Worst experience ever! The sanitary is gross, as in disgusting. The room is full with dust like its never been cleansed. Also the staff is unfriendly and ignorant.I will NEVER come back here again.

Came to visit a friend.The property is super clean and the staff are all really friendly.There is a pool table here as well as a swimming pool which is very coolThe pool is lit up and the walls are filled with art 😊

Place was well set up for a solo traveler. Theres closed parking, the place is central. With a bar, good music, and a bunch of people from all over the world, theres nothing more one could ask for.

Good location for going out. Florida road is the place to be in the evening. Atmosphere was very relaxed and very nice common outside area with pool table, swimming pool and bar. There are warm showers. Kitchen could be cleaner and there are limited outlets in your room for charging your phone at night.

Not very clean, mosquitos and weird people...

If you were a party-crazy backpacker you might love this place. I, however, cant give words of praise. Its hard to sleep here, especially on the weekends, because of the music, drinking, and commotion through the wee hours of night. It also isnt comforting that people who are not even staying at the hostel come here to chill. So... who else knows the gate password? Finally, Im grateful to this place for their non-existent breakfast.

Bad hygiene 😖

Very laid-back place. The staff are cool and helpful. Attracts a young crowd. The place is neat. Its in a great location, close by to lots of nightlife and entertainment in general.

Stayed at Tekweni a few years back and had a great time, recommended by my very good friend Richard Clarke (RIP, was a great dude). Another friend stayed there recently, Charlie Keylock - graffiti artist, he rates it highly. Five stars because its a cool spot, and I love the responses to comments!

Be very careful before booking into this place. Not even the phone numbers they have on their website is legit. If you are a backpacker I would advise to stay clear of places like this. The service and experience will most likely the same kind of effort they put into keeping the information on their website up to date.

Positives:1) LocationSituated just around the corner from a lively road with good restaurants and pubs - so if you do not want to spend the evening at the establishment, it is very easy to go out; walking outside - to and up&down Florida Road (the lively road mentioned earlier) felt very safe.2) Atmosphere/EnvironmentFriendly: Allows you to meet and socialize with fellow guests - plenty off outdoor sitting area.The hosts are very upbeat and accommodating.There is a bar - though not well provisioned and very small is sufficient.Negatives:1) The Rooms:OMG!!!So my partner and I checked into one of the privates rooms (Room No. 8) and just EVERYTHING about this room -EVERYTHING- was just OFF!SO BAD!After having been show the room, we wanted to cancel the reservation but were simply too tired to go out in middle of night into a city we are not familiar with looking for accommodation.We spent two nights there but could only bring ourselves to sleep in that room (each night) by making sure we had at least a bottle of wine -each- before going up there.2) It can be quiet noisy throughout the night (so again plenty of wine before going up to sleep helps).

An easy going backpacker, with a nice atmosphere, pool and everything you need. But the beds were not that good and its not the cleanest place. But OK.

A reasonably priced backpackers in Berea. It is a stones throw from Florida Road with its exciting collection of restaurants and clubs. So its greatest features is its price and location. However, the latter point only counts as far as its distance to Florida Road. It is not close to any of the stops on Durbans People Mover bus network nor is it really a (safe) walking distance from the beaches/ stadium. The room was completely uninspiring (you get what you pay for!). Furthermore, there was no toilet paper in the bathroom. It was also noisy because of the surrounding nightlife. The WiFi was also painfully slow. Nonetheless, there were other great feutures like the swimming pool, pool table and bar. I obviously left the place with mixed feelings.

Even though the staff is friendly, I felt that management or the owner can do a lot more for their customers. Sheets were torn, kitchen had little plates, cutlery, cockroaches, no lights in the shower I was using, an alternative shower wasnt working, drinks and accommodation overpriced, furniture dirty. The only thing that made this bearable was the surrounding area. This Backpackers gets 2 thumbs down. 👎👎#inmyopinionACTUALLY, I WASNT A PART OF THAT GROUP. JUST GOES TO SHOW THAT A MASSIVE RENOVATION IS NEEDED.

