Ive been dining here for over 10 years and I can honesty say, hands down.....there is no better Indian food. Nishan, one of the owners is amazing and the food never disappointments. Authentic as it gets.
My absolute favorite Indian restaurant. The best aaloo and cheese paratha, amazing chicken Tikka, mouth watering chicken boti Masala (to die for), paneer Masala, butter chicken, and the list goes on.Definitely the best bombay crush ever.A must when Im in fordsburg 👌🙂👌🙂👌🙂
Food is very good, biyrani , butter chicken with cashew nuts and chicken tikka masala with gravy... Friendly service affordable prices...
Do you want lovely taste Samosa youre not lost, to eat HALLAL FOOD from this one and only Bay Leaf Restaurant
Their beans curry bunny was sweet. Who eats sweet bunny chow? They also do not serve any pickle with their bunny chow nor can you purchase any pickle separately. Their bunny chow is not worth it.
Excellent and delicious food. Friendly and efficient staff.
If you want to enjoy curries nice place to get
They have a chicken breyani special on a Friday. If youre looking for dry, tasteless food, go for it. The chicken was white and looked like it had been boiled. What a waste......
We used to visit the market further down the street until someone recommended Bay Leaf...It’s hard to spot if you don’t know where it is, so just look for PizzaHut or Wimpy while driving through Mint Road...The food is awesome...do not, however, order the Hot flavoured items(rather choose mild) if you’re not a fan of spicy foods because IT WILL BURN YOU!My go-to’s are the Butter Chicken with Cashew Nut, Chicken/Mutton Korma, Chicken/Mutton Bunny Chow, and their Chicken Tikka...Their Bombay Crush is also pretty good...we were a party of 6 so instead of ordering 6 individual glasses of BC, we opted to get the Jug which filled all 6 glasses...that saved us R90...Pros:•The food is delicious•There is almost always seating(Fridays are busier towards the evening)•The food is served hot with a few extra sauces on the side (free of charge)•They’re affordable•They are opened til late•Food is prepared fast if you opt for a Take-away instead of Dining-inCons:•Food May take some time to get to your table if you’re dining-in•There is not enough parking so you’re going to have to park in an adjacent street/alley...this gets worse on Fridays/Saturdays•There’s only 2 bathrooms (1 Male & 1 Female) so just be weary.A little side note:Please be patient with the waiters. English isn’t their first language so they’re not going to get your order correct if you talk fast, keep changing your mind, ask for something that isn’t on the menu(I’ve heard people ask for Deep Fried Ice Cream), etc.I rated it 4 stars because although the food is great, you somehow always have thoughts regarding whether your car is safe, should you find another place to park it, etc...
The food was good, the place is quite cold though. Service was quick and efficient.
Pricey and very small portions. Very neat and clean. Was surprisingly veryyyy quiet for a month end Sunday. We were the only 2 customers there at lunch time. Might be their prices
Catered my colleagues farewell. Chicken and Vegetable biryanis were top shelf. Back this evening for masala fish!
Great value for money and great flavors... I would highly reccomend the Mutton Karai and breyanis
Clean and well served friendly hosts
Serves was great food was absolutely delicious
Lovely food is very nice and staff is friendly
Love the variety and quality.my go to meals is tikka chicken n mutton breyani
I am very happy with the food
The best flavours, we have tried other places but they are by far the best
Their butter chicken is so nice 💯💯
So, before we get to the food, let’s go over a few things...Getting there is easy, finding the actual restaurant required some attention skills that I’ve yet to acquire...we basically ended up looking for the Pizza Hut and the Wimpy, BayLeaf is in the middle of those two restaurants. After finding it, finding parking is probably the most stressful part (mostly because you’re only able to Parallel Park)...Once you get your bearings, the process of getting to the restaurant and finding a table to be seated at is quite smooth...They give you this menu with SO MANY items that will leave you confused as hell...so after about 20minutes we were ready to order(our usuals because we fear change apparently)...the waiter took my friend’s order (Prawn Curry) and then he asks her follow-up questions like how spicy she wanted the food, how thick she wanted the gravy to be, whether she wanted big or small prawns, what starch did she want to accompany the dish with, and then what Naan Bread she wanted...After hearing the amount of questions he asked, we basically all placed our orders in pairs and ordered the exact same things as eachother so as to avoid the numerous questions...he took our drinks orders and those ended up coming to the table almost immediatelyThe food actually didn’t take that long as well and the portions were really big, the food was spiced to perfection.Foods ordered included:Butter Chicken With CashewNut- it was smooth, creamy and the serving was VERY generous. The butter naan would be the best accompaniment to this dish as there is already many pieces of garlic in the butter chickenChicken Tikka-we ordered Hot and it was HOT! But it was hot and delicious so it was worth the pain. The chicken may look dry but trust me, the marinade literally goes right through the chicken and into the bonePrawn Curry- So this dish was the one we were most skeptical about as we’ve had many MANY prawn dishes in our short lives. The dish took us all by surprise as it tasted SO FAMILIAR to us and we probably spent more time talking about how good it was than the actual event we went to the restaurant to celebrate. The only critique I’d have is that there weren’t much prawns in the dish and we might’ve lost friends over the stealing of prawns that took place but, otherwise, the restaurant was GREAT👌🏼
Best chicken Tikka I experience in my life. Great service too.
The food here is always freshly prepared and delicious. You do not wait long for your meal to arrive.Prices are reasonable and the staff are always friendly.
