The staff is very attentive and provides great professional and friendly service but not in your face. Elevators were quick. The hotel has gorgeous landscaping and beautiful interior spaces. Excellent room service during the recent lockdown and excellent restaurant following lockdown. The best part for me was the room- quiet and the the pillows! I was so obsessed with the pillows! I had great all night sleeps; they were so comfy that I bought one for my own home. It’s one of my best souvenirs from Africa - among others. Thank you fora wonderful stay. I’ve stayed here before and it’s just perfect.

Amazing place to spend the night in. Great rooms, comfortable bed linen, pillows and environment. The last floor is equiped with a great gym with a view to the airport. The pool is lovely and warm. I wish I would sleep here each time Im on Transit.Staff are friendly. I remember once forgetting my perfume in the room and got it back almost a month later on a following trip.I want to be back here.

I visited the InterContinental Hotel at OR Tambo Airport (Johannesburg) 21 October 2021 only briefly (2 hours) and I had a coffee and a juice whilst waiting for the results of a rapid antigen test that are administered in the InterContinental Hotel.However, the service was poor and disorganised, the bar area where I sat was by no means full yet the staff took 15 minutes to get me a coffee and cranberry juice (not squeezed). One young man, a supervisor went from table to table confirming the various orders from the respective patrons.The hotel was not to the standards that I have come to expect from the InterContinental Hotel (IHG Group of which I am a Platinum Ambassador). I was disappointed.

What a farce. We arrived at 20.05 to be told that we could only order room service as the kitchen closed. Five minutes. Really?But, we could have room service - and they could serve it in the foyer.The restaurant was filled with people eating - but we were banished to the foyer. Sitting right next to the serving station where the foyer staff were talking rather loudly.Then, the food. What a fiasco.A bulger wheat salad that was a mush of couscous, and a burger that arrived with a sesame seed bun (when we specifically said no seeds).I have no words, other than deeply disappointed

Wonderful place to stay, after flying in. Stayed 2 nights, had room service for dinner. The cusine was excellent. Enjoyed the food at the restaurant for breakfast. Enjoyed the pool, and spa facilities. We both had massages my wife & l, plus manicures, and pedicures.

Katlego the night receptionist was so unprofessional and terrible hospitality. We pre booked 3 rooms,was so expensive and took over an hour to check in. Eventually done and at 1015pm he sais the kitchen is closed n theres no room service. We missed our connecting flight and were very tired already n poor service was just the worst part of it all.

Everything was top notch. On arrival I was upgraded to a suite and after a long international flight could not have a better experience. I would highly recommend this hotel!

The Intercontinental Hotel is about as nice as it gets. The hotel itself and its amenities were both grand. If you dont take advantage of the pool/gym/spa on the top floor, youre missing out!

Quiet, rooms are well-furnished, and great service. The sanitizing policy is very robust during pandemic. They even sanitize the front desk after interaction with each guest. No effort spared.

Had an executive room on the 3rd floor facing the airport parking. While the other buildings are close it’s one of the better facing to get. Room service food is very good in both the quality of ingredients and the way it’s prepared. Great hotel to spend a couple of nights.

I always love to stay for a night at the Intercontinental when I have a next day connection out of OR Tambo.The rooms are lovely and big enough and properly soundproofed, the beds are very comfortable, the on-site restaurant is great (if you don’t want to splurge for hotel restaurant food, the convenience stores of the airport terminal are just two minutes walk away), and the staff are always smiling, friendly, and helpful.

The Interconti provided a 100% great experience during these Corona times. Weeks prior to our arrival the front office / reservation staff was utterly friendly and responsive to our numerous prior requests, via the phone and/or via email.When we felt that we were overstretching their patience, they were kind, quick, and helpful in their responses, and demeanour. We experienced the same qualities at our arrival, during our stay, and on the day of departure. There was truly nothing that would have bothered us. It was a sound experience, and we are looking forward to our next stay.Well done to the whole team. And without taking away from the whole team, both Sharon and Mrs. Makkan from the front office staff must be singled out in giving praise...particularly as concerns the pre-arrival advice. A bit discomfort due to the COVID restrictions. The rooms were excellent, big bathroom and nice towels and shower hose. Water pressure was medium (not enough to experience the shower massage). Took 5 minutes for the hot water to reach the shower (I believe it was a waste of water).Room service was good... to realize that we have to order all the items (butter, the sugar/sweetener).The cheese plate and the charcuterie plate were a bit poor in quantity.The food quality was excellent.