Relaxed Backpackers with all the basics you could need. Swimming pool, lounge, security and enough space in the rooms.

In need of TLC.The facilities needs updating. A room we were shown to had mould on some walls and the beds smelt foul. The bathrooms sometimes smelt of urine due to poor upkeep.The owners seemed friendly, but some support staff were rude.

My friends and I stayed there in December 2017. It was a very nice and comfortable stay for us. We were treated politely and the other guests were just as friendly and welcoming. Great location. Good Party atmosphere and friendly staff. However Cleanliness could be better.

Management is awesome and flexible. Guests have a fully equipped kitchen to make their food and a braai area. Did I mention that theres a bar here too? The staff are soo helpful, they give great suggestions on how to make the best of your Durban stay.

The stuff is kind, the place is clean. It is off the busy area yet not too far from the city. Best for holiday, work or just one night sleep.

Chill vibe, meet locals and travellers. Lots of great places to eat and drink around.

Was woken up by bugs crawling over me in room two. Good vibe in the bar area, but the place really needs a clean and check over. Bathrooms are pretty gross and the provided duvets and pillows are particularly disgusting in the shared dorms. Cant fault the staff on their assistance though, and were helpful in the morning with sorting out the room.

Tekweni backpackers is meant for travelers on a bidget, but beware, this place is not nice! Its dirty, and the atmosphere is sketchy. Having said that, its probably a safe bet for travelers looking to stay safe and not spend lots of 💰

Friendly staff and cool place

Unfortunatly, this is the worst hostel I have been to inside and outside South Africa and I have been to many ones. Killed 4 cockrachets in one hour in the room. Found another dead one in the kitchen storage places, where I am supposed to put my food and a giant dead one in the shower. The staff is also very unfriendy. Checking new people into the rooms before the old ones even checked out in the morning and putting pressure on people to check out faster is a no go! The one star goes to the location, which is pretty nice close by Florida Road. All in all, would never stay here again and not recommend anyone to stay here!The owner says that he knows me and had a conversation with me. Sorry but this is certainly not the case probably he mixed me up with someone else. I just told my experience - other people might experience something different. Maybe things have changed - I havent been there. Everyone can write a comment here.

Always make you feel welcome!

Dont stay at this hostel unless you have a fetish for used linens. The price of 650 ZAR for a double is a mere ripoff considering the non existing curtains, the pothole bathroom and the fan which only works when the light is on. Furthermore, you will be bitten by nasty bugs in the night. Really, dont go there.

Teks is a place that any backpacker should consider. Located in the middle of a busy area with tons of attractions, the people just make it all the better

My stay was really not pleasant at all , Private bedroom small , mattress lumpy and very old like wise the pillows. Curtains broken bathroom out of order. The alternate bathroom shower broken and the bath cracked.No tea or coffee on offer.very unhappy customer.

Nice mold on the wall, cockroaches, dirty bedding, no toilet paper, you have to pay for it….never again for me. And keep in mind that people can suddenly be in your room, while you had simply locked it.

Dirty and dangerous

The bathrooms were very dirty. There are no lockers in the rooms, they recommend leaving valuables at reception, which I did and I lacked money. The only good thing was the location.

There were five of us and there over New Years Eve. The atmosphere itself was quite nice, but there was already very loud music in the morning from the reception. The fan in the room could not be turned on and it was extremely hot in the room. The duvets partly stank of sweat and the loft beds were just stacked single beds and were not properly secured. The prices of the drinks were okay. The kitchen was big and clean. The bathrooms are very tiny. The faucets could hardly be used because they were set very strangely and you couldnt keep your hands entertained. There was also no soap and the toilet paper was always empty and none was refilled.This backpacker was the most expensive on our trip at R200 and we had better backpackers where I would have been more willing to pay so much!I dont know if its just that expensive because there are so many bars nearby, but I wouldnt go back!
