A refreshing nature reserve in the city, Very beautiful with lots of amazing trees , it was very fascinating to see the crabs in their environment, we walked for about 20 minutes on our little trail. (edit) on the second visit we took the other trail which leads you out straight to the beach.. Absolutely perfect. Please do not litter whilst there or anywhere else for that matter!!!!!Important to note they are open once a month every 3rd Saturday of the month from 8am to 1pm. Enjoy good people I highly recommend a visit here.(grab a black bag and help clean up the beach, Theres volunteers cleaning up at almost every visit)

An island of tranquility within an urban setting, this is a well-maintained and safe place (when guides are around). The nature reserve offers guided tours along an extensive boardwalk that meanders through the thick mangroves. A well curated reserve with signs on trees and the useful habitats. Every Durbanite should visit this secret gem, a stone throw from the city centre.Well done to the volunteers, Ezemvelo and WESSA !!

I cant believe that in all the time Ive lived in Durban, I havent visited this gem before. We went there for a plant fair, and took a very pleasant stroll along the boardwalks, among the mangroves. Hundreds of bright orange-red crabs scuttle along the sands, shyly retreating to their holes if disturbed. The mangroves are fascinating, and next time Id like to take a guided tour to learn more about this incredible ecosystem.

Very informative guided walk and a guided bird walk hosted on the 3rd Saturday of every month from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The guides are superb and the walk is very easy with both a slow pace and a short distance. Travel through the various habitats and learn why this protected area is so important, else just take an easy amble through the reserve and enjoy the beauty and fresh air. It really feels as if you are transported to a different place and time. Highly recommended for both kids and adults alike.
