River place is situated next to the river and all that breeze of freshness and and coolness makes the place a beautiful place to spend your summer afternoon. The waiter was very humble and nice to work with, full of sense of humor. So he made our afternoon very special.

Friendly staff. Breakfast was ok more attention to details required. Ifor example , set table correctly before the food arrives, ensure the food is hot, serve toast at the same time as the breakfast, provide napkins and condiments etc. Beautiful place

Al Fiume is a misnomer for anyone expecting Italian food but with that being said, the food was good and the staff were friendly and attentive. The highlight of the meal was the chocolate mousse. The best Ive ever had. It is like Lindy. Well worth a visit even if its just for dessert. The setting is also nice and relaxing next to the river.

Very nice to sit and enjoy the sun and river. We only had calamari and it was not as nice as i thought it would be. Very little and sauce is sweet.

River Place offers a great day or weekend away from the city. The setting has riiver frontage and is great for events. The food is well prepared and there is a great selection for everyone. Ken the property manager interacts with visitors all the time and highly invested in his service offering. Ivan the saxophonist plays at the venue and he knows his music offering musical selection for all.

Our party of 4 celebrated a special event here. The menu was their dedicated Easter menu (not sure what a general menu would look like). The menu itself was fairly short. There was only 1 meat option which we all had, I.e. the spicy calamari/squid starter which was very good. For mains we decided to explore the options a bit more with each person choosing a different option. We had the gnocchi with pesto option, the twice roasted pork belly, the petite steak with balsamic reduction.and the pork and beef meatballs with linguine. The meats (the belly and steak) were served with the same mash and veg combo while the belly was also accompanied by an apple/sweet chilli, sauce. Overall the food was good and tasty. The mash/veg combo was nothing to write home about. The steak was asked for on a medium rare basic which was a hit and miss as far as consistent cooking is concerned. The pork belly appeared to have been grilled twice. The crackling was crisp but the meat itself appeared to have been sacrificed as well as it was chewy and tougher than pork should be. The meatballs were good but again quite generic. The gnocchi was good. The sauce was tasty but clearly missing the mushrooms that it was advertised to be inclusive of. Despite all of these shortcomings, the ambience (we had a table on the small deck directly overlooking the river), the live music (a saxophonist playing a discrete distance away) and the highly attentive waitron/server who assisted us made for a highly enjoyable drawn out four hour lunch session. If the level of the food was to improve a little bit, this place would tick all the right boxes!!

The deck with river view area where we would have met washed away in flash flood the previous evening. We were not informed, but when we arrived the hosts set us up on the stoep and went out of their way to make us comfortable. Food was good, and the natural surroundings even better.

Stunning little hidden gem. The place is so tranquil, great for a weekend away from Johannesburg. My room was cosy and had air conditioner so thats a win. The restaurant served delicious food too. Would recommend.

We had a lovely one night stay. Our queen room was great and really spacious, and included a little lounge area.The room could have been a little bit cleaner, but other than that, the location near the river and staff were amazing.Overall we enjoyed our stay very much!

Ken, thank you to you and your wonderful staff for your gracious hospitality! La Fiume Restaurant is one of the nicest venues we have been to in the countryside, just mere minutes out of Sandton and a definite top in the most romantic restaurants. We have NEVER had a nicer starter than the calamari that was served...absolutely mouthwatering, the sambal sauce was outstanding! Our mains of fillet and pork belly were stunningly served on a bed of creamy mash set atop beautifully crisp, fresh brussel sprouts, peppers, brocolli, cauliflower, marrows and corn. The fillet was topped with mature parmesan shavings and drizzled artistically with rich balsamic. The pork belly had a dainty serving of a delicious marmalade, a perfect accompaniment. Beautifully presented and delicious cocktails! Such a romantic setting...rock monitors gliding through the water, birdlife an absolute treat, the soothing sounds of the river a balm for the weary souls.

