Last month, I returned home from a walk on the beach. Since I didnt have my car, I proceeded to enter through the front entrance of my building. As I walked past reception, one of the guards on duty, started chatting to me. At first, the interaction resembled a typical friendly conversation one would have with their security guards in the building, but then things turned astray. The guard proceeded to follow me and talk to me until I reached the lifts. Once in the lift, I pressed my floor to go up to my apartment, and he reacted by slamming his foot in the lift doors so that they would not shut. He then proceeded to repeatedly press the button, which keeps the lift door open while simultaneously asking me extremely uncomfortable questions like: How old are you?, How likely are you to make friends, no wait how likely are you to make NEW friends?. He asked these in an extremely sleazy and sly manner. I responded abruptly and expressed that I needed to get back to my apartment to which he responded: Can I just get a bit more of your time? whilst holding the lift doors open. I refused and pressed the button to shut the lift doors. Thereafter I recounted the incident to my parents.My dad has contacted the security companys manager- Albert, and he has not made any significant efforts to resolve the matter. The guard was given a mere slap on the wrist and is now back on duty in my building. It is evident that this security company values their guards job security over residents safety. I am utterly appalled by this misconduct and by how management has handled this situation. Now, every time I enter my building or go down for a delivery I am forced to cover up with an oversized jacket and get on a call with a friend. I should not feel unsafe in my own building. What will it take for management to respond? Would they rather wait for harassment like this to escalate? Imagine if this were your daughter. Is this how you would like her to feel in her own home?
