Meh. I was not impressed with Grass Roof. They got the order wrong and my beef burger was rather dry and rubbery. An experience best described as tasteless and uneventful.The good: the waitress was friendly and helpful. Overall service was okay.

Had a delicious breakfast that was very filling and affordable for the price range. I had the grass roof fritata and my friend had the scones. The scones were fresh and pretty large. The fritata was very good as well, I would definitely have it again.The service wasnt all that great, as we struggled to get our waitors attention when we needed more drinks and the bill.Overall its a very kid and animal friendly restaurant. Theres some resident cats that will ignore all your attempts to pet them😂.Theres also a market where you can pick up your fresh produce or some baked goods for home. Id definitely visit again

Beautiful restaurant with wonderful outdoor seating, good food and best cocktails all at an affordable price. Grass roof is best for a chilled afternoon with friends or family and has a play area suitable for kids. I love that you can watch the kids play while enjoying a good meal.

One of the cutest places I have been. So Authentic. Fantastic coffee and the most unbelievably delicious Milk tart milkshake - literally no different to the traditional milk tart. Definitely a place I would visit again.

Very busy place so service was a bit slow, felt a bit disorganised. Kids play area and small shop to buy artisan products. Coffee was fine but pouring cream was sweetned which was terrible. Food was okay though.

Grass Roof is relax mode defined. The Breakfast was filling, delicious and looked happy. I enjoy breakfast pizzas and this didnt disappoint. The sitting outside is a happy place & for those with children, there is a play area and as old as I am I got to go for a little swing 😃.

Very beautiful trail walk, lovely looking restaurant and food looks great! They offer gluten free options on the menu but they never ever have in stock which is dissapointing as there are people with real intolerance and celiac, restaurants should cater for all. If its offered on the menu, please do have it in stock

Great restaurant situated in a huge garden with play area for kids and outside or inside seating. Food was great and in monster proportions. Dog friendly at the restaurant. The farm stall has fresh vegies and the usual stuff, nothing special. Were rudely told dogs may not enter the farmstall but there were no signs indicating this. One star less due to the agressive lady..

The short version of the review , is possibly the worst experience I have ever had at a Resturant .I went there with a small group of friends , and they were busy , which we didn’t mind .We sat down , it took just over an hour for my one friend to receive a single Cappachino , which then we complained because we were still waiting for our food at that point ,Then they Brought us our dessert before we even got mains , just to try give us something .After another 30 min they raced to give us our food , which consisted tough steak , that was asked to be cooked medium ,Fish cakes that tasted like nothing but potato , and disappointing small tasteless toasted sandwiches .After being starved for so long we proceeded to eat , because we were so hungry .Then went to management, and without a care in the world , said “if we had an issue we should have sent the food back “We Could clearly tell she was experienced with brushing off these complaints , and had no interest in rectifying or trying to better our experience .I want to be honest and clear , I am the type of person that generally doesn’t complain, and does not like confrontation, but this just blew my mind ……If you really want to go try the restaurant ,I suggest maybe going when it’s quiet.It’s clear they have kept adding on infrastructure for the demand , but have not build procedures in place to cope with that demand .Such a sad let down……Rather go to Barnacles around the corner , they deserve the business .

Waiter was friendly and helpful.Setting is peaceful and unique. Definitely different and unique.The food was the biggest downfall.... again. I ordered the butternut soup, it was so sweet, it taste like the chef emptied the sugar pot in the pot of soup. It was very watery. Worse Ive tasted. I could simply not eat it. I ordered something else... a plate of potato wedges. It was great.The bill came, I ended up having to pay for the soup I could not eat! What a rip off. The waiter said they cant take it off as there was nothing wrong with it and it was because we did not like it.Ive simply made up my mind. I will unfortunately never be back. What a shame!Arrogance will not get this place far.

The staff at Grass Roof are friendly and the food delicious. There is a lovely area for kids to play in and dogs are more than welcome. The farmstall shop sells organic and homemade products. A wonderful way to spend a morning, although prices are a little steep.

This is a great place for a breakfast or lunch. The restaurant was very busy, but the service was still fast and efficient. The prices are really good for the amount of food you get as the portions are large. The food was tasty and very good. There is a play area for the kiddies outside and also a shop where you can buy pottery and other gifts. The owners seem to like cats-a black and white cat was sleeping on the couch and the menu had a lot of pictures with cats on it. As other customers brought their pets along, the place seems to be pet friendly. Definitely worth a visit.

This is one of those places you go to relax and unwind, with a nice green scenery and food that is freshly prepared and locally sourced, they never disappoint in quality always tasty and fresh and a must visit when around.

The dessert was absolutely wonderful and definitely the best bubblegum milkshake Ive ever had , the farm stall/shop is not pricey and they sell everything from dog treats to freshly grown pumpkins , its an amazing place for a family trip or just for a date !!

A great place to visit, but can be slow if busy. So expect to wait on Saturdays and Sundays, even waiting to receive the menu. But the food is great, service is good (even though there could maybe be more waiters?) and has a nice play park for kids

Amazing food and vibe! The staff are always friendly and we are never disappointed with the service or quality of the food. There is a full outdoor kids area that has swings, jungle gym, water featur and more. This is the place to be for kids to have fun with friends while the parents relax with a cup of coffee and breakfast.

A fantastic place for the family. A unique and very laid back atmosphere. Very popular with the locals, and with good reason. Everything from preserves, rusks, biltong, a super restaurant to fresh produce and trails. (And very good coffee).Bring everyone for a bite and to stock up on local, lekker things.

