Great service...very friendly atmosphere that really calms you down for the interview. Service is 10times better than Cape Towns Embassy. This was worth the flight over to Durban.

I sent in my passport to be renewed. When I went to make copies of my retirement visas to be renewed they were cut out of my passport with a slim price of tape to cover damage. I never thought the Enbassy would do that to a US citizen. If I wasnt aware of what they did I could find myself in a horrible situation. What a very sad world we live in!

Just got off of the phone with Charmaine. She was professional and very helpful. She saved me time by explaining that she could email me a statement that I need from them as well as directed me to where I could go to get the affidavit without having to pay the $50 to them. So nice to have my phone call answered by a very kind and helpful human being right away!

There are a few parking spots on the side of the road outside 303 Pixley Kaseme Street. As you enter the building there is a pre-screening security desk for visitors to the US consulate. Be ready to show your appointment confirmation letter, DS160 confirmation and passport. Then make your way to the buildings security desk near the elevators. After signing the visitor book make your way up to floor 31 in the elevator. As soon as you exit the elevator  a security guard will give you a key for a small locker big enough for your phone. You are allowed to carry your wallet and keys on your person into the consulate if you want to.Youll pass a security checkpoint then be directed to take a seat near Window 4. An official will determine the purpose of your visit and double check if you have sufficient supporting documentation, e.g. letter of employment, invitation letter etc. Next youll queue seated near Window 2 to have your fingerprints scanned. Finally the interview happens at Window 1. Youll stand in front of a friendly consulate official who will ask you questions about the purpose of your trip, how long youve been employed, who is traveling with you, etc. Plan to spend around 1 - 2 hours here.

Thank you to all at the consulate for the professional service offered to my elderly Father today during his visa interview. He was so nervous before the appointment and his excitement is now over the top as he is able to look forward to his first US holiday.

Not the greatest visa experience.I understand they need to protect their country and they need to question the purpose of your travel and confirm your ability to pay your way but there is no need for the Consul General to treat you with disrespect.15 years ago I applied for my last visa here and the Consul General was an absolute gentleman. He asked the right questions but in a professional way.

My experience was great. The online application process is simple. The instructions are clear. The actual consulate is in the Delta building, which is actually a shopping centre on the ground floor. Found it a bit difficult to find the reception for the consulate. Its opposite Nandos. The consulate is on the 31st floor. You undergo a screening process by reception. They dont allow food or drink upstairs. So dont take anything but the required documentation. You can take your phone, car keys and watch up with you but youll have to lock it in of the lockers on the 31st floor- theyll give you the key.The actual process took twenty minutes in total. The staff are polite. Make sure you have all the required documents as this makes things really easy and quick and you will avoid having to trek all the way back to submit. There is no parking in the actual building. I managed to find a parking lot just a few meters away near the department of Justice. Parking cost R12 only.

The interviewer was rude and very tough. I have my 22months old baby with me , before enter the interview room, I wanna grab a toy to calm my baby. She seems very impatient. And speak too fast and firm . Declined my application with no specific reason. I stay in SA for many years , and conduct a business and bought a house here. I have all enough financial approved and itinerary. How could she declined me?

Today my mother in law and nephew were denied a visitor visa to be present for the birth of our first child after providing ample evidence that they were coming for a short stay because this consulates staff is not professional enough to read. I am an service member and officer of the United States and they even cast doubt on my reputation. I will be taking it up with my elected representatives and the ambassador.

Shocking experience today at the Durban Consulate. the consular is rude and UNLAWFUL denying visas to people who have permanent jobs, own a home, have a child that attends a South African school, and family in SA. If you are under the age of 45 dont waste your time here. she did not even look through all of the relevant documentation and made us out to be illegal immigrants.

I was also treated in the same rude manner as most of the other reviews I see here. This lady Sandra Cortina I believe is her name trips you up in the interview to answer her question and if not to her liking will deny you in less than 30 seconds of your interview even if your supporting documents provide evidence that you will be returning, trip is funded, medical is covered and flights have been provisionally booked should the visa be approved. She will close you out and make you feel like youre trying to go over to the USA and never come back. Worst experience ever!

One off the worst experiences I have had in my life. Definitely the most unfriendly and rude person I have ever come across.I am not saying this because my visa was denied. I am saying this because of the manner in which I was treated and the manner in which it was denied. Although ALL supporting documents were available, it was clear that she had made her mind up within the first 30sec after the 1st question of the interview and none of my docs were even requested. Was made to feel like a fleeing criminal. An Absolutely disgusting representation of the u s.

My experience was terrible, everything was fine up untill the interview, this American woman behind the window doesnt even listen to what you have to say, and when you speak she interrupts you she does not look at any supporting evidence as to where you are going and what you will be doing, I felt as if nothing I said would satisfy her and just like that visa denied never mind the fact that I had to cover travel cost and accommodation cost to be there and pay the visa fee.Now thanks to that woman I have to do it all again somewhere else and pay for it all...AGAIN!!!

I must say before going in there a day before and reading all this negative reviews,I was really tense. I walked in there the next day with my knees knocking only to be greeted and directed my friendly staff at security.I had applied for an emergency appointment because I needed a C1D Visa to board a Ship.I got there at 8am and there was alot of people... So yeah if you are running a weeeehhh bit late dont think you missed it... because it does get quite busy there. So that was done and I went to counter 2 first to submit my documents to be checked and Yes they are straight forward but they very helpful... So all done there and I wait for my interview after 3minutes the next counter called me ,an American lady very friendly and polite so this where the interview part comes in. All you need to do is be confident, answer all the questions she ask you carefully and clearly. She was so good that I requested a B1/B2 Visa to be added to my C1D Visa that I was applying for and she asked me,what is the reason you want this for.. and I answered her and she said okay no problem its approved. You will receive your visa in a week. After 2 days I got an email notification saying my visa is departing from where to the DHL office and Ill get on Monday. Reason for Monday is because this DHL thingy was closed on Saturday and Sunday.Thats it guysBe positiveLet everything aside before you go in there.Because your attitude determines the energy state you are in and that attracts what is coming your way✌️5/5 for me

My experience was horrible.. you can expect a disrespectful woman behind the counter who won’t even try to listen to you or look at your evedence to state your visit... she will talk over you and you will be denied before even given a chance to speak.. horrible service!!! Horrible!!!! And expect a parking ticket of a R100 because the parking meter doesn’t work... not good at all!!

Be ready for the quick questioning designed to trip you up and give you a quick denial. They will go thru past travel history and period of stay, how long you intend to stay in the US (length should be related to the funds available to you), work (if not permanently employed theres a high possibility youll be denied), family and their employment and residence, as well as travel partners and much more. Be calm and respond thoughtfully, one wrong thing and you are out. The woman interviewer called me in before the previous guy even had time to open his mouth after being denied a visa. It was the same case with me, once the word denied was out of her mouth she was calling the next person in behind me. For 160USD (which somehow converts to R2360??) it is a total joke.Oh, and there are no toilets, no refreshments, and you have to go thru an insane waiting period outside and then again once at the embassy security. There is no regard for appointment times, so dont even bother being stressed about running late, they do not care either. After getting your visa you still need to get thru immigration in the US, and they are even less friendly especially if you are returning for tourism after previously working in the US.
