Been a regular here for the course of two years.Quality of shops has drastically dropped. Also quality of place has dropped.
Interesting place, good people and decent food. Its refreshing
Very nice place, liked that it wasnt jam packed and the music was there but not so loud you cant herr yourself think. The food is very good too..it has a really nice vibe...will definitely come back
Live Loved. A store where you can purchase grains, nuts, dry fruits, teas by mass. Not prepacked. Lovely store. The play area was also niceish.Other than that, nothing else that interested us.
If the features seem to be deteriorating. The restuarants are lovely but can be slow.
Its a bit more like 13 boxes now. Unfortunately when we were there most of the places where closed or empty. Its a great concept but I was a little disappointed at the lack of variety.
Great idea good food good prices . To few electric outlets so working (computer) but tricky but still enjoyable experience
Lame excuse to overcharge for renting literal storage boxes. Capitalism strikes again
Love this place! So quaint and reminiscent of Melville in its hay day...😎 Home to 2 important people - Melissa at P4 Infinity Salon and Palesa at Prim and Proper for Lashes and brows! They also have a variety of clothing, food and book stores. Definately worth a visit, safe and clean!
One of my favourite places in the whole world.Enjoy a good cup of coffee and a true Belgian Waffle at Yummyness whilst the kids play their hearts out in Castle Playground, or feast on the delicious freshly baked croissants of Bake Brothers, or whatever tickles your fancy at a number of wonderful unique shops.
Great concept! Heard so much about this place. But why are there so many shops open? Rental too high? Lack of advertising? Wheres your marketing manager? This place should be pumping!!!!
OKAY... I wouldn’t recommend someone to take a drive there but if you’re in the area you can pop in. It’s vintage, unique with a touch of hippie. The live artist and bubbles bar was a sweet touch in the centre of it all. There’s many boxes empty and those that have visitors are mostly restaurants. The concept is rare but the offerings limited. The outside area is lovely for kids however it’s also the smoking area.
If you enjoy good food and drinks its your place to be
Quiet most of the time however its a great spot if you the kind that wants a relaxing area to just window shop or even shop for items no one has and support local businesses i suggest you give 27boxes a try
Awesome little shops and restaurants! Must visit Live Loved!
Perfect place to go with friends. Love it all! Oh man. Like... ok ok. Maybe Im over hyping the place, but it is a great place to go out & eat. Plenty food. Many Shops . Lots of soviniers to get. Always a vibe!🤩🤩🤩
27 boxes had so much potential but just never stuck the landing. Intended to be a place that offerered unique and potentially handmade goods in a quirky setting it just didnt have a mix that drew shoppers. I dont think people went back after a first visit and so its ever quiet and stores close often. On our visit there was also a beggar at the front entrance which isnt pleasant and security couldnt be bothered to tell the guy to move on. We went to Denzel and Jo gallery because an artist I follow had a recent exhibition there. If it wasnt for that I wouldnt have ever felt like I was missing potentially exquisite fare by staying away. 27 boxes needs a relaunch.
Great spot for families and dates. We love Reserved Cafe, Yummyness and the No Name Nursery. Coffee is great at both spots! Reserved has some really good meal options too, and a good selection of teas.Give the other spots in Melville a break and support these incredible businesses.
Great concept of stacking steel containers on top of one another and creating a mini mall. Undercover parking off the street is good. Toilets are clean. Nice playground and outdoor area for kids. Even have a small nursery outside with plants for sale. Only problem is some shops are now occupied and remaining shops sell odds and ends nothing of real interest bar Microgram Records which has great selection of CDs DVDs and LPs. Bill Craig mens clothing will also be opening soon which has moved from main Road Melville.I see there they are do alterations upstairs looks like new stores. Hope the can put of life back into this place.
You must go to X & O patisserie for their CronutsDivine always 😜
Very nice place to get gifts and if you are into markets I suggest visiting on Sundays when most stalls and shops are open. Well maintained and clean space. Loved the go green concept with the greenery outside. Great security presence as well.
Nice place to get some food and let the kids play on the playground
Great place to brings kids for milkshake or coffee with friends. The atmosphere is chilled, laid back, no noise.
So clean and well maintained, just the toilet where dirty
Very unique place, beautiful small eateries
A great place for hanging out by yourself or friends. There are a lot of places to visit within the compound. They sometimes also offer poetry nights (well, performance arts, to be precise). There are vendors who also sell sick jewellery 🔥.Its definitely worth checking out if youre around the area.
Beautiful. Nice play ground for kids and free wifi incase you need to check something quickly.
Hi love the open space just to sit and chat without disturbances
Trendy with various shops and restaurants on offer - a place where you can take a stroll and enjoy time browsing the shops or have a cup of coffee.Shops offer unique products, like the baker with artisan bread or fashion. Theres a lovely outside play area for children while parents can sit down and enjoy something to eat or drink.Various restaurants offer something for various tastes - from grilled food, to upmarket coffee shops and more.Look out for the evening shopping events at 27 Boxes
Best coffee... interesting shops.... friendly people
What a lovely place just needs lots of marketing and maybe a few franchise stores..
An uniquely designed building with various small shops to browse. Enjoy a cronut and cuppachino in the sunny outdoor area!
A little empty in some places but some nice novelty and artful shops. Cafes and restaurants are very good.
