Reviews are not permanent, something has changed in the registration office. they are beginning to be responsive and on course. As for call centre, there is still a lot to be desired.

Not ECSA waiting our airtime.... After holding for long to get through, they pick up the call and keep quiet then hang up.This is disheartening for an organization who claims to be about professional registration but unprofessional themselves. Just milking peoples fees. Ombudsman is my next stop as you definitely cannot be taking fees for service your not providing. Thats fraud.

All I wanted was an invoice so I can pay for my registration. Three weeks later, countless no. of calls to the call centre (always high call volume), left voicemails with no one even bothered to return my calls, sent a number emails and still I do not have an invoice so I can pay them to register. Utterly useless organisation!!

Terrible service. Requests just go completely unanswered. To think people have to pay to be a member of this organization who cannot respond to simple requests for invoices and bank details. Never mind that the telephone never gets answered.

I don’t even know why we have to pay so much for membership. ECSA is not different from the home affairs when it comes to answering phone calls or replying to emails.

Really impressed by how quick the registration process was during the national lockdown. I submitted in June and was scheduled for my Professional Review early August. The whole process took around 3months to complete.(including an extension request due to dates clashing with the professional review)

UPDATE as at 27 March 2021: 4 months gone since I placed a 5-star PRE-REVIEW, and submitted a report to ECSA. The report shows a retaining boundary wall (built by my neighbour on his property) in part over a footing of 80mm thickness and, in other sections, built on no footing AT ALL! Inexplicably, this wall was certified by an ECSA member as in conformance with standards. The minimum requirement for the depth of foundations for ANY retaining wall is 150mm according to SANS regulations.True to the form of many reviews here, there has not been a word out of ECSA. Without doubt, its failure to reply AT ALL entrenches the perception that the Council is a lame duck. This type of could care less attitude cheapens the Councils brand as a guarantor of standards in an industry where a decline in accountability leads to loss of life.My rating, as at today being 27 March 2021, is accordingly revised to the obligatory 1 star. My original text below:On 4 November 2021, I wrote: THIS IS A PRE - REVIEW!!! So dont be misled by the 5 stars - You have to select the stars to review and I could not very well give less than 5 until I had put ECSA to the test. Its 4 November 2020, and I am about to make a report to ECSA about what may be unethical conduct by its member - a Civil Engineer. I will submit photos to the Council (ECSA) with a report explaining my concern over a job (poorly-built boundary wall) that the Member certifies as conforming to the standards. As owner of the neighbouring property, I am an interested and affected party. But since I am not his client, the Member declines to engage me on the matter. I accept this although it would have been by far in his best interest to avoid being impolite when I raised the matter with him.Strangely, the Member declined to take me up on my offer to him to view the structure from my side - being an offer made BEFORE he signed the work off.Having read the frankly uninspiring reviews here, I am not encouraged. NOT EVEN 2 FULL STARS - I FOUND HERE AN AVERAGE OF 1.9 STARS!. Maybe my pre-review might tip them into fully 2 stars. Nonetheless, let me take an optimistic approach. So I hope that I can come back here in a few days and post a REAL 5-star review on the efficiency of the ECSA.

ECSA has really improved over the last few years. The addition of the call center is great. Speed of processing applications is really fast. They could improve with regard to communication of progress though.

Handed in my application forms in person - no major issues. Security guard at the gate is very helpful - assisted with directions to the nearest Postnet. Front desk is very busy with constant phone calls but I managed to get everything done and submitted within 20 minutes. Secure parking and in a relatively quiet area.

If I can only give 0I’m trying to register with ECSA for over 3 yearsI called thousands times, if I’m lucky and they answer the phone the person they refer me to doesn’t answer the call and the worse is that they don’t answer emails. The last feedback I got from them it was on 31/05/2018.It’s disgraceful for a body that it represents the South African professionalsNothing is professional about This engineering council that it’s meant to manage professionals

It is sad that this is the Professional Body engineers have to deal with.I called all available numbers (HO and Cape town branch) including the call centre two days in a row . No one answers. I visited the ECSA cape town branch the 23rd March before lockdown. There was no one there. I just gave up. I dont understand how ECSA operates as a professional body.

Review №26

Every year you try your best to limit the amount of time you have to deal with ECSA because of the sheer inability to make contact with them. Nobody answers the phones. ANY of the phones. You phone until you are blue in the face and you get stone walled by the voice prompter.Emails go unanswered/unacknowledged for months on end.The only thing they are good at is sending the invoices for annual subscriptions and subsequent follow-ups for non-payment.Heaven forbid you should ask for a statement from them for proof of payment!THERE IS NOT A SINGLE THING THAT IS PROFESSIONAL ABOUT THE BODY THAT IS MEANT TO MANAGE THE ENGINEERING PROFESSION IN SOUTH AFRICA.

I have not communicated with ECSA for more than two years and I am shocked to discover how far down has the service at this professional body has run down.My problem started when I could not log into my account and sent an e-mail to ECSA on 24/04/19 for resolution of my problem. Ndivhuho Muofhe responded on the same day requesting mu ID number which I immediately emailed to him.By the 30th April my login problem had not bee resolved and I brought this to Ndivhuhos attention by e-mail. I followed up with a call about four days later only to be told that I had been erroneously deregistered but he promised that the relevant department would resolve the issue. On 07/05/19 I received an invoice No. INV116960 from Siphumelele Maseko. I returned an email requesting her to reflect my VAT number and to return the invoice for payment. Having not received her response by 14/05/19 I sent her a reminder.Today, having not received the edited invoice I phoned her only to be informed by a recorded voice mail that she is not available. I tried to contact the reception three times but the phone rang until it timed out and disconnected with no one picking it up.I am very frustrated and disappointed right now and I appeal for urgent assistance. We dont deserve such heartless treatment from our professional body and I now doubt if our registration works for us.

I used the ECSA Portal (invite and automated code send by ECSA) to use the new online CPD system. After Updating some of my personnel detail I found my invoice address very strange. Looking at my CPD history I can clearly see that the CPD detail loaded must be of an other person (different Engineering dissipline too). Since ECSAs original website crashed it has been an uphill battle to sort out these CPD etc. Hope I would get better success by phone?
