Awesome friendly environment, close to town

Spent 3 months here! Yes, 3 months! It was my base for travelling around the Western Cape and I loved it so much I have recurring dreams of it. You will almost guaranteed see whales from the kitchen when you look out to sea. Also, very conveniently located on the edge of the Garden Route, from here you can book further travel or activities.

Fantastic chilled vibe layed back atmosphere, very clean ! staff very friendly and hospitable, I love the bar area, lots to do pool table and pleanty other fun games to play . The beautiful swimming pool .Only 3min walk from the beaches and restaurants and bars.I really recommend Mossel Bay backpackers !

Lovely friendly staff, beautiful hostel (the pool is a great bonus!), clean, huge but not overly crowded. I even had a 6 bed dorm to myself. They offer breakfast and coffee and will help you book activities around town. I felt safe here and would highly recommend it!

Enjoyed the breakfast included. Safe locked parking for my vehicle. People appear friendly and helpful. Neat attractive property. They also have facilities for self catering. Appears safe to walk around at night in the neighborhood. Free wifi, tea and coffee.

Great please love staying there staff is friendly always fun company at the braai area and the pool is always clean and ready to be used. Rooms are well looked after and cleaned and the prices for the rooms is very good.Thanx guys see you next month again

Absolutely lovely place/space. Good spacious rooms. Struggled with water temperature even after following the rules 😕 waiting for half an hour and still no balanced water temperature on a cold morning not cool. Being told not to talk cos you making noise. Own alcohol not allowed 😢 after 4days of travelling and spending, I must still buy at their limited options bar is kinda not cool 😣😢 Please cater for young at heart adventurous travellers 😳

Unfortunately its a 3 from me... Having to wait for almost an hour because there was no hot water was rather disappointing. The night before even having a conversation with my colleagues was literally a no no. As per security guard in the evening... Not being able to bring in our own alcohol was also a let down, perhaps you could cater a little more to the youth, that would be amazing. .. Just a few thing but otherwise all was well, great space.

Good spot but poor guest consideration by the owner this year. Haughty and unwilling to take into consideration guest requirements (group of 25) after 5 years of staying there previously without issue. We wont be back

My companion and I arrived at Mossel Bay excited and full of vigour at the prospect of our first stop on the Garden Route. Mossel Bay backpackers was our destination! With excellent reviews across most platforms we thought what can go wrong?!. How mistaken we were.We were greeted by whom I can only imagine was the owner, a long haried, bearded chap who showed us to the reception (without an introduction) and said to the lovely lady working at the front desk to put them in the room by the bar. This is when our worries began to kick in.Before going into more detail about our room by the bar I would like to touch upon the free services that Mossel Bay Backpackers. On Hostelworld we were excited by the prospect of. FREE parking. FREE wifi. FREE breakfast. On arrival we discovered that parking was only available for people staying in private rooms. The wifi worked for about 10% of our stay, so didnt really have that either. The breakfast was laughable one small rasher of bacon, one thin slice of tomato, and an egg. All the extras cost roughly £1, even the coffee cost extra with breakfast despite it being complimentary throughout the rest of the hostel.Onto the rooms. We were put in room 17, this room consisted of two bunk beds. However with its location being by the bar it was consistently noisy, patrons of the bar used the facilities that we had paid for, this was up until about 23:00 in the evening. We were then woken each morning at about 630AM by music being put on by staff who were clearing up the bar area and clanging glasses and mugs about. To add to the lack of sleep, the curtains did not stop any light flooding into the rooms, I think I managed about 8 hours sleep over our 2 night stay. At least I made use of the complimentary coffee.Nonetheless the hostel has a fantastic kitchen area and a great pool table if this is the sort of thing you are after.

Nice cozy place, Pretty nice bar. There is Brai every day. Friendly people.. perfect location. Everything is close by. Just be careful for cops pulling you over for alcohol checks on the street.

Very friendly host. Every night braai bbq and very nicely designed rooms and outside. Parking and pool available. Self swrving kitchen, bbq and bar available.

Nice location and really friendly staff, bar guy / chef was ace - excellent bbq skills and nice guy to chat too. He recommended we walked up to the lighthouse at night, well lit and a great view as the coast is flood lit too. Recommend this place, great value per night also.

Owner is very rude. No customer care. We have been coming for 5 years this will be the last time we will come. There is more amazing cheaper places up the road

The crew from Everfelt Media had a great time at the backpackers. Super friendly staff members and hosts. You guys also make a banging cocktail! Thanks a million guys for helping us make this trip and project possible. We will definitely be back sometime.

Very comfortable and flexible accommodation, with a friendly welcome. Central location. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Secure parking round the back is very useful. The bar is great (mostly open air!) and they will set you up with a braai if you want. Been there 3 times in 3 years. Looking forward to the next visit.

This is one great Back Packers staff is very friendly. There is n clear blue pool cold beer at the bar and a fire every night to have a braai. Dont miss out on this.

Rooms are spacey and beds are comfy. Top bunk is very high up. Wi fi is not great, and as I was right near the front of the hostel I could hear a lot in the evening. Staff and other guests are friendly. Bathrooms are OK. Has a nice chilled vibe to it.

Friendly and helpful staff but Internet is not reliable at all even during slow season. Weak wifi signal strength in rooms makes speaking to friends and family frustrating.

Just like a hotel (without the room service) but at Backpackers prices. Staff are lovely and have a fantastic knowledge of the area so can be a really great help for planning any activities or your next step.

Great value for the money! We stayed in a private room, these are vwry spacious. Free parking is included. The hostess is great, recommended loads of thigs and was very nice! If youre on the hunt for a good place to stay and not looking for a luxury hotel you found the best place

Great, but the wifi was unusably slow. I reckon it was due to the internationals making video calls home.

Mosselbay backpAckergill judges people over the phone ,just got of the line with them and they told me Im not welcome because I am a contractor, so I dont suggest anybody that comes to mosselbay for work purposes to even phone them was told with attitude that I cant stay there if I work in mosselbay

We spent four nights here and felt very comfortable. Gives a daily braai, to which you can bring your own things and grill. The bar is also very nice and the seating is very suitable for spending time outside and meeting nice people.

Breakfast and meal very low in quantity and quality. Absence of bed sheets (directly the cotton blanket). Average cleanliness in the dormitory. We were disappointed.
