Service from Dr Visser the psychiatrist is extremely poor. Long wait to see him and then his receptionist calls me to tell me the doctor is ready then I sit wait even longer. Never experienced such shoddy treatment from anyone at Akeso that include all staff.

The psychiatrists and most of the courses there are and have helped me figure out what I have and how to manage it.There are a few downsides though, like some of the nurses were really harsh and verbally mean towards the patients at times, and I wont sugarcoat the fact that the food there is terrible for the most part (sometimes they surprise you). And I really wish they would wash and dry their dishes properly (sometimes the dishes reek of old used cloths which bothered me a lot).Although other than that, I am glad I went to Akeso, because it definitely helped.

Wow.... Im so glad I came here. I would have committed suicide if I didnt come here. Their services are great.I was seen by Nonhlanhla Mngomezulu as my Psychologist and Dr Khomotso Matjila as my Psychiatrist, Mr Muluma as my Social Worker. The nurses were wonderful.Their intense group sessions given by OTs and psychologist running from 9am to 5pm daily were amazing. Even though I didnt have the energy to attend all of them sometimes but they were very helpful.I would come back here at any time in my life and would definitely refer anyone battling with mental health here. It really helped me a lot. Im going back home knowing I have a great medical team thats not only about money but also giving it their all to make me overcome whatever I am going through.Their cleaning staff was amazing as well.I wish they could also run some sessions for their staff members, especially cleaners, kitchen staff and mostly their administrative staff staff coz you can see the burnout in their eyes. They work crazy hours.

Probably one of the worst Akeso clinics in the country… I’ve been to akeso-clinic in Pretoria, it has much better service, much better facilities and much better trained staff - to handle difficult situations, when a patient is freaking out they just sedate them by injection. There much better ways to deal with someone trigger than by sedating them. Not to mention my watch and rings were stolen and they did nothing about it. The psychiatrists there are terrible and just keep upping your medication, regardless of the side affects - they only work there because their private practices had failed. The nurses are extremely bias, rude and very unprofessional. This is coming from someone who’s been in and out of psychiatric facilities. I would not recommend you stay here at all! The doctors gossip about the patients, breaking confidentiality with other members of the Akeso staff. The food is the same every day and literally inedible after you’ve eaten it for a few days. The other reviews I’ve seen here are from people who don’t attend the classes and mess around with the other patients, the rules are unbearable (No Phones!) and this entire clinic is a joke, with the worst rated psychiatrists in the country. I’d definitely recommend going to a different Akeso for the amount you pay.

Definitely one of the worst experiences of my life! Although the hospital has rules, they are only implemented to a few as a show of strength from certain OTs and nursing staff. Orientation is a farce and consists of rules being read, the daily functioning of the clinic is not explained. Asking for a smoke free zone to sit in results in victimisation from staff as smoking occurs on ever balcony and the stench of cigarette smoke permiates the common rooms. These rooms are full of under 25s hogging the TV channels and requesting a quiet place to watch TV resulted in further victimisation. Requesting a lacto-vegetarian diet was unheard of and dishing up fish, then flipping it off the plate, followed by putting chicken on the plate, or being told that lacto vegetarians eat eggs, was deemed normal as voicing a concern simply escalated the victimisation. Fellow patients doing each others hair, manicures and pedicures for payment was the norm in the rooms and it felt like a varsity hostel rather than a psychiatric clinic. You wither fitted in with the vibe or made alternate arrangements. I came out more stressed than when I went in. Definately a total waste of time.
