Found it closed. Still. After 3 years. Nobody can tell us why.
I was pleasantly surprised to be told at the gate I qualified for a free pensioner pass at 60.Drove around the whole reserve and saw lots of animals. Even a lion walking back from the feeding site (missed feeding by two hours).I cannot comment about facilities as I did not use them, but aside from the ladies having a siesta at the kiosk, everyone was very nice and accommodating.Roads a bit worn, but fully passable at a game viewing speed.Nice escape from the city within less than an hour from Joburg:
Nice for a drive. No restaurant, no kioskAnimals seen: Eland Giraffe, Warthog, Springbok, Black Wildebeest, Red Hartbeest, Impala, Oryx. Take your own food and use the bathroom at home before you visit. Chalets seem unused and the general look of the buildings are unkept. Lion camp was closed and overgrownBird Aviary is a mess and overgrown
THIS RESERVE WAS CLOSED WHEN WE GOT THERE, THEY STILL HAVE NOT UPDATED THERE INFORMATION. PLEASE DO SO SO NO OTHER PERSONS WAIST THEIR TIME AND PERTOL DRIVING THERE TO BE CONFRONTED WITH LOCKED GATES.
Don’t bother going to Krugersdorp game reserve, seems like the municipality has closed it, you cannot go in, hope they have not run it into the ground, they could not even be bothered to update their website or google to says it’s closed, what a waste of time
Just wish they could state they are closed. Drove all the way just t0 find out its closed since March 2020
Rather sad that their website States that they are open......different story when you get there. Why have they not updated their website? Hope the animals are being taken care of. Very sad.
I was so surprised, to see so much Wild Life and babies, baby Warthog, Zebra, Springbok, Giraffe. The toilet facilities were pretty bad but if you going to look at animals, healthy and happy animals and your fair share Giraffe, Zebra, Ostrich, Wildebees, Springbok, Lions, Warthog, and more which I dont know names. I will go again, it only cost R80 a person and R10 a car and awesome outing just outside of Johannesburg. My husband saw it as a mini Kruger Park.
The hall council took control of the game reserve. It did not go well
The place is still not open, drove there today in the morning just to get told at the gate that the place did still not open since lockdown started in end of March.
We did the horse riding and it was simply perfect. Wyt and Karen are so nice and told us so much information about the wildlife. It was an amazing experience and we will defenitly come back soon during our layover in Johannesburg.Best regards Dane, Marie and the Swiss crew.
Good experience
Not what it used to be. The place is completely falling apart with no refreshment kiosk in the park at all anymore. The fence at the lion enclosure is coming apart as well, with little to no maintenance being done there.A few years back the reserve boasted a variety of wildlife. Theres absolutely nothing left at all, save for a few bucks a lions.Advertising the park on the internet and on Google maps to have all the animals in the pictures is completely misleading.I had to turn around at the gate to search for an ATM in town, being 10kms away in order to withdraw money to enter the park as the dont even have card facilities anymore. Its sad to see a place that once used to be the pinnacle of the West Rand disappearing into the ashes. Those assigned to take care of the park is, to say the least, totally useless.
Drove past, did not visit.
Sadly, it is currently close for renovations and website do not inform the public.
Small reserve easy to get through as well as you get to see a lot of wild game in a short time
I am disappointed at the state of this reserve. It has huge potential; but alas we found ourselves with another park ran into the ground. There is no pub/ restaurant facilities. The swimming pools are in a state, and the animals are mostly missing. I remember better times. Speaking to the security guards, you get the sense that the management and maintenance of this park is distinctly missing. Such a pity.
This was awesome. Thanks to Majoro for making our drive exciting. He is such an experienced person who took his time to answer questions and engage with us. I would also like to thank that staff on duty who made every effort and made sure that we were slotted in. You are all wonderful people.
Took us an hour and a half to get here only to be told its closed. Update your website! ... pathetic!
It was my first visit to any South African game reserve. I found it neat and clean. There was a two days baby giraffe which really inspired me and my family. Strongly recommend to visit with families as people are very cooperative
They are still closing
Not many animals. Guide said best time to visit is the start of Spring when animals have babies. I believe there have been some killing of animals by poachers. But still nice to drive through the lion area. You will need a 4x4. Also close to city so you do need to drive to far for a safari experience.
Dont state you guys are open and when we get there its closed.
The place is run down. The reception and restaurant are closed. They are busy revamping the reception and restaurant. Make sure you take your own food and drinks. They do have a nice picnic area where you can bbq. There is a pool but its for residents only. They dont have a wide variety of animals. Its a small park. I was told that they only have 10 lions. The lion enclosure is overgrown with bushes. This makes it very difficult to see the lions. The best time to visit the enclosure is on a Sunday at 12h00. They feed the lions on a Sunday. Was it worth the visit? No it was not.
Nice
Nature Reserve has very good potential, there are fun activities for everyone with a few great lodges around to stay at.But however, the place needs help! They are struggling a lot!
I have been at the auction across the road. Interesting place......
Sad state , no shop or restaurant facillities , we were recomended rather not to enter , makes you wonder if care is taken with the animals ?
We had our previous year end functions there and its always great with a spacious area and Brazilian places
Huge potential, but badly managed. This has the potential of being a Jozi attraction if only the management would improve.
We had a very pleasant day put and the service was great.
Very disappointed. From what they advised on the Internet, compared to what they have. Entrance fee not the sane as well. Shop not open according to times advertised. Restaurant only serving a carvery when kids want a small meal. Rhino and lion park you will see us again.
Very quiet and very few animals, Food at the restaurant is well worth the wait.
Was dissapointed at the end of the tour. We were just by ourselves. They are off during holidays. It will be open but you have to be just by yourself. You cant even ask anyone.
The place use to be nice when i was growing up it needs help seriously too much potential
Great place just needs more attention
Best game reserve in Gauteng . The stuff is friendly. And the reserve is well managed
The reserve and accommodation has gone down within the last few years due to the change of management from the original owners that I knew as friends to the lazy and uninspiring municipal reign appon a once amazing and beautiful place with affordable entrance fees and elegant restaurants but now alas the place is just another old and dumbed down resort
Beautiful area but very neglected. Grass roofs of chalets disintegrating. Some have holes in. The entire stock of the kiosk was 5 small packets of chips and a few cold drinks. The caravan park appeared disused. Animal seen. 2 lions In a small confined area. 1 Eland, 1 wildebeest, hartebeest en rooibokke
Very nice, well maintaned, very clean and very friendly staff.
Dont know what has happened but the game reserve has drastically deteriorated. Will not be going back there in a hurry.
Nice short drive. OLD facilities
Very nice will visit again
Great little nature reserve on the West Rand
Not many animals, lodge no longer operating or was not operating on the month I went, restaurants closed, dirty restrooms, friendly staff at the gate/entrance.
Very nice getaway from the city!
Good customer service
Closed to the public. What a huge pitty.
Has gone down no upkeep
I regret going there_It used to one of my favourite_but now I dont even know wahat s going on there.I didnt see lions, theres no more giraffes that we used to see_very few zebras and other animals left_