The Countess is my favourite here
It was my first time going there. We actually took the kids for a book reading. I will be going back with friends to explore the place further
Sadly very quiet. Lovely setting. Nice and clean. Well managed.
Was very disappointed, 80%of the shops were closed and was very dirty. Will not be going there again
Great environment for good vibes with friends
Nice place with a modern vibe, place for children to play and enjoy. With a couple of good restaurants.
Chilled, relaxed alternative to malls
Interesting architecture like some residential homes in Japan. It has a lot of room to move around and their toilets are okay. Its right in the heart of Melville just behind the popular seventh street, so after shopping around for plants, jewellery, designer clothes and getting your hair and nails done, you can pop into one of the many restaurants and pubs on 7th. Its a chilled spot. Definitely worth exploring. Also, theres a nursery there and a mini park for kids to play while the adults shop and eat.
I love the concept that has been used to construct this place. There is a selection of stores, food and also there is a night Market.
What a lovely concept.. container shops & offices. So spacious and airy.
I am loving the concept.. a one stop for a huge variety of shops. Definitely want to visit on a market night and experience the full ambiance. As it was quiet on a Saturday afternoon. The Cronuts at XO Cronuts was very tasty
Nice atmosphere and the shops in the containers are individual shops, no chain stores. The project has a lot potential in my view, but needs more people to visit the location. Certain areas need maintenance and attention. You definitely feel the African wipe of entrepreneurship.
Sad to see that the place has very little stores open. Starting to have an abandoned feel. There are some cool restaurants on the out side with kids play area. Hope they get more stores in here
Some nice quaint goods.
The place is quite interesting because you get almost different types of young vibrant entrepreneurs pushing their trade w
I had quite the experience here, the place is quite cute and I just love the vibe of a mini market it gives. Expand your Taste horizon and get some of the best recipes here, you can feel that everything is done with Love. Everyone is friendly and I am definitely going to go back.
Got some hidden gems like cronuts, a great hair salon and artisan bread place
Better than it was a few years ago, there is a vibe starting.
A shopping centre using shipping containers- very cool. Free parking, Clean centre. Some great stores: IN STEREO- for great CDs/Vinyl/dvds(loads of bargains), a great indie gallery DENZIL&JOs. Great vintage shops, Local designer shops, Awesome spice shops. Regular fairs: Green, Vinyl fairs etc. This centre has so much potential. Hard hit by lockdowns it needs us to visit, support so it and its entrepreneurs can grow!!!
For now its now great cause of corona
Very cool atmosphere, lots of interesting stuff, very colourful, a wonderful african bohemian vibre 😍
Vibrant and a very chilled to be at
Child area is the number one feature of 27 boxes, the underground parking is top notch as well as security available at all entrances. A place you can relax and unwind with your family is 27 boxes the centre/ heart of Melville.
Responsible for providing residents and visitors an amazing public resource, 27Boxes offers a great venue to spend time at in awesome Melville.
Its a nice quiet space with interesting shops and handmade clothing, restaurants and book shops
A concept custom made shop boxes, sounds exciting ?so the place is ! Variety of stuff like art, food joints and micogram-the music shop.Micogram shifted recently from bright waters.
Its an ok shopping center, it has the potential of being better.
Great vibe. Visit every Tuesday for cappuccino @reservedcafe mmmmm and then on air on @brandlive.co.za for #WITEE. You must visit Bohemian Melville!!! 10* @27BoxesMelville rocks!
Interesting, many Entrepreneur shops, however needs some attention to get more people there.
Probably great in its hey day or in the non Festive season. Perfect car park for exploring the Melville area. Minor stores and a handful of eateries.
An amazing relaxed environment for the whole family. If you are looking for creative goods and services, this place is for you.
Diversity with alot of great surprises (sweet treats)
Its really cool looking Market, with an awesome set up
A must see for all creatives and art lovers out there! Great selection of local food
Exciting culture theme unfortunately Have Wings was closed !
Chilled out place to unwind and relax. Great vibe
We visited the Vegetarian and Vegan Fair at 27 Boxes. Although parking was a problem, we loved the vibe, the different stalls and diversity. There was a stall with the most delicious vegetarian curries and the nursery is a peaceful place to sit when you get tired.
Really enjoyed our visit to 27 Boxes, lots of small shops, great food and awesome atmosphere.
A lot of hip and trendy stores and a few good food spots. Can not justify the prices some of the stores charge though. At the end of the day its still just a glorified, artsy container yard. Not a high class mall.
27 Boxes is a unique experiences.. Avant garde and Bohemian in its use of space as well as the wares and personalities. The boxes are actually converted containers. It is located in the artistic Melville area of Johannesburg. It has to offer quaint cafes, clothes shops with a tale, natural organic health and beauty products, including CBD and hemp based. While there, look for the Think Green stall, for some amazing hand crafted beauty products.
Love the fact thats it totally in support of locally made items. Has a distinct uniqueness to it in comparison to other local markets .. however I wonder will it last long term . We asked around as we were much curious and most of the shop keepers reckon its rather quiet most days. I hope it lasts I quite like it .
It was easy to get to. Safe. Lovely unique eateries
Very nice and vibrant for young adults
Very neat and original setup with a variety of craft stores
Wonderful set up, underground parking, brilliant assortment of stores. Unique and worth checking out
Delicious lunch at Reserved. Outstanding service!
