When you want seafood you want fresh.. never frozen .. well sized … vibrantYou will get this here for sure …Loved the selection and that you could choose your very own off the ice and have it cooked according to your taste.I found the experience greatThe flavors were subtle and lacked a little seasoning …And of course pricy so don’t look at the prices and expect to pay top dollar.Overall great experience but wouldn’t race back …

We enjoyed having dinner here. We went here twice actually so that says something about our experience. The staff was very friendly and quick. You have a nice view over the sea through the large panorama windows which we enjoyed a lot. Food was delicious, not exceptional but very good value for money and absolutely fresh. On our next vacation were sure well be back to have dinner here.

It was ok but we just weren’t that impressed. We wouldn’t go back. The grilled seafood wasn’t seasoned very well but we also like a lot of flavor in our food. If you’re there strictly for fresh fish without much frill you will enjoy the place. We ate the sushi as well and we’ve had better sushi at other places. We feel it’s overpriced for the ambiance. The furniture is scratched up and could use an update.

I thought your restaurant was a TOTAL RIP OFF.The table salad was very small. The vegetable for 5 adults served on a soup bowl was meagre with 14 chips on the side as an after thought it seemed. We had to ask for a little extra.Fish, I will grant you that, was fresh and well prepared but extremely expensive. When ordered, it was, slapped on a scale, almost out of sight obviously to hide from unsuspecting patrons.Plates, utensils were being cleared even before we had a chance to finish the last bits of food.On top of that I recommend your patrons CHECK YOUR BILLS.A service fee was added to our bill (we had a 2 yrs old child sitting on mothers knee). Before checking we added 10% extra.Very bad taste in the mouth after a nice price of 🐟.

We were recommended this restaurant by almost everyone who knew we were going to Cape Town... and it did not disappoint. Book ahead!+ Honestly some of the best fish 🐟 Ive ever had in my life+ A totally different experience from other restaurants we had been to.+ Almost like a fishmonger mixed with tables (but in a far nicer setting)+ The team were some of the friendliest we had experienced helping at every opportunity and never making you feel rushed despite the place being full to the brim+ Such a great atmosphere and vibe with a definite buzz not only about the food but the way you order and the way its made+ No fuss, no fluff, just straight up great tasting fish cooked simply to let the food do the talking- The price puts it in one of the most expensive places we went to eat, however this might have been because of what we ordered.Id come back here multiple times and various people we recommended it to subsequently did exactly this.

Codfather Seafood & Sushi was my favorite restaurant in Cape Town. It has a very unique answer for you can choose the Seafood items that you would like to eat. You can choose the size cut in quantity that you would like. The chef will cook it up for you and bring it to your table. I recommend checking out Codfather Seafood & Sushi, you wont be disappointed!

Keen to explore sea food restaurants in Camps Bay, a quick Google search threw up the Codfather. The reviews were very positive and encouraged us to pay them a visit. A simple entrance that takes you up a flight of stairs that leads you to a quality culinary experience that involves no menus. Starters are provided from the sushi bar and the main course is selected from the display fridge and then weighed before being fantastically cooked and served. A great wine selection from their house cellar will provide an accompaniment to their fresh, quality sea food. Ocean views are partially obscured but the open windows provide a cool breeze and glimpses of the great Cape views. Warm l, welcoming and informative staff. Definitely worth a visit and will definitely be back.

Definitely my favourite place in Cape Town, so much that we went there twice in three days. The restaurant is fairly small which means it has a intimate feel about it. This is combine with dim colours around the whole place. The restaurant is split into two areas, one for sushi and the other for the open fish market.Diners have greeted by nice staff who are really knowledgeable about the fish and its origins. The fish is priced by weight so you can eat as much as you like or as much as you can afford. The sushi is priced by plate colour.Overall the place is 10 *s from start to fishing. If you are lucky enough to get served by Stuart then you are in for a treat.

