Bathrooms dirty. The building on the inside needs urgent repairs and maintenance, run down. The guy at the entrance of the venue were very helpful.
We spent an interesting hour at the museum, with a knowledgeable guide. Wonderfully informative displays!
Herschelle welcomed us and it was clear he is pasionate about his job. Very interesting place, well worth the visit
A little bit of history showcasing some of the towns most famous people.
Very good for people of Dutch heritage and beautifully maintained - I would have liked to have seen more of the history of the building as a gaol and more history of the coloured community - for example, Harold Cressys contribution to education in the area. Harriet, the curator, deserves six stars for her informative discussions of the history of the area and for her dedication to educating local children and visitors alike.
The picture is of the very beautiful flower church, the old jail is a cross the road. The museum is worth a visit, and is well kept collection of antique items.
I love the dorp (town) museums. This one lovely display, avoids the clutter of some others, friendly, dedicated, enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff with a pride in their dorp and museum.
Could do more to explain history of Jail house where museum is now based. Friendly staff
A must to visitVery interesting exhibitions
What a lovely place to get to know and understand the history of the area
The Ou Tronk - Old Prison Museum is housed in the old Jailhouse, and whilst it has some artefacts and other of the Jail period, it covers more of the history of Clanwilliam and some of its best known industries such as the Rooibos Tea company, show making, old family trees and personalities as author/poet CL Leipoldt and comedian Tolla van der Merwe. The entrance fee is used for the upkeep of the place and the staff appear friendly although it would help if they give hands on information.
Great place to visit. Harriette and team very friendly
