Amazing experience of a lifetime. The great varieties of different species of birds are astounding.The show is very informative and loads of fun. Time flies as you spend the day admiring the most wonderful creatures ever seen, many of which are tame and energetic. Perfect for friends and families. This is a lovely family outing. I see that there have been improvements made since the last time we visited ( probably a couple of years ago). Theres more birds and the park is definitely neater than it used to be. We were delighted to find parrots, a mynah and cockatoos who talk! I am not sure if they still have the show though (Covid?) - didnt find out - only thought about it after we left.

All staff including security very kind , friendly and well trained.Learning experience was exciting.Birds well cared for. Seeing birds from different countries added a cherry on top.Whole environment appeared clean and safe.Nice play area for kids. Please make it exciting for them. Suggest a place where they can be quized either electronically or maually.The only negative was that we could not get into one of the cages to see its birds due to the unsafe way leading to it. Hope this will be sorted out soon.

I’ve lived here far too long to not have visited. Pretty impressive flock of birds and decent basic facilities. I’m sure it would benefit though from more support it can’t be an easy or cheap undertaking. The free flight show at 11 most days is a great interaction. Our kids loved that the most. And the staff are great. Support this park if you’re able. Has a tuck shop type kiosk; ablutions; small kids play area and a waterfall 😉. Not sure on costs but we paid R175 for two adults and three kids (4,3,1)

Such a stunning place and a must visit. Must watch the bird show.

Beautiful park. Wide variety of species of birds. But can see the effect of Covid. Funding is a problem to maintain the park. I feel for the stag and management.

My latest experience (10 years) after the first was beyond my expectations. We saw and studied plenty exotic birds. The layout of the park was excellent and the grouping of the different birds well done. Shortly after we entered we had the most gorgeous view of a waterfall. There were plenty benches strategically placed around the park where one could sit down and relax, drinking in the serine atmosphere. Apart from the beautiful birds we also enjoyed the vegetation and beautiful trees around the park.Afterwards we enjoyed a snack with tea after which we left with only great memories to treasure.

Well kept with a wide range of species. The bird show is on at 12 and 2. Coordinate your visit. The waterfall is also beautiful.

This place is larger than expected. A lot of exotic birds. Some I have never seen before. Amazing waterfall feature. I feel there is more engagement needed from the staff with the visitors. The bird show is a bit short but informative. It is entertaining. Will probably go back there after some time. The staff is friendly and looks like they really enjoy working there.

The most amazing place to be❤️Our family left connected more than ever before. This experience was phenomenal. I recommend this place highly, for family adventures. We watched the free flight bird show and it was an experience I never thought I could ever experience in my life.Everything about this place is wonderful.

Great place has always been a fav of mine this place is so awesome I love it just a great place to take my kids and have some fun just this time round I felt like the birds are not looking well kept hence the reason of my 4 stars

The experience was exceptional. The birds are beautiful and well kept and the park itself is well maintained with a gorgeous waterfall feature. To top it off, a bird show with amazing staff and well trained birds. Would recommend this as a must see for the whole family

The park is really nice and there is a wide variety of birds. You are allowed to walk inside some of the in closures and the birds are use to people some of the birds will come so close you can touch them. But dont touch them they will bite.The monkeys run free and if you are lucky they will be feeding and the fotos is really nice. Due to covid 19 there were no bird shows available and that was really sad my kids were really looking forward to the shows. The entrance fee is observation only and the tuck shop/Cafe is really expensive.

Wow wow spectacular display of some very special bird. The show put on by the staff simply out of this world. I need to compliment the staff who did the show. They displayed such care for the birds. As well as they where so knowledgeable about each bird. Kudos.

Definitely a MUST. Just a great park amd excellent staff. The open bird show at 11am is a must see!!

The park is so clean and staff extremely friendly and willing to help at a drop of a hat. Unfortunately the bird show got cancelled 10 minutes into the show due to rain so make sure to go on a nice sunny day. We cant wait to go back.

Always wonderful shows and it help the birds so much to visit. We like to go regularly as our son loves the birds.

We went here on a Saturday afternoon and we enjoyed it, it felt as though we were in a different world. We were surrounded by different species of birds. We let our son play in the play area with swings and jungle gym and then we had lovely sandwiches outside the cafe, it was quiet and peaceful. The toilets were clean and pleasant as well.

...truly a hidden gem. Entrance fee of R58 for adults is so worth it. So much bird life from all over the world. Free flight bird show was amazing. Lots and lots of photos opportunities...charge your batteries and take them along. You will not be disappointed.

Well maintained and very well looked after and run park. A definite must to visit.

This was a lovely park. With so many different birds. Clean and neat paths and enclosures are well kept. Sadly there was alot of litter in the pond. Also if there is rain the bird show is cancelled, so check the weather. However in the afternoon it became overcast and we saw the 2pm bird show, instead of the 11am bird show. Just go visit and check out some feather friends from SA and some international birds that really have the wow factor.

If youre a fan of birds, youll totally love this place. There is a wide variety of birds, including storks, cranes, owls, parrots, etc. There is a Cafe where you can get something to eat or drink. It is extremely cheap to enter here. Id legit recommend this place if youre around Durban. There is also a nice Waterfall there❤️

It is a well kept establishment. It has a good collection of birds. Beautiful scenery. Staff are friendly and courteous. It would be nice to see a larger assortment of birds. There is a place that sells food within the park but I cannot vouch for that as Ive not eaten there.

Stunning! Loved it. Make it in time for their daily shows which are at 12:00 and 14:00 respectively. Lovely host Wiseman will show you a lot about the birds living there. Support them, they need and deserve it.