Nice hotel but horrible to get to a parking area without going in circles 5 times. Wish the attendant couldve been more helpful or atleast have predrawn / put together instructions instead of just gesturing in a general direction. My advice: go atleast an hour before so you can find the parking area...

Was there for breakfast. The food was nice and the coffee too. Had some Heineken 0.0 alcohol free beers. Nasty surprise was the price! At R60 per 340ml bottle the markup on alcohol free beer is 600%! I know the hospitality industry is suffering but that is no excuse fir robbery! I wasnt even kissed before being screwed! Beware!

Im not one for writing reviews but I believe my stay at InterContinental Johannesburg deserves this exception! I stayed between 2nd - 4th May and it was exceptional. I was met with genuine hospitality at every touchpoint and the hotel also had covid-19 preventive measures in place to make us feel safe throughout our stay I mean they even went to the extent of putting their ironing board into a safety cover with seals on. The food was beyond expectations as well, delightful and wholesome! Upon checkout, Beauty ensured that everything was in order and actively asked for feedback on what we enjoyed and what can be improved. I will definitely be looking forward to my next stay at InterContinental Johannesburg O.R.Tambo Airport!

Wonderful hotel with very friendly staff. In view of the current health crisis, they have taken every step possible to ensure the health and safety of themselves as well as their guests. Food was generally flavourful, whilst services when called were often prompt. Room was spacious, with a large TV console and a Nespresso machine was also on hand.

Hotel with nice room and conveniently located near the airport but beef rib eye from room service was such a let down. Asked for medium rare, gotten a medium with some part medium well. Steak was dry & chewy.

The staff at the hotel are exceptional from start to finish. Fantastic experience from check in to check out. We look forward to returning.

Such an incredible hotel, I had such a pleasant stay overnight while I was waiting for my flight the next morning. I stayed in November during the pandemic and the staff was incredibly professional and on top of the necessary mitigation procedures. I wasnt allowed to enter the building without applying hand sanitizer and getting my temperature taken. After signing in with my name, purpose of visit and my current temperature, I was kindly led to the check-in desk. The staff was so incredibly friendly from the beginning until the end of my stay. They made me feel very comfortable and safe, as I was a single woman traveling alone. When my key didnt work, they chaperoned me to my room to ensure I got in, and they gave me a wake up call for breakfast in the morning. Breakfast was very delicious and filling! They offer many options on a set menu, including a vegan dish with lots of different components. The rooms are incredible - the bed is soo comfortable and the bathroom has a shower and bath! I cant recommend this hotel enough, especially if you have a long layover. Talk to the staff too, theyre all SO nice!

Great airport hotel a 5 min walk from the terminal. I needed a room due to a missed evening connection. Check in was seamless and I was warmly welcomed and made to feel comfortable. Everything was explained about the room and hotel beautifully and I was afforded a late check out on request. The bed was super comfortable and I felt safe being a solo female traveller. The room and bathroom were a bit dated but comfortable non the less. I skipped breakfast and had lunch in the hotel lobby. Service was lovely. Thank you.

As South Africa went into lockdown we found ourselves stranded for our onward journey. We immediately sought refuge at the Intercontinental hotel at the Johannesburg airport. We ended up staying just over 2xweeks and are we so grateful for finding such an outstanding hotel. The staff and management really stepped up to allow our long stay an enjoyable experience. We created activities, the management found us room and space to carry them out. The dining staff and chef catered for all our varied tastes and more. Food was outstanding as was the housekeeping and staff too. Our stay here during the Covid-19 lockdown will be a memory of a lifetime.Thank you so much for helping us through this difficult time.

