Very quaint Mexican spot more street food than fine dining. Order your own drinks from the bar had a frozen margarita was amazing and had Californian nachos. Fresh delicious best nachos ever. Other dishes interesting good have to go back to work through menu. Service friendly too.

Come for the margs, stay for the churros. In order of best: churros, margs, fish tacos, nachos, vegan tacos and halloumi tacos

Baba Taco is a gem of Mexican cuisine. Reasonably priced, deliciously spicy Mexican dishes served by a friendly waiters makes this restaurant an experience not to be missed. Try a shot of authentic Mezcal Tequila. You might just be lucky enough to be served a shot with the maguey worm from the bottle!

Really great place, not too overwhelming with too many people, food is great, vibe is great and the ability to grab my own drink from the fridge made it even better! Really great first experience, will be back again

Excellent Mexican food restaurant! We tried burritos ( braised brisket), the pork belly taco and the pork belly Chile Verde with a nacho California starter. Portion size (to price) is small by South African standard but taste is amazing! Dont forget to try the churro for desert! It would also be great if the prices of drinks was made known upfront instead of when you get your bill!

I think the food at this place is really good. Great Mexican food. I just think the service is unnecessary bad, they waiters are quite slow. Just seems like this place doesnt really want to be a thriving business.

Baha Taco Norwood. Great tacos - pork belly and crayfish! Yum! Wonderful atmosphere.However, we witnessed a man at the table next to us VOMIT INTO HIS WINE GLASS because he was so drunk!! When we left he was in his car, ignition on (intending to drive) and he had passed out behind the wheel. This begs the question - should restaurants share responsibility when people get killed on the roads due to drunk drivers, when they continue serving them booze when they are visibly finished. After the vomiting incident the owners then joined their table for more shots - while the vomiter in question was falling asleep at the table. Witnessing stuff like this makes me wish the booze ban would come back - then at least we would be safe on the roads... 😡😡😡

A good place for a chilled laid back dinner. We had tacos and nachos which were amazing. The waiter suggested a sangria and that was one of the best one I have had. Will definitely come again.

This place doesn’t scream ‘Mexican good’ but believe me, they make great Mexican cuisine here.I had some nachos & they were as good as, or even better than most places in the world including texmex restaurants in Texas themselves.Prices are also very reasonable. Give them a try, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

A huge benefit of working just off Grant Avenue is all the restaurants I get to try. Baha Taco had all of the delicious Mexican flavours in one place. Id suggest ordering a few and sampling them as a group of friends. The portions are just enough so if you want your fill youll need to order more than one portion. Its self service so youll need to order your food and drinks at the counter and it will be brought to you. The best taco I have had, EVER. Will definitely be going back for more.Id highly recommend this place.

Delicious, freshly pressed tortillas and generously filled tacos! The jalapeño poppers are fun too: some are super spicy, and others are just mild. Would definitely recommend.

We just had drinks, but service was friendly. Beautiful wood furnishings and real rustic and homely vibe. Real wood fired stove, kitchen looks legit Mexican. Owners have a restaurant in Mexico itself so thats good. Will definitely come back and try the food.

A couple of years ago I ate a beer-battered fish taco that left a delicious lasting impression. Tonight I went back to this taco place - which has since moved to a bigger place - and was delighted to have another go at their tacos. I sit here not able to eat another bite but am counting the days till I can go back.

I liked the churros. And I liked the potatoes in the quesadilla and the salsa and tortilla chips. I liked the fish tacos. The ostrich tracks were so spicy and smoky and delicious. The bear batter fried fish was super soft and flavorful.

After checking out the Good Food and Wine Show as well as the Halaal Goods Market i needed food. YES more food as we just nibbled on items through the day. We decided to stop in Norwood as it was on the way home.Baha Taco has been on our list as we love Mexican food, but sadly it didnt impress as much as Id hoped.I did love the rustic feel to it and the decor. It gives me more of a Pub feel and to chill with friends rather than an eatery. I ordered the Pulled Pork Soft Shell Taco, and my sis and friend both ordered the Battered Hake Taco. The Pork was tender and i loved the taste of it on its own. However combined with the rest of the toppings it lacked flavour it needed salt and maybe some lemon squeezed over. Same goes for the Fish Taco. The Fish itself was crispy and tasty but the rest had no flavour. We didnt try anything else on the menu.So it was a slight miss for all of us and the service was ok.

