THALI was definitely my favourite restarting this trip. I ordered the vegan tapas for one which was incredibly tasty. Bursting with flavour and perfect level of Spice which was nice. The portions are large and I had leftovers for breakfast. then went again later in the week and I had leftovers for breakfast yet again! Wow!
Atmosphere is sophisticated without being stuffy. Good for dates, big occasions and ok for older children. While I loved the slow food concept, the presentation and the outdoor patio, we werenโt a fan of a number of the dishesโ each course had something delectable and something mediocre. Itโs a set menu so not for picky folks. I did not like the old fashioned. The cinnamon or spice overwhelmed the cocktail. It tasted very much like American style cinnamon gum. On the other hand the curry salt condiment was fantastic.
One if the fabulous Chef Warehouse brand.Beautiful cozy chic ambiance. The food is just unbelievable. A firework of flavours. Had the tika chicken kebab, the venison (quite spicy) and duck with a whole naan and pilau rice. Excellent and friendly service (Eddy). Will definitely come back very soon.Came back in September 2021. Was as delicious and full of flavors
First time and was absolutely brilliant. Been on my checklist for long, long time but finally made an excuse to go last night. The smells just draw you in from the word go! Bustling kitchen and food is ordered and comes out just as quickly!(Love the chicken skewers in mini tandooris which smoke away and add to the theatrics of the vibe spot.)An Indian tapas restaurant with set menu which comes in the form of a sharing platters with numerous courses. We opted for a different wine with each course and must say the selections of wines are also varied, niche and something to suit each pocket.Too many gorgeous dishes to mention but highlights were the crispy deep-fried spinach leaves with tamarind, the kerala duck curry and the seafood curry- all absolutely gorgeous and sumptuous on the chilly night. We ended off with the Chocolate bonbon selection and some coffees and Chai teas, a brilliant night out with excellent service. Definitely one for the winter nights coming up!!
No options..set thali menu that too one thali for vegetarian and overly priced
COVID 19 spreading Hotspot. No distance at all. Lack of precautions.Beside that, this restaurant cooks everything except Indian. The fact that Thali is owned by the Chefs Warehouse group makes me quite sad, than the other restaurants are exzellent.Food is terrible and the service is more than overwhelmed unskilled and slow.Sorry
Gluten free was super easy here, only one substitution that I noticed. Great cocktails.
Awesome atmosphere and culnery experience. A must for foodies that love tasting menus
The food is absolutely delicious, loved the mix of flavours used...a truly unique Indian-inspired food experience. There are 3 courses, packed with lots of food, I actually would have preferred the last course to be a fresh and light dessert as opposed to having a whole other curry presented...but thats just a personal preference as I felt there was too much food, amazing food though regardless. The restaurant setting is also really charming and completely unexpected from what you see outside.
Thali serves excellent Indian tapas. You get a set menu, which is a platter for two. The portions are generous, the flavours are amazing, and the heat is perfect for a moderate palate. A variety of condiments are included for added spice and heat, if desired. There is a good selection of wines and a large selection of cocktails. The restaurant is very cozy and the service is great. We will definitely be back again.
Amazing place, excellent staff, they are on the ball. Food was amazing, great value for money and Iโll definitely be going back. Thank you for a lovely evening.
The food -- served as tapas for two -- is incredible but it was just a little too much. We could barely finish the lamb curry at the end but luckily we could take it home. The service is excellent and the outdoor area is lovely. They dont take reservations but theres lots of space. Get there early though because it fills up fast.
Wow.I was overwhelmed by this place. The waitstaff was fun and casual, the pace of the food deliberate, and the food itself... oh, the food....It is a prix fixe meal, so be warned. That said, everything was amazing, from the presentation to the varied spice-filled tastes to the quantities. Iโm a big eater, and I was stuffed. The food was so good I finished it anyway. More gym time tomorrow, but worth it!Itโs one of the more expensive places Iโve eaten at in Cape Town, but Iโll be going back. Highly recommended!
Great atmosphere and lovely staff. The food was really good but was incredibly hot - would have been nice to have a mild /hot option in the beginning. Very over priced for what you get.
We celebrated my sisters birthday at the private room but the service was slow and not nice attention, the private room was very hot with no air and the ambience was pretty death. The food was not amazing, and everything was too spicy so we couldnt enjoy the flavour and tastes because it was too spicy. The one and only who was very caring and kind was the server AYANDA.
First of all as you enter into thali, you get that home welcoming feeling by only the authentic look and vibe of the restaurant and the chef even made it even must better. He even became my inspiration of the day, as he has spoken to us with such kind and humble words that I am going to take with me for every minute.
Amazing Indian cuisine. I love that reservations are not required (not accepted). The food is prepared to share between 2 so perfect for couples groups. The menu changes fairly often so if you wait a bit betweem visits you will always have a unique experience. Options for meat lovers, vegetarians and vegans.Lovely decor in the courtyard and bar area adds to the ambience and completes the experience
I am a huge fan of Liam Tomlinโs restaurants. His attention to detail love of the restaurant industry is why I will continue supporting him. So, of course, it was a no-brainer to have dinner at Thali during my recent staycation in Cape Town.Thali is chef Liamโs take on Indian tapas. Itโs not traditional but inspired by the regions and flavours of India. The smells, flavours and tastes are indescribable. Thali is not only beautifully decorated but also has amazing employees and the most deliciously memorable meals. I absolutely enjoyed dining at this restaurant and will for sure be supporting them more often during the winter season! It truly is the best Indian Restaurant in Cape Town.
