Great for a quick visit get on the boat and explore. Wear closed comfortable shoes as the deck, steps and places can be a little steep and slippery to get into.
Excellent stop by. Kids will love it. Pricing is negligible. The only drop in stars is due to a lack of more maritime to explore.
Place is amazing and staff super friendly.Wonderful place for family
Its an awesome experience going through these old ships and seeing all the components there of. From the battle ship to the tug boat, we thoroughly enjoyed the outing. Its an inexpensive visit and the staff are friendly. Ablutions are adequate. The only problem is the turf wars outside by the car guards who sit out in the open and use drugs whilst arguing about who is looking after which car.
Fun place to take kids to. Get to explore two boats at your leisure. On the day we went one ship was closed to public. There is some work that could be done but overall for a cheap place to visit and spend an hour it is worthwhile.
You can jump in a boat and explore all the places in it. Nice experience for adults and kids
Cant review....currently closed by covid restrictions, the museum should have that on here !
It has two tugs and a mine sweeper that you can explore. The kids love all the ladders and clambering up and down. They are trying to restore some of the ships, but this is tough work against the ravages of time. View of the harbour from the mine sweeper is great. The tin house that is part of the museum (not the one that you get your tickets from) has some interesting history on Durban but is often overlooked.
Awesome to see some history about Durban
Beautiful history but in need of restoration.
Pitty about the partly sunken SAS Durban. When will it be corrected.
Very educational and staff are lovely, helpful and friendly
Its pretty cool, but its not very big. A lot of the exhibits are closed and one of the boats are half sunk.
Learn abt Maritime history nd MaritimeTerminology
Parking is bad. The area is always dirty. To many vagrins, making it very unsafe for family outings. The place stinks of urine
No maintenance being done
What a lot of fun with the children! I was amazed at how much of each of the boats youre able to see and touch. The entry fee is barely anything (R10 per adult). The boats definitely have some severe maintenance issues, but theyre still safe. Well certainly be back in a few months, we couldnt explore every room in just one trip.
Its is a great place for the kids
They do not look after the museum. hope it will come right
A great, short and affordable outing for the family. Toilets are well maintained. The ships are well looked after. Not ideal for obese people and kids under 6 due to very steep, narrow stairs on the ships. A great learning experience. Enter at Wilsons Wharf and drive along the fence, park outside the museum. Not advisable to park on the street.
One ship half sunk the place is filthy, with lots of homeless people around
One ship is half sunken and not much to see because everything is blocked off
It’s a neat place and you get to do a quick walk about on the ship. We had 2 kids with us and they loved it. It has rusty parts and steep staircases but worth a visit. They should consider photo props to add to the experience.
Its a really cool experience. You can climb all over inside and on top of the various ships and boats. Not much is off limits. There are a lot of nice displays there too with good historical information. The ships are a bit dilapidated, but theres ongoing work to get them back to a good state. Theyre always looking for volunteers. Its the best R10 youll spend in the area if youre at all interested in some navy history.
Very great
Actually really fun for the kids to go exploring ships. The ships havent been maintained to it is really rough exploring. A good 1 to two hour activity for younger kids.
Very much interesting place to be, the history is written all over the place near each item, I liked the fact that those items are real, you can see that they were used early in the 60s and signs are there to notify dangerous places not enter, a guide will be helpful to take you deep down in the engines. I could not go down there because I was alone. I would have loved to touch some of the radios if was acompanied by someone. #history of Durban #child friendly #nice view #cheap entry ticket #lovely place
Very dirty around the boat.
They have a vast array of fish types with interactive staff who keeps the public informed on all the fish, turtle species, coral formations that is in the park. The dolphin, seal and penguin shows was a highlight for the kids. The Water park was also lots of fun with the slides and tube riding. I must for fun filled family outings and theres ample food places to cater for hungry stomachs.
Interesting walk around 3 ships from different eras of the sea. The museum is a bit worse for wear, and not particularly accessible for the elderly given the climbing around required, but its low price of entry and quaint atmosphere meant I enjoyed it overall. The model ocean liners are a work of art, intricate and exact.
