We had both our kids - boy and girl, at St Martini and the entire family thoroughly enjoyed the journey. The kids still fondly remember the years at St Martini - and so do I.The kids have been excellently prepared for school and I would strongly recommend the Kindergarten to both German speaking families and particularly to families where the home language is English. My husband and I both speak German at home, our kids are now in Grade 4 and 5 and have not suffered from only starting with English at primary school. On the contrary, we have to pay more attention to them speaking correct German without Denglish slang, seeing that the number of children who are raised bilingual is on the increase. The Kindergarten as a great vibe and, most importantly, our kids had a fantastic time and made a lot of friends from all kinds of backgrounds whilst they were there.

We had both kids in the St Martini Kindergarten for 3 years each and can only highly recommend this school! Both kids were happy from day one and throughout their kindergarten days (in fact, the little one still is…)! The loving and competent staff and the warm and stimulating environment made their journey an extremely pleasant one. There is a strong emphasis on developing good German language skills so that the St Martini children get the best preparation for their transition to the DSK. On that note: becoming a grade 1 schoolkid eventually isn’t much of a big deal for them (more for the parents in fact), and we are ever so grateful to the St Martini kindergarten for this pleasant experience!

A great German-language school with friendly, well-trained staff. Excellent facilities. Importantly, it is also a certified feeder school for German International School Cape Town.

We very much like this Kindergarten because it is a friendly, warm atmosphere; my son loves to go there every day and looks forward to all the special things that they offer such as book day (where they can take a book home from the library), Xhosa and English Kikus (free language training with lots of fun and singing), music, flute, drumming and of course sports such as Playball, Soccer and Tennis - just to name a few. He likes the teachers and the assistants and loves it when the principal comes into the class to play a puppet show. What I as a parent especially appreciate is the fact that I feel my child is really cared for and his needs are attended to. There is a very low tolerance for bullying and if problems in this regard appear, everybody works together to help all involved. The kindergarten offers interesting talks for parents on one or two Saturday mornings per term (called Hand in Hand) and these are organised together with the church. If you are looking for a Kindergarten where you want to enrol your child to for a few mornings while you are on holiday in Cape Town, St Martini is offering this to German speaking children (depending on availability).

Great creche, in the middle of town where you would not expect it, with a large outdoor area and separate child-friendly classrooms and bathrooms for all of the five classes taking from 3-year olds to pre-school. All teachers are bilingual German-English, and the creche offers full and stimulating aftercare till 5 pm and holiday care - a God-send for working parents. There are lots of additional extramurals to sign up for, such as ballet, recorder, music, playball etc.

My three children (alle Münchner Kindl!) have gone through St. Martini and I think/hope I can give a realistic and helpful review. What I appreciate about St. Martini:- When I drop the kids off, I feel like they are in good hands. It is a secure and safe environment. Even if Im not wild about a particular teacher personally, I have no doubt that they are capable educators and are kind to my children.- As a working mom, I really appreciate the fact that I can book my kids until 5pm. The booking options are very flexible so you can choose the time that fits your schedule best. The Aftercare team is amazing and you feel the love, care and the interaction with the parents.- Extracurricular activities. In the USA we coined the term soccer mom for any halfway decent mom. You need a proper van and completely free afternoons so you can cart your kids (and their friends) everyday from one extra-curricular activity to the other. The two children I currently have at St. Martini participate in soccer, music, ballet, flute, playball and tennis...and I dont have to drive them anywhere. They are all offered privately at the kindergarten.- KIKUS English has really helped make my three Münchner Kindl bi-lingual. And thanks to KIKUS Khosa, they can now sing Freres Jacques in 5 languages! Plus they know a lot of words and phrases in Khosa. The best part is that the KIKUS courses are free.- Largely because of the close collaboration with the German School, the Pre-schoolers are well-prepared for the school curriculum whether they are planning to attend school at the DSK or back in Germany.- I find the teachers, staff and office management quite friendly. Even when theres a misunderstanding or disagreement, I find that they are quite willing to find solutions and accommodate parents on a case-by-case basis.I would say that my only gripe is that the kindergarten fees have been on a steady for the last couple of years. However, in a country where teachers and caretakers make next to nothing, we understand and accept the increases...because we know its going into the right pockets. Afterall, each local, non-German speaking caretaker who is given a post at the kindergarten is given the option to go through language and child development training so that there isnt a big staff turn-over at the end of the day. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. St. Martini is money well spent.

There is no website. What are the fees for a 3 year old?

The church bells are unnecessarily loud and the tune chaotic. Everyone in town knows Sunday is church day, there really is no need to remind us in such an abrasive manner so early in the morning.

Great kindergarten! Our two kids were there and still miss him. And he reminded me of my own kindergarten. Very lovingly and in a nice way old-fashioned. We recommend!

Search a happy place! Our kids love it. Our children were or are still in St. Martini kindergarten. We decided to go to the German kindergarten because we want our children to grow up bilingually. Initially, they spoke almost exclusively English, but after a few months at KiGa, they also spoke fluent German (the language support program KIKUS is taught by trained educators, funded by the Siemens Stiftung Munich). There are many AGs from the sports and music area offered (for a fee), as well as KIKUS English and Xkosa. The opening hours from 7:30 am to 5 pm, the possibility to book lunches and the offered holiday care are a relief for working parents. Our Great One was excellently prepared for the transition to the German International School Cape Town. The best thing about the St. Martini kindergarten, however, are the wonderful educators who look after the children with such love and care.

We were very disappointed with St.Martini and the responsible staff. Extensive reactions to actually minor problems led to a complete loss of confidence, so that we left the kindergarten after only three months.Just to explain one of the negative experiences: unlike the beautiful classrooms that we were shown on the introductory tour, the classroom of our 3y daughter had no toilet. The children had to walk down the corridors and use the staff toilet which was not suitable for children. For washing your hands there was a tub with soapy water, because the sinks were unreachable for the little ones. The real problem, however, was that the kindergarten management not only did not take our requests for this and other issues seriously and downplayed them, but ultimately made them our own issues. So we were the question of the lack of hygiene of the Büttenloesung in the toilet replied that this has not caused any problems. We were advised that our child should simply not wash their hands there anymore. The St.Martini management was so convinced of the righteousness of their doing that we had to accept 3 months penalty (due to untimely termination on customer request) for one of our two children.Due to our experience we can not recommend this kindergarten. He gives alternatives in Bellville and Blouberg.
