in such a sad state, was dissapointing. At least the entry was free.
Nelson Mandela Museum has three components. The physical address shown here is for the museum in Mthatha town, which indeed IS closed, but for renovations (for a ridiculously long time now!) The map, however, shows directions to the part of the museum which is in QUNU (Where Nelson Mandela grew up). This museum IS OPEN!It is a beautiful heritage site! A must see for South Africans, to remind ourselves of where this country came from. Its also a lovely museum to visit for international visitors, as there is plenty of information and education regarding South African history and the struggle. I took a drive to the museum by myself early last year, and was so impressed by the security guard who was a bit bored, so took me on a little private tour. He was so well informed and interested in the history on our country. The surrounding rolling hills are absolutely gorgeous! I went on a weekend, so unfortunately could not take a stroll through the crafts market.I went again with my family in December 2013, just after Madiba passed away, it was busy then. Many many international journalists and news people. There was an amazing vibe and celebration of the life which was our Father Tata Madiba!Nobody should pass the Eastern Cape without a stop over here. Theres no entry fee and secured off-street parking.
I enjoyed the privat atmosphere
My wish is to go there by Neslon Mandela Musiem. Bt soon ill go with ma family.
It looks so Amazing
Natural , beautiful, spacious and vegetation around which is what I like
Please note that the museum in Qunu is closed till 2019 for renovations.Very disappointing as we were really looking forward to visit.
Beautiful display of the Global icon and the struggle for freedom
A place of memories about our history as South Africans
A must place to visit place especially if you have children or passing Mthatha, there is no coffee shop available to relax after your tour of the place