Upon arriving at this 4-star venue, we were greeted by a friendly and professional lady working at River Place, she patiently waited for us to arrive and was very helpful. As a group raising awareness for the polluted rivers, we would like to especially thank Ken and his staff from River Place for three of their best rooms (including DStv, bathroom with a shower and bath, refreshments like coffee and tea and two comfortable neat beds), the breakfast and dinner provided and for being such great hosts by allowing us every possible comfort available.I definitely recommend this Lodge and have to mention that the rooms are also affordable, these rooms have a breathtaking view that will leave you relaxed and revived. River Place Lodge is a function venue and often host weddings and have catered to celebrities as well.The recently renovated roads allow easy access to nearby destinations in the area. You should come here and experience the best that River Place has to offer.

An Oasis which I was lucky enough to enjoy with good friends. Most everything was enjoyable about our meal starting with the restaurant accommodating all 4 of us without reservations with an inviting table under a canopy next to the lazy Hennops river. We sampled one anothers meals and each was as delicious as they look. A new favourite spot..all the sweeter because it was spontaneous.

Quite a walk to the rooms. Keep an umbrella handy if it seems like it might rain, or you will get soaked going from your room to the car.The road from the main road is well kept, but parking is on a sandy, dirty lot.The staff are relatively friendly, but not particularly accommodating if you have any requests (even if you remind them you asked for a bed for a couple on the booking).Very slow service at the restaurant. The breakfast buffet is average; nothing special.A decent enough place to stay overnight for a wedding or other event in the area, but not a good option for a getaway.

We had our daughters wedding at river place yesterday, our guests ranged from young and old, from the wealthy to the man on the street. Wow what a great experience, we did not have to worry or query anything. Everything just fell into place as though there was a dress rehearsal. From the great plated menu, to the smooth service. A very special thanks to Lizelle who planned everything to Ken who quietly ran the show in the background, the chefs who did not miss a beat, even with the variety of steaks ordered. The waiters not mixing up bar tabs whilst doing it all with a smile. The rooms were spotless and finally a breakfast fit for a king. Our sincere thanks, and congratulations, most certainly a big 5 from us.

What a disappointment, not even worthy of one star! I booked a gazebo and a romantic package which was paid for and confirmed days before. I took a very special lady on a first date, and I made it abundantly clear to Debbie, who I made the booking with. When we arrived at 16h30 on Saturday afternoon, absolutely nothing was ready. The flowers that were supposed to go on the table were standing on a desolate table in the restaurant. The gazebo was not ready nor was it cleaned; cobwebs covered the backs of the chairs; cushions still had to be placed on the chairs; the table still had to be set, the gazebo itself is more an army tent without side panels of which the tarp is full of holes… none of which is romantic in my humble opinion. The “romantic package” was also supposed to include a three course set meal, but we had to order from the restaurant menu, and we only ordered mains, no starter and no dessert. What exactly did I pay for, and it’s not as if it was the price of a McDonalds happy meal! I tried to reach Debbie again on the Monday after, with no avail. I left her a message to get back to me, but she never did. Tuesday I tried again, but a very hesitant employee told me that she was not in. One of the managers, Lizelle, returned my call, and offered to look into it and apologized, which I appreciate, but it doesn’t reverse time and give me a second chance to make a first impression, now does it? Never in my life again will I set foot on the property, let alone visit one of their venues.

Little hidden heaven just outside Johannesburg worth of drivibg to, the place offers are great views, tranquillity and peace of mind. The food is delicious and to die for, staff is welcoming and very helpful and the rooms are very clean and spacious with air conditioning. Well dkne

My wedding was a dream came true thanks to River Place Country Estate.We just fell in love with the venue and scenery the minute my husband and I saw it.The food and service was an absolute delight. The waiters were so friendly, the management was always there to help us, and our wedding guests couldn’t stop telling us that the food at our wedding was the best they have ever had.I would definitely recommend River Place Country Estate / Al Fiume to anyone who enjoys great food in a tranquil setting.

