Great Place for a quick getaway, picnic.Food was great. However,I made one Big Mistake.Entrusted them to setUp an outdoor Birthday decor.Sending a pic in advance giving them an idea of what was required did not Help.In the End the Decor was abt 6 Balloons @ R200! I couldve done far better for less.Tip: if you going to need party Decor for the day, rather Send in your Own team Day before or very Early on Day of event to set it Up.Otherwise u may just be left feeling punctured at end of it like we did.

This is a jewel destination in Gauteng very close to Johannesburg and Pretoria . You will see from my photos why I state that this lodge is exceptional .The fishing spot is the best for fishing with the kids or grandfatherYou can fish and be served with food and drink while fishingThere is a variety of fish in this part of the Magalies river. The fly fisherman will be rewarded early morning and late afternoonBass, carp - large sized grass carp and barbel have been caught. Its quite exciting to hook a bass on fly and the odd trout might surprise you upstream from the lodge . A large amount of trout was released by the hotel staff upstream a few years agoThe Lodge offer a large variety of activities . I can recommend the hiking trials , the views from the top of the mountain behind the lodge is excellentThe Spa is a treat for a tired fisherman or a spoil for the fisherman’s wife !The deck next to the waterfall is a treat a real treat with sound of the waterfall and the best crumbed mushrooms !Nature lovers come stay over for two nights it will fill you with new energy!

Hadnt been to the place in years - the venue is still beautiful with some cool added seating areas. It seemed service depended on where you sat and who was on duty. The breakfast when it finally arrived, was cold and just looked sad. I nibbled on mine and was disappointed further by the lack of taste. Further more, the breakfast sent each one of us in our levels of how much we ate straight to the bathroom sick.So no eating, just drinking ;P and enjoying the view from now on.

Unfortunately a let down. Went camping hoping for a peaceful relaxing weekend away. Needless to say, we only lasted one night. The lodge and campsite are surrounded by the Rustenburg Road Highway and the sound of the traffic drowns out any feeling of tranquility from the moment you arrive. What made it worse was the droning sound of chain saws and weedeaters on the other side of the river. The facilities require a lot of maintainance. Its a beautiful spot so its a pity because I know theres nothing they can do about the noise. Do wish we had been forewarned though.

Hornbill Lodge was quite and serene... Though the fishing spot is not really a fishing spot per say you can cast in and enjoy the tranquility.. 🎣 The camping grounds are small but the amenities provided are more than enough 🏕️ (electricity, water, braai facilities, sections for a bonfire and even a swing) Be warned that the ablution block is a fair distance from the camping grounds👣👣 but they are clean and modern. The swimming pool is large, perfect for a good swim🏊🏻‍♀️. A kiddy pool is located right next to the larger pool. A Trampoline is located near the swimming pool as well... Do yourself a favor and try the gourmet milkshake it may be expensive but it is well worth it.. The staff are super friendly, helpful and informative. The dogs on the property are the friendliest Ive seen.. Good with children and other dogs. If you looking for a quick relaxing getaway for the whole family this is the place to go..

Our motorcycle club visited Hornbill Lodge yesterday/ We liaised with the manager during the preceding week and were greeted by friendly staff who showed us to our table under the trees. It’s a superb spot, with the service excellent and the food good. All in all a highly recommended venue. We’ll definitely return. Well done Cobie and team!!👊👊

This place was such a let down. Food was extremely salty. They definitely mix soya with the beef for the burgers to make it more euw actually not sure what meat it was so scary. The steak was over loaded with salt as if it was old meat and they wanted to cover up the smell with salt. The hot chocolate was like water. The R130 milkshake said it had double Amarula lol I think the waiter drank it cause he smelt like alcohol and there was no Alcohol in the milkshakesThe milkshakes were extremely disappointing its like hello is this not supposed to be mixed with ice cream nee MNR it was milk. If I could give them a -5 I would. And would definitely not recommend sleeping there..

Nice little get-away spot just about an hour way from JHB, Bed and Breakfast lodge. Can be self catered or enjoy the local restaurants in the area. Would be ideal as a small retreat for a weekend or as a family group, friendly, helpfull and ocomodating staff. Local game drives and outdoor activities within a short 15 to 20 minutes of the lodge. Fly fishing venues are available in the area however the river on premises was not ideal for the avid fisherman at the time of our stay

Place is clean, rooms presentable, food fresh and tasty, Beatiful locally made beer, great menu. Easily accessibleBeware of hidden costs, whenever an item is offered ask for a menu. What is said and what are the actual costs are differ with different people. If you dont like dogs, it is not the place for you. Come with your own towels for swimming pool or youll have to pay. In summer, get yourself something for mosquitoes or prepare to pay.

I was very disappointed with the luxury accommodations. There where no luxury to be found and for the price we paid, we expected a lot more.At first glance the place looks fine, but then you get to notice the funky smell in some of the rooms and in the kitchen. The toilet water from the second floor, leaks into the kitchen which stinks and is very unsanitary. The bar stools are so flimsy, you can barely sit on them. It is very clear that nothing in this place ever gets replaced properly. The outside area where you can braai and sit around a table is also a mess. The wooden table and chairs are placed on very uneven ground and are also falling apart.Regarding the swimming pool area there are always very loud music being played and you cant have a decent quiet time there if you want to get away from the city.

A far cry from what is advertised on the website. Whilst it was the only restaurant available after 5pm on a Sunday, the food was okay, but the service quite bad. The usual pleasantries were there but the feeling was unwelcoming. No sanitisers available nor mask were worn and whilst commenting that at least social distancing was adhered, to I received a snarky rude comment to wear my mask, even though we at least came with one and removed it to enjoy our food. Seems like the reason for masks are lost to the folk there during a current pandemic. The owners made no attempt to greet or be pleasant, whilst we attempted to get some sort of hospitality. we felt as if they were doing us a favour being there. Nice views but will never go back to eat there and never to stay based on my experience.

Although the Lodge and restaurant at Hornbill Lodge look lovely, the same cannot be said about the camping section. Although scenic (shady trees, and along the shady river bank), it is far from the ablution block and quite close to a very noisy main road. The ablution block is shared with the restaurant. It is about a 200m walk from the camping section - you have to walk past the entrances of the 6 chalets to get to the ablution block. See photos of the toilet (which did not flush, and a door that did not lock). See photos of the shower (one nail on which to hang all your possessions, and a meagre curtain - very short. The shower was barely like warm.Only one single lane road leads from the main road to reception. I’m so glad that I did not encounter another vehicle towing a caravan along the way. Who would have had to reverse down the road so that the other could pass?To get to the campsite requires a tight bend. Not quite suitable for a long vehicle with a long caravan. The host and staff were helpful and friendly - but understandably so - I was the only camper there... making it a bit eerie.

Not impressed with the fact that I bought a 2 night stay with 2 free spa treatments each. We wanted to book when we arrived ,only to find out we only get a R200 discount per treatment. Only did one treatment each as it is too costly Think they need a serious upgrade and need to inform guests correctly when selling packages.

If you are looking for a family run, exceptional service and beautiful property this is the place to come to. The Staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming and helped me with cutlery which I had forgotten to pack on our camping trip. The camp site is beautiful, with a small river running past and green lush trees with plenty of birds, it is near a roadside so large trucks can be heard but were not a bother. There are dogs on the property, so for an animal lover I would recommend that you meet Hashtag the friendly staffie on the property, his presence was such a delight! The showers were clean with hot water readily available. A pool on site as well as a restaurant with a wide menu variety were nice additions. I will definitely stay here again in future.
