Great biltong, great food! My personal best is the toasted burger! But they are famous for their hot beef on rye

Cresthill Cafe is a strange place to visit. It is like the old Cafes of yesteryear. Kind of dingy, needs a paint job, I would say what we would call a dive. BUT. it is a wonderful experience eating there. We ate inside where there are only about 4 tables! Outside there were smokers. In fact my friend was not happy and wanted to leave but I had heard about their Hot Beef on Rye and we stayed. 3 of us ate there and the service and food was outstanding. We had nostalgic feelings for the old days of cafes and we could talk to each other without having to scream and shout! The Hot Beef on Rye lived up to its reputation and was delicious as were the chips. My friend loved the coffee. The waiter was a super guy, tentative and the service was quick. We had a wonderful lunch there, great food, great service and different for a change to the big, busy, noisy places in the area one usually eats at. Highly recommended but just dont judge this book by its cover!

Not much to write home about but the baked cheesecake is good. And thanks to Illy, they have the best freezos in town...

Daniel the waiter is the friendliest guy there is. Good Illy coffee. Youve got to be okay with smokers around you. Going earlier tends to be better. Nice vibe.

The best hot beef on rye in Johannesburg, good service and prices. The original method of hot brisket on rye, a generous portion. Other restaurants serve modern versions but this is the original. Well worth visiting no matter how far you have to travel!

Very informal. Nice food. Not a lot of parking and not very big. They have a small ramp for walkers but it is very steep so I would not recommend it if you are disabled.

The store looks great.The owner is not friendly.When he serves you and youre paying with cash, he throws your change on the counter. He hardly gives you the items you purchased in your hand.Terrible service from the owner.