The Codfather in Cape Towns suburb Camps Bay was opened in 1998 and has since then become one of the most visited seafood & sushi restaurants in the area. We came across this culinary gem rather by chance - the Codfather does not advertise. You wont find any menus at the Codfather - the concept is based on the selection of the freshly caught fish of the day. If you decide on sushi, you take a seat in the front dining room and sit down at the conveyor belt. As in many Sushi Bars worldwide, the cooks put ready plates (which are priced differently depending on their colour) on the conveyor belt and the guests take away what they like. If, like us, you want to choose something freshly caught from the display cases, one of the experienced waiters at Codfather will take you by the hand and give you detailed advice on your choice. In addition to the various types of lobster & shrimp, you will always find octopus, tuna, mackerel, sardines, gilthead, salmon, swordfish and much more. After we had decided, we had to specify how our seafood should be prepared - raw, fried, boiled or grilled. We decided on grilled, ordering the prawns well done and the tuna steaks medium rare. When the plates arrived there was a shock, because everything was prepared with BBQ grill seasoning salt throughout. The beautiful freshly caught tuna as well as the fine shrimp - well, we ate it anyway, but there was hardly anything left to taste of the freshness or aroma of the shrimp. To make up for this extreme taste experience we distracted ourselves towards the end with a crème brûlée and a classic African Malva Poeding. The service at Codfather was friendly and fast throughout and the atmosphere in the restaurant was cheerful. Even in the upscale Camps Bay the prices are quite high compared to other restaurants, but most visitors dont seem to mind - it is still a hip restaurant.Basically, I enjoyed my visit, but what disturbed me culinary at the Codfather, or generally in Cape Town, is the Braai BBQ spiced salt, which is popular in Africa. The South Africans sprinkle this extremely strong, smoke-flavoured spice in rough quantities over everything grilled - whether it is a slice of freshly caught tuna, shrimps, a dry-aged steak or even lobster - always with it.So, if youre a guest in a grill restaurant or a private Braai invitation, make sure you keep an eye on the spices to be able to intervene if necessary - it was a real shame about the fish. One more thing - you should definitely book in advance in this restaurant, because it is highly frequented, have fun trying it out.Feel free to follow my Google Maps profile, check out my other reviews and be sure to visit foodadvisorblog!

Absolutely amazing restaurant for seafood lovers. They have great selection of fresh fish and prawns of the day including lobsters. There is no menu, just select what you want from the display and it will be ready in a matter of minutes. For starters there is a sushi train where you can grab what you like and bring it to your table. Even though there is some self-service involved you are surrounded by a dozen of super friendly and helpful waiters. Can definitely recommend all the sushi, king prawns, scallops and calamari. To top it off, hands down the best Malva pudding in the world. We were so satisfied with our first visit that even made it back for a second time despite the extraordinary food scene of Cape Town.

You are paying for a novelty in picking out your own seafood. Beware there are no prices until you have picked out food and feel like a fool for two reasons 1. How is this the most expensive bill we have had in all of SA and 2. How do we back out of this?? We didnt and hoped the food preparation would make up for it. The food was flavorless and very average. In addition the restaurant doesnt have a good view. Skip this spot. Save your money and enjoy someplace else with more reasonable prices and better food!

What can I say, it is definitely an experience you need to try at least once.We didnt book so sat in the wine cellar area, which is cosy and secluded from the noise. We ordered our drinks from their very extensive list of wines and then were escorted by the waiter to a glass counter display where he talked us through the different fish they has to offer. Then you choose what you want and they weigh each of the different choices. We chose a platter style presentation for 2 where you have the option of rice and veg or veg and potato wedges. We ordered rice and veg but they served us veg and potato wedges. The potato wedges were amazing and the food was fantastic, it definitely wont disappoint.Note: this can be an expensive restaurant depending on what fish you choose, so be prepared for the total bill price. The experience is definitely worth the price.