This is the place to be if ever you hungry and looking for great people that supply service with a smile
Consistently great food. Good service.
Cashew butterchicken is divine
Good, clean, tasty Indian cuisine that never disappoints... 👌🏽
I love the way they serve all their food, always has the same standard and that tantalizing taste. The food is amazing...spicy and juicy to suit every individual liking.

Good food at good prices
This place has the most delicious food I have ever tasted, veg, meat, what ever I ordered was never just OK, always a great experience, also Nishaan is great with customers and know what customer service is about, service is brilliant, food is outstanding, place is clean, I definatley recommend this place
Food good. Service so-so. Not bad
Bay leafs chicken tikka is always good.
Alwayz the best....value for money.
The food is normally very nice however today was a very bad experience..ordered 2 half loafs of beef bunny and omg was it beyond discusting.. Im sure the curry was from the weekend tasted sour and smelt terrible and then to top it all when I phoned to address the matter with the MANAGER he an a terrible attitude and slammed the phoned on me... Absolutely no customer satification & terrible service !!!
Best I enjoy food from here all the time
Best food.
The guy didnt know prices of Ramadan savoring and charged exorbitant prices. Wont go back
Lovely place and extremely good customer service, interior cleanliness is good and the food is great. Highly recommend
Great food at great prices.
Always the best food especially Breyani!!
Food was delicious.Staff very friendly
My 1st time at Bay Leaf, best and creamy butter 🐔, well the prawn soup will most def warm your ❤, haluparata, and the cajun chicken, love at first bite for sure
I really enjoy the food here. They have the best aloo paratha I have tasted anyway in Joburg. I also really enjoy their tandoori chicken and butter naans, which has a huge dousing of butter compared to other places. I can also vouch for their chicken karai curry. I recently ate their mutton bunny, which is not bad at all, is quite tasty but, best of all, has tons of meat. The prices are not high at all, which, when coupled with the generous portions and very tasty dishes, makes this restaurant well worth the money (and a visit).
Fast and friendly service. Delicious food!
Unbelievably rude people, overcharge -menu in store and menu online have different prices and not a clean restaurant. NO GO ZONE
A little bit on the expensive side.Good is delicious and place is clean.
Fresh Biriyani
Try their Aloo Parata and chicken curry dishes. Also good value for money.
Great food. Bunny chow, chicken korma, chicken tikka and Bombay crush are mind boggling. You have to be patient with the waiters. The service is not the fastest.
Delicious authentic Indian food. Halaal.
Food is always great!!!
Best Indian food in fordsburg. Gr8 service as well . Friday biryani awesome
Worst experience ever dont even deserve half a star. Stay away from this place
Excellent service and excellent staff
Fantastic food and service.
A destination for good authentic indian food. Will definitely go back.
The food was absolutely delicious it was.like a.proper.home cooked curry....awesome! They have a good selection on the menu and really reasonable prices .... very good value for money. It is in the Oriental Plaza - downtown Johannesburg however so worth a visit. I will definitely go again.
Food was fantastic
The food was good, service quick, but left a bad taste due to our waiter smelling like he did not bath for days.
Nice good tasty food friendly staff
If youre looking for great Indian cuisine then Bay Leaf is the place to go . Great service and even better food . the staff are so friendly and are always willing to help no matter what the time. The dishes are spectacular and theyre always willing to meet your requests and needs. 10/10 recommended
Great service
Amazing as always!♡
I frequent Bay leaf atleast 1once a month and to be honest, Ive never been let down. The food and flavours are exceptional. Restaurant is quite neat and waiters are always well presented and ever ready to provide you with suggestions. Definitely worth a try if youre looking for a wide variety of cuisines.
Good food and relaxed atmosphere
Bayleaf is one of the legends in fordsvurg for their great food.Besides a nice winter mutton curry, try their friday biriyani, top notch, even tho its half the pricce, portion is great and the quality is still there
We ordered the mix grill and it was as delicious as promised. Ali thank you so much for the lovely meals you guys prepare. Friendly and very welcoming. Bay leaf feels like home!! Keep up the great work!!! The mix grill is now definitely our new favorite!!!
Delicious chicken tikka
Food is lovely. Decor is terrible. Curtains are grungy and need to be washed. Area for washing hands is very dirty. Must be tiled
The food was absolutely terrible. The cheese and corn samosa tasted like there was a large amount of sugar added it was extremely sweet as well the fact that I actually ordered plain cheese and received these. I ordered a chicken korma and asked and paid for extra cashews but did not find a cashew in sight. One of the worst experiences I’ve had
One of the best restaurants Ive come across! Very friendly staff and customer experience. Food is well prepared and quickly made to perfection.
Delicious prepared food with helpful staff
Excellent service, yummy food
Total waste of money, biryani was off nd chicken tikka was taste less
The food is tasty fresh and speedy service
Amazing food i especially love their butter chicken and butter naan

A very nice restuarant to buy your food, especially now during the lockdown, good food and good service you cant go wrong, thanks Bay Leaf
This place used to be good, we ordered yesterday Lamb and chicken bryani, it was terrible, the food had a strange smell, looked bad and un edible. Also bought a Chicken Tika it was ok but not nearly as good as it once was,We also bought a Paneer Masala, Which was horrible. i dont think i will buy from Bayleaf in the future,
Staff and management are very noisy.did not enjoy the meal
