We have had many happy and very enjoyable stays at Sunnyside Guest Farm. One could not wish for more than what is promised and delivered in terms of wholesome farm cooked fresh meals (three a day plus morning and afternoon tea and delicious scones/cakes), lovely ambience and rustic but very comfortable accommodation. This is as close as it gets to enjoying a family run guest farm as possible. Close to Clarence and Golden Gate as well as other tourist attractions while only being a sedate two hour drive from JHB.

What an amazing experience to visit this beautiful place. Visiting with other guests during 3-course meals and living like the early settlers while enjoying the luxuries of modern day. This is the place where body and soul is knitted together. Thank you Granny Ann for sharing your world with us.

What a wonderful farm, real old school charm. Wholesome food, awesome scenery, especially autumn, my favourite season, so I might be a little biased. Comfortable accommodation, very clean, good bed. 3 full meals a day plus afternoon cake😋

Words cant describe the beauty and homeliness of Sunnyside! Its not just a Guest farm, its my second home. Getting away from the hustle and bustle, it is serene, tranquil and safe. Awesome hiking and walking trails, scrumptious home cooked meals and perfect location - next door to Golden Gate Nature Reserve and Clarens Town. It is engulfed in the valley, tickled by a river and wrapped with age old mountains. A must stay! Thank you Ann Boland for creating this legacy.

Always a good visit. Its like going to visit family. Everything about Sunnyside is lovely.Service, staff, Mrs Bolan, the house, the farm, the food. .... nothing but praise.Remember though this is a farm experience not a five star corporate experience.A trip down memory lane to a time where things were simpler but better.

Amazing Location in the scenic mountains, 3 meals per day which were amazing and very welcoming and pleasant staff. Gorgeous hikes. The only negative was the 2km off road getting in/out the Lodge especially after a heavy rainfall.

Brilliant for an unpretentious farm stay with provided wholesome food and great hospitality. It offers quiet, except the the meal gong is rung, great walks, a double tennis court, and a swimming pool. It is between Clarens and Golden Gate and thus ideally situated to explore both.

Absolutely stunning scenery, friendly host. Rooms are dated, no bar, no ice, no showers, no room fridges, no coffee facilities. Breakfast is 8am sharp. Get to breakfast 30 minutes after 8am and you get nothing. Other guests complained about the breakfast, for instance ladies get one egg, and men get two eggs (and you eat them as they come, soft, medium or hard, good luck). Dinner was a dry chicken drumstick and a few vegetables. 20ml of soup and a milk tart desert. Very disappointing.

Have been going to Sunny side guest farm since I was little and now I bring my kiddies there. Its an amazing place that takes you away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and lets you enjoy waking around, enjoying the scenery and eating amazing farm food. There is no wifi, no TVs and the closest bar is in Clarens so you are truly isolated which is great. If I could Id give 10 stars for this place.

Escape from the Rat RaceMy wife has been going to Sunnyside Guest Farm for the past 14 years. I have been going at least once per year for 5 years.Ann Boland is the Master Mind behind the Guest Farm. She has been running it for over 40 years.People that have complained about service and facilities need to go to a five star establishment and pay three times the price to satisfy their eccentric demands.Sunnyside guest farm has become a Mecca for Artists. Pierneef and a number of other famous artists spend ages there painting the beautiful scenery.Richard Rennie, (unfortunately he passed away last year) started an Art week there 25 years ago. Ann now hosts about 7 Art weeks every year. Even overseas Artists have discovered the gem and are hosting their workshops there.Facilities are not luxury. They are comfortable and totally satisfactory. The food is excellent. The fee includes 3 three-course (at least) meals per day as well as morning tea/coffee brought to your room in the morning, morning tea, afternoon tea and on request more at 9:00pm.The staff has been there for many years. Many are not fluent in English, so seem to be grumpy, but they are always helpful.Until a year ago there was no internet connection or email address for the facility. The farm telephone line could not handle it. Ann is not computer literate. Her receipts are hand written. Any external correspondence was done on a Typewriter and posted at the Post Office in Clarens. This Post Office has closed, so Bethlehem is now the closest Post Office. Fortunately her Grand Daughter-in-law now handles her email.Get away form the Rat Race. Cell phone reception is only reasonable at certain spots if you are lucky to find one. (A lot better last year). There is no television available and internet reception on your phone or laptop is dependent on the Cell phone signal. They have added electric blankets on the beds and a recent addition is underfloor heating in most of the rooms. You can choose a cottage that can house the family. Children can swim, (in summer only. Brrrr!) Children will love the dogs, geese, sheep, cattle and donkeys. There are lovely walks to the river and up the mountain. It was the starting point of the serious Angels Wing hiking trail. It has tennis courts and a beautiful Bowling Green. The Artists paint in the Bowling Green Clubhouse.Just decide to leave the world behind. Turn the clock back 40 years and enjoy an absolutely amazing experience at Sunnyside.