What a great experience, we didnt get a chance to eat there, but the setting and the offerings in the shop are awesome. The decor etc is also rather funky, and the grass growing on the roof is amazing, well with a visit.

It was a Thursday afternoon and the parking was packed. We nearly turned round. But we were surprised by the size of the place. The place was busy. We thought that service would be slow, but to our surprise it was quick and efficient. The waiter was helpful, knowledgeable and friendly.

The place looks beautiful, its aesthetically pleasing... the food however was very underwhelming. I had the cuban sandwich and something was just off about the taste and smell, I couldnt even take a second bite.

It was great. They have a lot of outdoor seating for the people and a playground for the kids. The food was outstanding. Meals are well prepared with excellent presentations. The stay is friendly and helpful. The articinal bakery makes the best baked goods. The gift shop also have a variety of product. The grounds contains a nursery where you can walk through and buy some lovely plants.

WHILE THE SERVICE WAS LOVELY, THE OVER PRICED FOOD WAS EXTREMELY BLAND. I THOUGHT I HAD CORONA FOR A SECOND, I TRIED ADDING SALT AND PEPPER AND THEN HAD TO ASK FOR A SAUCE.

If I could this would have been 3,5 stars, just because Arnold, our waiter kept us so well informed.Service was slow and then Arnold made us aware that our main course would take 45 minutes to table after order placed. Actually took 49 minutes.Food was good quality, cucumber slightly wilted.Would have loved to experience the Line Fish of the day but unfortunately the establishment could not do this dish withoutt onions (I am allergic to onions). This dish just seemed to be an exiting dish with the combinations of ingredients.We were a little displeased that on requesting what the ingredients of the GR Sunset and GR Sweet Lady were, we were told that this stays a secret. At least Arnold could tell us that there were no pineapple in either.Please, if Management of thus establishment reads this review, rethink how you indicate your cocktails, and specifically whats in it, on the menu.

Went there yesterday. Unfriendly waitress, had to wait very long for our coffee and even longer for our food, and never saw the waitress again. Had to phone the office number just to ask for our bill. Food over-rated and certainly wont be seeing us again.

Superb food in a beautiful country setting but only minutes from the city. Lovely area for children to play outside. Plenty of kitties to pamper and a store filled with home grown and home made health food! A super all round experience.

Extremely disappointed in the gradual decline in service.We have been regulars here over the past 4-5years and been experiencing poor service for the last couple of months.Today upon arrival we waited nearly 5mins at the entrance before someone took our temperature. Then sat at a table for 10-15mins before getting the menu’s, and then after that another 10-15mins before taking our orders.The place wasn’t even that busy at the time.All I can say is, you will lose customers if this continues, I will certainly think twice before coming here again.

Very nice, comfy and urban restaurant with amazing food - perfect for having a little stop. There is a lot for kids to do without having to watch them every minute! Also great to shop some nice food for a little picknick at Sardinia Bay as the have a little farmers shop.

Kiddy friendly to the max and there is a shop where very little can not be bought by those looking for a healthy diet.Do shop early since they also host a park run and this place pumps over a weekend.Being able to buy beautiful veggies loose is really a brilliant idea on every level and this shop does it’s part to cut down on single-use plastic.People who live active lifestyles will love this place as it is often a hub of activity or meeting place for cyclists and runners.The less active are obviously also welcome...

Grassroof is a lovely family restaurant with fantastic playground for kids including a bike track through the gardens, lovely grassy patch and swings, jungle gym and slide. Most of the veggies served and cooked are grown on site. The Sardinia Bay Park Run starts and ends here every Saturday morning and its a popular spot for cyclists and runners to refuel. Dogs are all welcome - as long as they can control their owners. We had the crazy milkshake to share at R70...defs not something youd want to tackle in your own.

Always a good experience. The kiddies love playing in garden area, exploring the walking path, playing in the tunnel and on jungle gyms etc. Food is good too. Most enjoyable on a sunny day for outside play.

Great atmosphere over the weekends. I really enjoy the Park Run every Saturday. The restaurant and shop is also great with a farm-like / Padstal atmosphere. Its kids and cycling friendly

Had an amazing breakfast here. Great selection available for all kinds of tastes. We were six people and good choices for each person including a “breakfast pizza” which the kids loved. The venue caters for both inside and outside seating and there is a custom built bicycle rack built by Momsen bikes to park your bike. There is a kids play area on site, further adding appeal as a family friendly venue.There is also a great farm stall with all kinds of interesting produce including freshly baked bread. A highly recommended venue that has stood the test of time. Ample parking available on the grounds and across the road.

We visited Grass Roof out of curiosity in 2017 and besides the fact that my daughter got sick from your food, we still left with fond memories and promised ourselves that we would visit again when in PE again. We visited PE again during late April and looked forward to visiting The Grass Roof again and even convinced friends to come along. We visited on 27 April 2021.Sadly, this place has become a shadow of its former self. The service from Ashleigh was poor. He seemed disinterested and even slightly irritated to be our waiter and tried to make our lives as difficult as possible and then had the odasity to give me a stare when he did not receive a tip. I am also not impressed that he thought it well to leave a Bible quote on our slip (wrote Isiaih 53:6 on top of the slip). I am not a Christian and I do not appreciate anyone that thinks they must advertise their religion/beliefs to others. Keep your religion to yourself. I respect other peoples religious beliefs, but please also respect mine.The food was poor to average and some of our orders were mixed-up and incomplete (still waiting for those potato wedges Ashleigh).Anyway, we wont be visiting again ever. Good luck with your future endeavours. Tip - maybe get a smoking area.Owner - please do not respond to this by saying I should reach out to you on social media.
