For the Equine lovers, this is a must see. Such amazing facilities. We went for a 8yr old horse enthusiast’s birthday party. Vaulting, pony rides for beginners, mechanical bull etc. really great place if horses are your thing.

A Riba tale: Beginner to WinnerMany years ago there was a little girl, Monét, who loved horses. Her mother saw the RIba Stables sign and beautiful horses grazing happily in a large paddock. Monét started with riding lessons at age 5 and 2 years later decided to take up vaulting as well.Spending many hours at Riba watching my daughter Monét ride and do vaulting, I decided to turn the sitting and waiting time into constructive riding time. As an adult rider at age 42 and never been on horseback I only wanted to do it as a hobby and for fun, never to know what the future beholds.And so I did lessons once a week for two years ,taking it very slowly and just enjoying the time being at the stables. Learning to walk ,trot and canter ,a bit of dressage and doing small jumps on a horse seemed enough at this stage. Getting better on a horse called Enchanted Fantasy,I realized that I want to ride more and practice what was taught in my lessons and so I started baiting Fantasy. Best move ever if one wants to go forward and gain more experience.Fantasy retired, still being spoilt with carrots and love every time I was at Riba. In March 2016 Errol Wucherpfennig introduced me to Live Wire, a beautiful German Warmblood and champion jumper with a kind, gentle nature. And so the fun of dressage and jumping continued. In 2017 I started doing dressage and training shows at Riba which awakened my competitive side in riding.In January 2018 Kayla Gertenbach was back from overseas where she competed and rode horses internationally. She brought her experience back home to SA and hosted a jumping clinic. That was my call to start fresh after a recovery and rest period of 4 months from knee and foot surgery. Of course once a horse rider nothing keeps you away from riding so I still did casual outrides with a knee brace and foot aids.At the clinic I met a wonderful girl,Sarah Lotter,full of spirit ,wanting to take up riding again after she stopped for many years. Myself and Sarah clicked immediately and started doing flatwork lessons together and took up jumping lessons with Kayla. We still did our training shows at Riba and then the big guns were out. In 2018 we did five training shows at Eaton farms and a training show and at Kyalami Park placing each time and getting beautiful rosettes. I started with 60/70cm at shows and ended the year with 70/80 cm jumping. After our last show at Eaton Farms in December we made a decision to start doing graded shows together.In January 2019 , Kayla Gertenbach Equestrian riding school opened and started the year once again with a back to basics jumping clinic. After the clinic we had a prize giving and I received the Rider of the year award. Well, what a surprise ,which also added some pressure to prove myself to myself even more. We all had to hand in our goals for the year of 2019.Myself and Sarah ( known as the Bostiks) registered with a club(KPC) ,with SA Showjumping and registered our horses.At age 49 I did my first graded show in February with Sarah. With Kayla’s assistance and guidance at this show it was easy. Then we entered the Nissan Easter Festival,a very big show with four events over a period of 3 days. I competed in the Adult 0,80m class. Out of the 4 events I was placed 5th for the competition round, 6th for the two phase round and I ended on a high by placing 2nd in the Champs round. Most important.... I felt like a winner every time because I had so much fun!!!I end my story with... you can never be too old or too young to take up horseriding. With commitment and discipline, trust and a bond with your horse you can achieve your goals whilst having the most fun in the world. Horses changed my world, making me humble and appreciate their kindness to give us so much pleasure.

Superb showjumping, dressage and vaulting coaches with international experience. Wonderful facilities for all disciplines. Barbie goes above and beyond to help every rider and pony/horse. Lessons for small children to competitive adults. I love the friendly, relaxed vibe. Lovely outrides on bridle paths. My riding has improved drastically since i have been at Riba Stables. Highly recommend it.

Barbie Gertenbach who teaches at Riba Stables is an amazing horse riding instructor. I really enjoy my show jumping lessons with Barbie. Barbie tailors her lessons to suit both the horse and rider and also knows how much to challenge the rider that is safe yet progressive. Barbie has a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience which shows through when she teaches and builds her lovely show jumping courses. Barbie has a remarkable and effective way of communicating where what seems to be problematic becomes simple.

Barbie is an amazing instructor and runs an incredible yard with lovely facilities. We have have stayed in their cottages many times when we travel up to Johannesburg with our horses. An amazing home away from home... Highly recommend to anyone!!

Place is great. Barbie is doing great work and she really puts all the effort in to make it a home for the horses. And you can see the improvements daily. Looking forward to seeing it in the next few months. Exciting stuff!

Riba Stables gives a solid and friendly platform for all equestrians young and old to excel in all disciplines. They are the only yard that offers vaulting as a equestrian discipline and the kids attending has reached international standards.The management has a good understanding of safety requirements during lessons with capable staff. This is a well run yard and has many happy horses and clients!

I had the great privilege of having a private lesson with Barbie yesterday on her wonderful horse Chet. I would recommend Riba Stables to anyone who enjoys horses and riding. Beautiful setting, friendly and welcoming staff and clients, stunning horses and above all a top notch riding instructor!I wish Id found Riba Stables years ago and cant wait for my next visit and lesson. I have been stabling at Riba stables for many many years and have always received exceptional coaching from Barbie and her staff. My horses are kept there and my kids ride there as well. Beautifully maintained yard with stunning cottages and amazing facilities!

Top class livery and training yard in all respects , qualified and even Springbok level international achieving coaches, beautiful kind and talented horses , love Rebel, Livewire & Jerry and the loveliest people that both ride and work there .I started out after an injury with low confidence and now Barbie has me competing in Dressage shows and improving weekly .Barbie further schools my 8 horses both for showjumping and dressage and I doubt we would be so successful in Endurance or showjumping without our Barbie bootcamp as we affectionately call our schooling.Love Riba!!!!

Best place for Vaulting in South Africa. If you want to improve your dressage or jumping skills the Gertenbachs know how to do it, too.