Nice experience
Very nice place
Very interesting. Not for people who are unstable on their feet. A warning would be nice. And the stairs you have to go through to get from the street to the entrance smell of urine something terrible. They really should do something about it.
Lovely place.
Currently not allowed on to ships due to covid but kids still loved seeing them up close
Great place to visit, small coffie shop and bathroom are clean. Great 30min stop if you are in the area.
Good place with lots of history and useful information. Needs a guide to navigate better which is missing. Also needs maintenance.
Getting tired and not helped by lack of funding. Understand that there is a small group of enthusiasts that are trying to do some restoration but maybe too little too late. Nevertheless the grandchildren enjoyed the time climbing in out and over the boats.
Very interesting
Still an awesome day out for the family and those interested in history and nautical past. The museum is excellent with lots of installations, photographs and facts to peruse. Tugs and warship still in good condition but a cash injection from municipality or Transnet would make it a 5 star experience. Front desk staff were rude and unprofessional so dont let them spoil your experience
For only R10 per adult, it is well worth it! Absolutely incredible how big they really are when you walk inside them. Hour and a half well spent!
A beautiful museum by Durbans harbour. The museum allows us to view our history as South Africans. Its a great experience if you havent been inside a ship. The entry fee is ridiculously cheap for what you will experience :)
There was no one to show us around, we missed out on seeing one of the areas as a result. Parts of the ship that were damaged were still accessible, basically you explore at your own risk
2 of the boats are in the dry dock. Kids enjoyed it but felt it would have been better with more boats to explore
Growing up in Durban, this museum was one of my favorite places. I had not been there in many years, unfortunately returning recently I discovered the whole place had been seriously neglected and not cared for. This was around March 16. Hopefully by now it had been revamped.
Was great kids loved it went nice and early so very quiet and everyone doing their thing on the harbor was so peace full
The guys are very friendly and theres great monumental heritage sites at the museum. If anyone loves Whales and historical learning you can enjoy the tour around the area.
Interesting.
Well wort the entry of R0. Even if it cost its interesting
Has an amazing view
Fun and exciting, amazing place for kids apparently there is a venue for kiddies birthday parties. Although some items do you need to be maintained before it deteriorates.
Visit was really interesting. Children with us had a super time and leart a lot. It was fun exploring the insides of a real ship
A really wonderful experience seeing our history .A truly recommended outing.
Very lovely place with good historical information and a great experience. Will definitely consider it for school excursions in the future.
Lovely experience for the kids, they loved learning all about the ships and boats.
Nice for the kiddies, adults must just watch their heads 🤣
Kids will love it. Very interesting
History of Natal is visible
Unfortunately the boats went in for repairs when visited. We only saw one small boat and the museum. The staff was very friendly
I came here as a kid on school trips.Decided to take me girls to visit the museum. They love it and found it very interesting.
An amazing place where history collides with the modern world an indepth history of Port natal the three ships are from different parts of history you should come and spend a few hours and youre learn a lot about the area. And a gun that moves using handle just for the kid
Intresting, but need cleaning in the water around ships.
If you like to see how the inside of a boot looks like you must go here.
I go here often, It has three ships to explore, two of which are one the water. There is also a small museum with model boats.Climbing the ladders into the engine rooms is most fun with children.
Due to the fact that the museum was spotted to be open the security informed me that the museum is closed for the public. They only allow staff to enter the premises. We were looking forward to the museum and we had to drive home with no luck.
It had a very friendly and helpful guide, which I think wasnt the case in the past. The kids loved going into all the rooms, and playing with the Canon guns and rudder.
Nice time. Spent over an hour looking around.
Great little tour in Durban City , The entrance fee is R10 and you get to see and experience how ships were Made and operated years ago.
Interesting place. Good insight to the history of Durban. Entrance fee of R10, snacks(chips and are available from the ticket office.
See how awesome boats realy are.how far technology advanced through time. Would be nice iff a bit of money is spent to jazz the place up a bit.