Review №46

What a lovely concept! Fish was fresh and delicious and the service was warm and attentive. One thing that felt a little strange was that they take you over to the display and explain the items, and then immediately take your order. I felt I needed a few minutes to look and discuss options with my fiancée without the waiter present. They also dont list how much the cost is per weight before you choose, so you see the price after its been cut and weighed which at that point, felt a little strange to say no. If youre on a budget and not good with math it might be difficult to determine how much your bill is. I asked the waiter how it was served and he said grilled, which I thought meant plain and grilled. It comes with a spice that is lovely and adds nice flavour. You get 4 dipping sauces on the side which were delicious.

Cockroach in the gin and tonic was how the night began.Sword fish tasted rancid and the blue marlin was raw.Glasses and cutlery were filthy, requested a finger bowl to clean them.Food lacked seasoning and the vegetables were overdone and greasy. We have been patrons for years and watched this place deteriorate. The seafood variety has decreased. The interaction between staff members is quite casual and bordering on inappropriate at times. Not sure why hand holding is taking place between them, especially during a pandemic. It is a pay-day night and the place is pretty empty. That should have been the first redflag.

The most incredibly indulgent place for a truly out of this world experience and mouth watering menu. Go with an appetite as you really want to savour this glorious food. From the moment you arrive, you will be looked after and treated like a VIP. You will be shown to your table first and then they will run through the fish of the day with you. You choose your fish from the fridge and pay by weight. The butter fish and prawns were absolutely sublime - so good in fact that we ordered some to take away for our Christmas Day feast and it was heavenly. Sushi is available and is delicious and the garlic butter they serve with the fish is wonderfully moorish too. Kids menu available so basically its everything we could have wished for. I should preface this by saying that I dont even like fish, but it was a friends birthday dinner and she chose the venue.IT WAS SO GOOD!!We ended up ordering a platter for six people, crayfish, lobster, prawns, calamari, butterfish ... plus some sushi. The platters come with greens and chips buried in there as well. There were eight of us eating and no way we could have finished it all.Its pricey, but a fun experience. The staff truly seemed to be a happy bunch, which I think speaks highly or the ownership and management. If I had one complaint, itd be that its very close quarters, but with the popularity of the place, I can see why theyd want to stuff as many tables in there as they could.

One of the best salmon dishes I’ve ever tasted; to the point that we went back after two days & me & my sister ordered the same exact dish. It’s not a usual restaurant. As you sit in; the waiter asks you about drinks & then tells you to go to the showcase fridge & choose what kinds of fish or prawns you’d like, in what quantity, & how much it is cooked. You’re then billed as per the weight of your order. The restaurant is usually extremely busy. In both visits we were squeezed-in between reservations. Better make a reservation before hand if you’re not in the mood for a rejection. Highly recommended.

It gets extremely busy for the 7pm dinner setting. We were glad we opted for earlier dining! Advisable to book and keep to the set seating times you are given. Your waiter will talk you through whats available from the visible selection of well presented fish and shellfish before it is weighed. You can ask for a price estimate before finalizing and they will comply. They were on par with the seafood prices in Johannesburg at fine dining restaurants. Good value for fresh seafood. The scallops were large and delicious! My husband and I chose a selection of 1 small crayfish, 4 Mozambican langoustines and 4 Argentinian King Prawns. They came with an option of rice, vegetables and potatoes wedges. We opted for rice and veggies only and were able to order 3 more langoustines, 2 prawns and 2 scallops afterwards. For drinks, a  beer and a grapetizer. Our bill came to R1716. Arrive early as you may have to scout for a nearby parking spot.

Ill start by saying that the food at this restaurant was absolutely amazing. Its a little pricey by Cape Town standards but very tasty. There was a lot of hype behind this place but we were a bit annoyed with our server as he started telling us about the menu and then simply walked away from the table to chat with another co-worker for several minutes. Further, when we asked him what an average sized portion would be in grams (so we knew how much food to order) he became agitated and evasive. We didnt have any issue with price but were more concerned with getting sufficient food. Finally, when he took us up to the counter to choose our dish, another server kept huffing and puffing and giving us dirty looks because we were taking our time to decide. Definitely make a reservation as this place was absolutely packed when we got there at 9pm.