I attended a wedding at River Place Lodge this past weekend, and while we were all down at the river celebrating, 4 of our rooms were robbed and ransacked and they took everything they could get their hands on! When the General Manager Ken was called he told his staff to deal with it and that it was not his problem, could not even be bothered to call the police we had to, once the police arrived we were then informed by them as well as the staff that this has happened before, so basically guests are left there exposed to this risk without anyone monitoring the grounds whatsoever, after we found our rooms broken into we assumed there would be someone, anyone to come and say sorry or assure us they were looking into it but unfortunately not a single manager in site!!!! Worse than any of this is the fact that it was absolutely without a doubt an inside job, they knew exactly which rooms had the most valuable electronics in them and hit those rooms, there was no visible forced entry besides a small broken window that not even a small hand could have gotten through! Once we went up to the rooms there was a staff member acting very suspiciously and very defensively walking around in the bushes, the next morning we discovered that someone from the lodge had taken drinks and food to these criminals so not only were they robbing us they were having a tea party at the same time! They also knew that everyone was at that moment listening to speeches and that there would be no one in their rooms! Once the general manager Ken finally arrived the next morning AFTER BREAKFAST he informed us that for all he knows it could have been someone from the wedding party! I am absolutely appalled at how this was all handled by River Lodge and cannot get over how nothing has been done about it! Its so disappointing to me that this is how a very dear friends wedding had to end and that no one was given even a simple I am sorry this has happened to you! You are supposed to take care of your guest yet you seem to be doing the complete opposite!I cannot begin to even imagine how you guys got a 4 star rating, false advertising all over your websites, none of the rooms have TVs like advertised, none of the rooms have fridges like advertised, and conveniently none of the safes seemed to be working, I did not even have hot water in my room!I am absolutely disgusted by River Place Lodge and WILL NEVER RETURN THERE.....

We attended a wedding on the 5 January 19. While enjoying ourselves and dancing. One of our guests went to there chalet only to find out that they had broken into the chalet. All the guest went to check and blow us down all the chalets were broken into. Very disappointing and security definitely needs to be in place as electric fencing only on one side of the property. The way this whole situation was handled by management was very unprofessional.

River Place Country LodgeBeing that time of the year, one could easily dread the big company year-end function if located at a less than savoury location.Luckily for me, our company’s year-end function was held at the River Place Country Lodge This spacious venue slopes down towards the Hennops River and offers conference facilities as well as lovely B&B units.Being greeted by a very friendly (and patient as he signed each person in) security guard at the main gate is always a pleasure and already a prediction of the kind of service which once can expect from this venue. All the staff that we had encountered was very friendly and helpful.The huge deck next to the river served as our location for lunch where we enjoyed a buffet lunch which was freshly prepared, extensive and suitable to everyone’s liking.The waiters were tirelessly serving the guests with drinks and constantly clearing tables and providing clean ash trays for the smokers in the group.I would highly recommend this setting for anyone who needs a venue which easily accommodated a large group of people and provided constant great service at all times.

The setting is exquisite ...on the rivers edge.Unfortunately the food does not measure up to the beautiful surroundings.My birthday was spoilt by the outrages prizes charged and the sub standard quality of the food.The Slanghoek Chenin Blanc ordered was not chilled but warm.The lamb rack at R 240.00 consisted out of 4 very small lamb chops and 4 potato croquettes 2 tablespoons assorted vegetables.My partners fillet medallions was served on mashed potatoe on top of some green leaves for decoration ...the assorted vegetables dresses in olive oil according to the menu, was missing - this came at R 180.00Will never waste my money and time at this venue again !!!

Fantastic venue. We were there for an early dinner after a torrential highveld thunderstorm and the roaring Henops river alongside the restaurant was impressive. Also impressive was dinner -- beautifully presented and delicious. The waiters were very charming and efficient. Well worth a visit.

Tried to phone the restaurant to make a reservation. Neither phone number on the website worked. I probably should have realised then that this was not going to be good. So I made a reservation by email. I received a phone call and email confirmation of my reservation a week in advance. On the night, we drive the half an hour to get to the restaurant, to find that something exploded in the microwave, it looked pretty bad, and that neither the kitchen nor the restaurant were expecting us. There was a buffet for a team building thing... :/ The manager seemed entirely unprepared to do anything about the situation and basically shrugged.So my dad is livid, because its his birthday and we have to find somewhere else to eat, and its late, and Im pretty unhappy by the whole thing. Id avoid this place.

Im very much inlove with AHA River Lodge. As everything is perfect. The place, environment, the customer service is outstanding. From the minute we checked in. Rooms are well maintained and very clean. Not forgetting our super, it was more than perfect. Everything was on point and very delicious. My first night is Super Awsome without any complaints. WOWThank you to the team on duty from us checking in and the waiters they out done themselves.