From the moment we walked through the doors, we were greeted with smiles and immediate attention for assistance so I knew straight away that our stay had started on the right foot. Reception was very efficient in checking us in confirming everything. We entered our spotless , spacious room exhausted from our flight and lay on the bed which was soft just like a perfect cloud. We settled and decided to have dinner in the restaurant. The ambience and lighting was so relaxing. The food menu had enough choices to satisfy the fussiest of people. We really enjoyed dinner and then went to retire for the night. Jumped into our comfortable bed and slept unbelievably considering the time difference (we flew from Australia). We woke up the next morning regretting that we had to leave as it was so comfortable and clean. Oh! Also reception phoned us on point as we asked for a wake up call and right on time, the friendly staff called. We then went to the dining room for breakfast and truly we have travelled abroad a fair bit and the buffet selection was the best that I have experienced. Again greeted by friendly and enthusiastic staff. Check out was just as efficient

If your looking for a hotel close to the terminal there is nothing better. Located just over the road from the Arrivals area. The hotel is of a great modern standard with rooms being well equipped and very quiet. A great hotel for a business traveller.

Very close to Arrival Hall ar OR Tambo Intl Airport. Walking distance of about 10 mins.In times of Covid-19, the hotel has stepped up with disinfection and hygiene practises. Staff was seen to ensure compliance from guests and dos and donts were clearly communicated during check in.

An overnight, pre-flight stay at this hotel was a very enjoyable experience. Every single member of staff that we encountered was efficient, courteous, pleasant and helpful. We ate dinner and breakfast in the Quills Restaurant. Both meals were well presented and served. The food quality was excellent, portions generous. Check-in and out were accomplished speedily and we were able to collect our bags later in the day for a midnight flight. The location of this hotel is very convenient being within a short walking distance of airport and hire car facilities. Highly recommended.

As I mentioned in my title, I stayed at intercontinental OR TOMBO apt during the epidemic. So I couldn’t have the chance to go out from the hotel and explore the city. Instead I stayed at the hotel during my stay. It’s just a walk from the airport. So it’s a very convenient hotel for transit passengers. Food was excellent. Rooms were tidy and clean. Overall very homely feeling hotel.

I only stayed a day- not overnight- as my flight was midnight. This hotel is a 5min walk from the terminals. Check-in was seamless with extraordinarily friendly/helpful staff. My room was exceptionally cleaned and luxurious. They do turn-downs which most hotels do not offer anymore and it is these simple things (chocolate on your bed, extra bottled water etc.)that make the difference. Nespresso machine in my room- thank God. The pillows I requested were on my bed. Upon check-out it started raining and I was promptly given an umbrella and walked all the way to the terminals. The rest of the world needs to take note as I have been fortunate to live in some pretty expensive hotels for business and leisure and this one at OR Tambo is seriously one of my faves - they do it right without pretence. My only complaint is that the USB port to charge my phone did not work but there were plenty of electrical sockets to use. Also since my room was booked with breakfast and I could not have any due to flight, a meal replacement voucher for lunch or dinner would have been appreciated considering the price of the room.

If youve got to be locked down for 15 days in Johannesburg, there is NO better place. 5 stars for being a great hotel and a further 5 stars (10 in total!) for everything the team did to make our enforced stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. I have stayed at the IC-Jo’burg many times coming and going from Africa to the US. I used the last of my saved IHG rewards points to book this last stay and it dawned on me how special this place is. A welcomed respite and the Gold standard in international travel, IC hotels are always great. But the staff here always remember my name and welcome me with it. It had even been more than a year since I stayed last and the doormen remembered me. The desk staff were new. But it was still a great experience. Use the spa, take time for the amazing pool with great views, sample the wine and amazing food. This hotel is a gem. An ethically cultivated and well-polished gem indeed

Our stay at the IC JNB airport was very short, but very impactful on our honeymoon. The staff (particularly the front desk staff) went above and beyond to give my wife and I a special experience, and we are very grateful. Beautiful room, lovely honeymoon gift, introduced us to the guest services manager... really cant say enough good things about the property. Would highly recommend anyone flying through JNB to stay here. Special shoutout to Cello, our waiter in the restaurant for being so wonderful. Also, if youre an AV geek like me, there is great plane-spotting at the pool or the gym on the top floor. Fun bonus!

