Accommodation was clean , spacious and adorably decorated. The host was available for any questions, checked in regularly and even provided tips on where to go find the best bike riding routes when we requested to hire the bikes. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for an escape from the busy city life.

Toerboer has beautiful rustic cottages that give you the perfect Grear Karoo experience. Extremely reasonably priced, clean and beautiful. The children loved the guided Valley of Desolation tour, and Dawid was such a great guide. Would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to have a restful Karoo experience.

This is a great place to stay, and I cant recommend it highly enough. Spotlessly clean, in the heart of the Karoo. The owners are very pleasant people with a gentle character of hospitaly. This may have been the first time we stayed here, it certainly wont be the last. Looking forward to more Toerboer stories around the fire. Till next time, cheers

Loved our stay, if we could we would’ve stayed longer but unfortunately our plans was set in stone. We got so much more than we bargained for and really enjoyed and appreciated the attention to detail, like the body wash and delicious rusks which really helped as we had to leave early the next morning. We got great tips from Karlien on Dawid of what to do in the area and they were so kind and hospitable.Would definitely recommend any day.

We spent one night at Toerboer cottage on our way from Maclear to Cape Town. It was a last minute booking and we are so glad we came across Toerboer. Exceptionally well priced, spotlessly clean, massive rooms and comfortable beds - we could have stayed for weeks!Dawid was a great host - he responded to our questions beforehand timeously, made sure we organised our dinner in advance as restaurants were closing early, and provided us with contact details for the restaurants.Lots of little touches that made our stay so comfortable - fresh milk in the fridge, delicious rusks, lovely ground coffee for the plunger and body wash in the shower. The cottage is so beautifully and tastefully decorated, and it is obvious that Dawid and his family care about the environment and the well-being of their town.We wished we had stayed longer, and will make a point to stop off in Graaf Reniet in the future so we can stay here again.

We planned on staying one night on our way from Cape Town to Gauteng but once we arrived and we met Karlien, Dawid and their beautiful son Richter we extended our stay immediately. The cottage was exquisitely decorated in a modern African style without being tacky. We got some great ideas for our own home! The beds were extremely comfortable with luxurious linen. The soaps and shampoo were better than what we had packed! There was delicious coffee, tea and rusks and they invited us for a delicious braai on our first night in town. The next day Dawid showed us Graaff Reinet on a walking tour and after a lekker lunch he took us to the stunning Valley of Desolation.Dawid’s knowledge and passion for the area is incredible and we can’t wait to book with them again soon. But the best part of our trip was Karlien’s cooking!! Absolutely incredible. This is such a cosy and beautiful place and we are planning another trip to Graaff Reinet with friends later in the year. Thanks for an unforgettable experience Karlien and Dawid.

Be warned the Voetpad Cottage is a sweltering hot oven with no air-conditioning; and the fans that are provided made such a noise that you cannot sleep with them on either. The cottage had not been swept (the owners excuse being it was a last minute booking - approx 3 hours prior to arrival) and the milk in the fridge provided for coffee had gone off. The worse night of our holiday, we hardly got any sleep at all and the kids were crying from exhaustion and unable to sleep from the heat way past midnight! At time of complaint the owner simply stated that the booking description states that there is no air-con (but the description says nothing about the old zinc-roofed cottage being overbearingly hot), it was that kind of heat that takes your breath away when you walk in through the door! The owner also defended that the 6th Jan 2020 was a particularly hot day which is absolute nonsense. If you check Accu-weather you will see it was 32 degrees Celsius on the 6th (an average summer day) and one the lowest temperatures over this period. The week before temperatures ranged from 33 - 36 degrees Celsius in Graaff-Reinet and the following week it reached 44 degrees Celsius. I would hate to be the poor soul booked into the property on that day when 32 degrees Celsius was already too much in this ill insulated property. I did the right thing and requested a refund (or part refund at least) for the night based on very valid complaints but you will find that this property owner is NOT the caring type and refused outright. The lack of care is backed by the lack of providing a clean property and something as basic as ensuring that the milk in the fridge is not off. VERY BAD VALUE FOR MONEY; AND YOU WILL NOT GET ANY SLEEP OVER HERE DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS OF SOUTH AFRICA. BE WARNED!