The bird park needs better maintenance/upkeep, it has degraded a lot since I was last there a few years ago.Other than that they have a great selection of birds.

A well maintained non profit organization dedicated to restoring endangered bird species numbers back to where it should be. It is a beautiful place with alot to experience. Is grate for family outing and will be good for all ages, that said if you like animals and nature. They give free bird shows through out the day that is a nice opportunity to lern a bit of our feathered friends. It is a nice place to relax and also to take some nice photos.

Such a lovely hidden gem in the middle of the city. The bird park has a wide variety of birds from parrots to eagles. The show is worth watching - at 11am and 2pm. Make sure you also get bird feed for R5 to feed the aviary parrots - definitely worth the experience. Also watch out for the Indian miner bird who can mimic 5different voices - be ware this one might sound like people nearby. Definitely worth the experience, ended up spending about 2hours there.

If you havent yet been to the Umgeni River Bird Park it is well worth making a trip there! Something for everyone; be it sitting in one of the enclosures and watching the magnificent and brightly coloured bird life filling the trees around you or even sitting on your shoulder; or walking through and admiring the wide variety of local and international species; spending some time in the nursery with the new arrivals; or sitting having an amazing cappuccino or beverage while the kids play on the swings, jungle gym or jumping castle. A must though is to go watch the bird show. Really a treat for young and old. We went with the family ranging from our 2 year old right through to great granny at 89! We will be back for sure.

I feel sorry for the birds. Very small cages. Dirty walk-in areas. Zoo atmosphere. If locations can’t handle to give decent habitation to animals, they should shut down.

Still a great place to come, thanks to some great renovations in recent years. They also had a jumping castle on a Saturday and the bird show was a lot of fun. My kids had lots of fun looking at all the birds!

Lovely experience walking through the park seeing birds up close. Everything is well maintained and kept. Staff is professional and very friendly. The bird show is something else, very informative and enjoyable and to top it all its free. Well done Umgeni Bird park!

I loved this place.

It was a very lovely outing. Would definitely go again! All the enclosures are clean and all birds are happy. The staff if very friendly and knowledgeable. It is the perfect outing for you and your family, no matter what age will love it. A specially because you get to interact with the animals yourself, it makes the experience even better. Like I said, I would most definitely go again just to support the local studies they do on birds.

Enjoyed seeing all the exotic & really colourful birds I wouldnt normally get to see. The bird show was very interesting and factual.

What a wonderful experience. Definitely go for the free flight bird show. Support this wonderful conservation effort. I didnt know who was more fascinated, me or my daughter. Kids will go crazy for this place.

I would like to rate this place better but the restaurant is such a let down. The coffee was tasteless, as if it were from a machine that had old filter coffee. I ordered the medium plate of chips for R30.00 and I received a small side plate worth. 😂On the plus side the premises is fantastic and the birds seemed well looked after. Amazing variety.

Staff very accommodating and the restaurant was great. The area for the bird show needed Cleaning and the cages could be cleaner. A fabulous selection of birds and the staff are knowledgeable.A lovely morning out and can recommend a 2nd visit.

It was really impressive. They have all kinds of amazing looking birds. Some birds even repeat what you say, and they have this one pink birdie that loves when you rub his chect. Please go and visit this bird park. The animals wil love it. The staff is really friendly to.

Awesome vet. My daughters dog had been spayed here and they were very helpful and caring.

Umgeni bird park is located approximately 5kn from the city centre and is the perfect place for a family to enjoy the bird shows as well as visiting a variety of bird species from around the world. A must see Durban attraction.

Like the Tardis, looks much smaller from the outside. Had a fun Sunday visit, the bird show is well worth it. Facility is relatively well kept and admission is very affordable if you were to take a large family/group.

Always a great visit and a must do. That being said, I remember from previous visits, it used be beter. Still worth a visit and the work done here is still fantastic.

What a great outing, especially if you are a bird lover. The park is neat, the bird aviaries are well-kept and the ladies doing the bird show are informative, funny and very pleasant. Well worth the visit! Oh, and do feed the lorakeets wihh the special juice you buy when you enter - it is a lot of fun!!!

Good family fun. Entrance fee is fair. Excellent collection of birds and hands-on interaction. Birds are well taken care off with stimulating enclosures. Even the coffee shop is well priced to make it extra fun for the whole family.

We were pleasantly surprised upon our visit to the bird park - it is well kept, clean and houses a good variety of exotic birds. The walk-in aviaries are quiet fun and provide an excellent experience overall. The are some spectacularly coloured birds as well as some storks and ducks. The bird show was short but very well done and informative. A perfect place for a Sunday visit with the family.

We visited this sanctuary 4 years ago for the 1st time, it was magnificent.Visited it today, although there is still a vast collection of birds, I do feel though the park is very run down with much maintenance needed. The reception staff were pleasant, but the others seemed uninterested. The Kiosk was closed, so no refreshments available. Clearly Covid aftereffects have taken it toll here too.

Wow.... What a beautiful place to visit..... I definitely didnt expect it to look quiet so beautiful.... Definitely a big difference from the bleak outside to the beautiful inside.

Fantastic place hidden by the river you would never suspect there is such good stuff there. Also had a place you can get food. The atmosphere is amazing. Many interesting birds and facts to learn about them.

A beautiful, amazing outdoor experience, and a perfect way to spend a few hours. There is an outdoor cafe on site as well. Beautiful birds, in natural surroundings, really well taken care of. Worth the visit. The flamingos are something special indeed.