Well equipped room, with some room amenities removed due to the COVID19 pandemic.Staff seem to take cleanliness seriously, when interacting with guests. However, when not obvious, staff were seen intermingling and improperly wearing their masks and PPE.Good airport hotel and convenient.

I had to push my bags on the trolley myself. There was no one to assist me. My room and bathroom had no utilities as I always get at an InterContinental hotel. The facilities were not operational. I did not experience any InterContinental comforts. I would rather stay in a three star hotel as there was no difference.

The hotel is very nice and comfortable. Rooms are nice and spacious. Bathrooms are exceptional. We were allowed downstairs until one of the managers got upset and then we were told we had to remain in our rooms while some guests were free to roam around with no restrictions. I was charged for multiple minibar refreshments that I didnt have and the person responsible wasnt willing to take the charges off the invoice

I thoroughly enjoyed the meal provided by the hotel as the qualit was wonderful. Beein a Srilankan i enjoy food with alot of flavor and i have to say these were the best meals iv had at a reputed hotel. Please keep it up. Also the staff was very helpful and nice. Much appreciated

I love this hotel and I have stayed here many times. Its only seconds walk from the terminal and a heaven of calm. Excellent sleep experience.Restaurant very good, The outside patio is in my opinion the best part of the hotel, The service here is not the best as staff tend to be inside in the restaurant, I have noticed this on several occasions. This is bad as this is such a nice place.However, overall this is a premium hotel for a traveller lookling for a rest between flights.

The rooms are very good but the restaurant is a disgraceI was given uncooked potatoes the steak was dead no olive oil no balsamic for the Greek salad.!When i completed i was told by the lady at the restaurant on phone that is how they serve it.The restaurant needs attention for the level of the rooms they have.My opinion

Fantastic hotel so close to the airport you can walk there with your luggage cart. The staff are amazing, really friendly and helpful. We stayed one night before flying to a safari lodge. We arrived early and they upgraded the room so we could go to our room straight away at 9am. How many hotels do that for you! Food was excellent, I will always stay there when I go back to Johannesburg

Being just over the road, a very short stroll, from the Arrivals area, this hotel is ideally located for any traveller. The food and service, even in these difficult Covid times, were very good. Overall a very nice Intercontinental Hotel with lovely staff.

The structure of the hotel is very good. The room is excellent, one of the best I have ever been to. the bed and bath are spotless. The restaurant was the hotels weak point, although the dish took 1 hour (and the restaurant was empty, all this time should not have happened). but the overall experience was great, the decor, the breakfast and the quality of the room made a difference

My travel agent recommended this hotel for our flights in and out of Joburg before safaris. It was an excellent experience.Hotel is right across from the airport, and you can bring your luggage trolley to the front door!Staff is welcoming, helpful, and professional. Food and beverage are very good, especially for an airport hotel.Room was quiet; didnt hear a plane at all, in spite of airport proximity.Plenty of hot water, and very comfy bed.Only wish was that there was a sheet and light blanket instead of heavy duvet for those of us who sleep hot.Wouldnt stay anywhere else if you have to fly in and out of Joburg.

I stayed at this hotel just about 1 year ago in September 2019 but still have memories of the marvelous service they provided. I previously wrote a review but on another site and wanted to be sure that I also wrotee something on this forrum. From the moment that I walked in until the moment I walked out of the building, every single encounter with any employee in the hotel was exceptional. Even weeks/months after when I was in contact with them over email, their response was also very prompt and courteous. My visit was a very short layover for a business type trip so I didnt get a chance to experience any of the amenities outside of my bedroom. But I can speak for the amenities inside the room and they were just right. The hotel seemed to have a conveniently located lounge/restaurant area and the overall layout was very clean. I know many would view the town as probably very unsafe and while I cant speak on behalf of that, I did feel safe and secure as a solo female traveler to this hotel. Please continue to provide the exceptional service to your customers, I would definitely recommend this location based on my great experience there.