Might be the best and most authentic Mexican food in all of Johannesburg. I come from the US and have tried everywhere in the city, and while a Perron has food food I wouldnt call it Mexican food. But this hit the mark. Good margaritas, good chips and guacamole, awesome nachos, nice quesadillas, and solid tacos. And the taste is right. Go and enjoy!

Good service. Portions rather small

Yum is all I can say, deeelicious food, so tasty and fresh and their margarita was out of this world, we took our time to enjoy our food and the restaurant has a nice little buzz! Their chimichanga with banana and flan was so yummy! The only thing I could recommend is table service, placing your order at the counter doesnt really work well and since there arent many tables two or three waitresses could handle it competently. What a lovely refreshing experience. We will be back with our friends in tow!

Been going to Baha Taco for a few years now and i havent been disapointed once. All these people complaining about ordering at the counter and getting your own drinks do not realize that it is a street food inspired restaurant. The quality of the food is out of this world and portions are decent. Always an awesome experience.

Nice atmosphere but we waited almost an hour for our meals and decided to take it home. Customer service is not great. Food flavor was okay but hoped for a more authentic Mexican taste.

The place was small and informal with a big counter like you would expect in a shop, which it was to some extent. Interesting menu with an array of small dishes. I enjoyed the crumbed and fried jalapeno as a snack. Next door was a pub where one could sit or order drinks to be consumed in the restaurant. We brought our own wine for which we were not charged corkage. Prices were very reasonable.

The food is delicious! Lovely vibe. Its a bit different in that you have to order your drinks and your food inside and only your food is delivered to your table, but lovely venue- friendly staff and overall awesome experience.

Services was great, food yummy and well priced and the dessert perfection. I read all the reviews so I didnt have high hope but it was out of this world spectacularly better than marble and so fresh and delicious. Definitely our go to spot for a quick snack even though its 30minutes from where I live lol.

Its just okay. The food is tasty but the portions are tiny! The set up his not the norm. No menus at the tables just a big chalk board inside. Stand in a que to order food and then help yourself to drinks? Sort of like burger king I guess but then are you still expected to tip your waiter? Not a nice area...

A regularLiving close by so often visit or take away.. Ingredients always fresh which is the winner for me.. I love the craft beers and the whole design of the place the owner has got it spot on.. Portions not the biggest as one might expect with Mexican but being fresh I understand.. Also ordering a few plates makes it more interesting vs one starter n one main..

Natchos are delicious delicious delicious ... You can taste they are made from scratch... All round relaxed atmosphere, easy going, good food (quesadillas, tacos). Old school vibe, order at the counter,and dont be in a rush, sometimes its super quick and sometimes its a little slower, but that is all part the vibe, and its charm.. food made with care is always worth waiting for.

Very disappointing.. flies all over our table.. shocking service.. we were a large group.. no one greeted us when we arrived.. had to search for the owner to come and explain the menu to us.. had to fetch own drinks.. .. just no attention to detail

My husband got the vegan taco with falafel balls (incredible) and I had the halloumi taco (also delicious) they don’t sell coke products however they have other delicious drink options. They also have a vegan ice cream which blew my expectations!

I enjoyed the atmosphere, although the smell of cigarette smoke wafted inside a little too often. The food wasnt too bad. I ordered the braised beef brisket quesadilla, but honestly, didnt taste any meat. If I go again, Ill definitely order something else.

A favourite spot for locals and tourists. Menu changes regularly, with new options and old favourites providing great variety. Catering for vegetarians and meat lovers alike. Amazing cocktails!

The food is always good with fresh ingredients and made painstakingly on site. Vegan options are limited. I know the quesadilla implies cheese but a black bean quesadilla with some coconut cream mixed with lemon juice (vegan sour cream) on the side might be a good addition and/or guacamole.

As an American adjacent to Mexico, I miss REAL Mexican food in Joburg. I traveled back to the US and asked a friend to take me to the best Mexican place in his city. It really wasnt as good as Baha Taco. This is a great restaurant.

Real authentic Mexican food made onsite from fresh in a more quiet part of Grant Ave in Norwood. Super friendly service and great great cocktails. Pricing is spot on for the quality of food you are getting. What a place! I think its a new regular spot for me.