Staff not friendly or helpfulSeated at breakfast and forgot about even after I brought it to the attention of the manager. He eventually served us himself. 1.5 hours for breakfast. This is our 2nd stay here on way to Safari vacation. Same experience with restaurant last visit as well.

My eighteen-year-old daughters volunteer/study program was abruptly halted at the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre, as a result of the ongoing pandemic. From back in the States, we were frantic with worry, attempting to rearrange three different flights for her prior to travel restrictions being imposed. She flew from Hoedspruit to Joburg but then had to wait over 33 hours before the next flight to NYC departed. While we were extremely anxious about the uncertainty of the situation, we knew that the InterContinental would take wonderful care of our daughter and indeed, they did! They swiftly checked her into one of their gorgeously appointed rooms and provided for her every need, including the preparation of fabulous vegan meals. During this crazy and frightening time, it was such a comfort to us knowing that she would be well-accommodated in Joburg by the incredible staff at the InterContinental. While it was next to impossible to speak directly to anyone at any of the airlines that we were dealing with, the staff at the InterContinental was immediately available to help us, reassure us and take care of our beloved child. We will forever be indebted to the InterContinental Tambo and we are especially grateful for everyones kindness to our daughter during this time of crisis! After the manager came she told me as upset l am and insulted l am and life endangered l am and not treated correctly, she insulted me expecting me to do the work of the maintenance and house keeping and do their job, after that even worse at breakfast no person was at breakfast l had to ask receiption who does breakfast then she called that girl had a bad attitude too not wanting to do a continental breakfast as l paid for the manager had to ask what l want, then brwakfast took more than 30minutes very unpleasant, l went back and the manager came because wifi isnt working l couldnt do my work she threatened me because her staff didnt facilitate the room as it should and she forced me to say l must do the job of the maintenance switching coffee machines on etc and endanger me with their attitude and racism ways, l report this to consumer and will spread it to the webIt was the worst stay ever the water somewhere leaked from the basin. The coffee machine wasnt switched on. All the staff was threatening me asif they have some issue. Its not good for any person to stay as the staff do not treat a person as the law says, most of them were provoking myself and l heard other guest complaining the same, l am engaging at the consumer protector of what they did to me. At checkinn the room wasnt checked. The wifi didnt work properly and l couldnt do no work. The coffee machine wasnt working and the persons 3 of them expected me to switch the machine on when its not my job to switch the appliances 8n it was for them to say the first time l phoned that they will send some one, the provoked me 5 times to say switch on the machine to find no red button l am not working there hut l was trwated like a worker, then the provocation of 3 persons had me to start protecting my self as l could clearly see they are doing this out of spite, the manager came finaly

We have stayed at this hotel a few times whether on arrival in SA before moving on or at the end of a stay before flying home. The hotel and restaurant are excellent in every way. Most of all there is a hushed calmness at the hotel which is often missing at airport hotels. Reception is never busy and the staff are helpful, accessible and have the time to provide great service. The hotel is very well maintained and comfortable.

Stayed at this hotel a few times now and it never fails to impress. Always get a great welcome with upgrades. Fresh fruits and snacks in the room as well. Very personable staff on arrival and with every service request. Rooms well kept and amenities are always excellent.Dinner was great, steak perfectly done.Had some issues unrelated to the hotel on booking a car on departure and concierge staff especially Busi was an absolute gem as the issue got sorted. I eventually went on my jolly way in very good spirits after the excellent customer service topped with a lovely cup of latte.Will definitely return.

Among the hotels I’m staying during my trips, this is one of the best hotels I stayed even the partial menu its great, and that is for me to say that so far it has been the best partial menu you can find on this pandemia.