Have been many times over the past few years. Always a wonderful, new and unique experience, with different flavours. And Iโve never left hungry ๐ Cocktails are wonderful, too!
Unbelievable flavours. Fantastic experience. A must for curry lovers.
Amazing dining expericene in a nice, cozy atmosphere. There is no menu to choosefrom but you get a three-course dining menu prepared by them (accomodating vegetarian and vegan options). We had a vegetarian menu which was excellent, wine and service were amazing as well. Do not expect the โclassicโ indian food but rather a modern form of extremly tasty indian flavoured food!
Such tasty food. We each had the set menu platters. Everything was scrumptious. Massive portions though. I think one set menu is enough for 2. Looking forward to going back!
We had a mixed experience at Thali, but on the whole we enjoyed ourselves. The first two courses were absolutely delicious! We started with a vegetarian platter filled with interesting flavours. The second course was a line-fish sashimi with cooked mussels and this was spectacular. Maybe some of the best seafood Ive had in a while. The final course were two curries, which were technically brilliant - soft meat, glossy sauce - but lacked in flavour. There are other more affordable places where you can get better curry in Cape Town. They have a lovely drinks and wine collection, however they do the fancy restaurant thing where they take your wine bottle away and top it up as needed. Unfortunately they completely forgot about us and we had to ask twice for someone to refill our glasses. The waiters also seemed quite flustered and lacking in confidence, which I think is a training/capacity issue. Thali should either halve the number of people they serve, or double the waiting staff. In summary, I think its a fun restaurant to try and I would recommend going (there is the potential for a wonderful experience), but I dont think we will be returning.
Amazing Indian tapas! Definitely worth it โฆ no reservations so make sure you grab a seat
Really good Indian fusion.
Superb food and amazing service. A must for anyone who loves indian food.
Absolutely amazing food! Would like to see more wine options.
Fantastic experience, the place was packed when we went - wonderful atmosphere. Watching the kitchen work was exhilarating! The food was divine - highlights being the starters, mussels and sashimi. The mains: the lamb curry seriously needed salt. It also become quite a rip off for the 3rd person - an additional R400 for only 1 dish extra per course. Overall we had a wonderful evening!
Exceptional food and eating experience. Highly recommended
Absolutely amazing culinary experience โค ๐. Its a massive amount of food for two people, probs better if done in a larger group too. We simply loved the setting, and the cocktail many leaves one spoilt for choice too.
My husband and I both visited from out of town for lunch and enjoyed the vegetarian thali for 2. We were served 3 large thalis eached filled with so many flavorful, warm, delicious foods. We eat indian food quite often, and we both agreed that this was our all time favorite restaurant- we only wish you guys were in Florida ! I would highly recommend a visit to this restaurant !
Always the best food
The food wine ambiance and staff at this Indian Restaurant were wonderful. The menu changes but these were our choices.
Everything here is fantastic every time. Food, staff and atmosphere. A magnet of good energy.
Amazing. Service food wine friends top draw
Amazing food, lovely presentation & the kiwi & green tea mojito is to die for!!! Your in for a treat!!
Excellent service and delicious food.
We enjoyed an excellent Indian food experience. Great atmosphere, with good service and knowledgeable staff.
As always, great service and excellent food!
Nice scenery and decent service. Personally I find the menu quite limiting and expensive to the point I cant really justify recommending this experience. There are plenty of better options in the area.Unless you are a die-hard fan of Indian fusion (sashimi is hardly a part of their cuisine), would probably do my research before making the decision to try Thali.
Wow! What flavour. This place was truly amazing. They were really accommodating to our mixed veg/Omni diets and everyone was pleasant. A nice evening out.
This was one of the nicest Indian food experiences Iโve ever had. Interesting combinations of flavors, textures and tastes in a sharing format for 2.
EXCELLENT!! An authentic experience in the Mothercity not to be missed.
I was very pleased with my lunch here. It wasnt the cheapest meal I had, but the wait staff was very attentive, the plating of the food was well done, and more importantly, the food was delicious. Highly recommended.
A wonderful dining experience from start to finish - ambience, food and service. I love Indian food and decor but this was out of this world.
Excellent. A diffferent kind of indian food.
Excellent vegan and gluten-free Tali. There was a lot of food. We did not go hungry! Amazing staff as well.
Amazing food. Loved the private dining room. Definitely going back !
Thaalis special meal is tasty and good value for money. Customer service is also good. Place is clean. Highly recommend this ppace.
Nothing bad to say about Thali. A wonderful experience (also very vegan friendly)
The best Indian fusion food I have ever tasted.
Excellent tapas fusion style Indian restaurant from the owner of Chef Warehouse. Left feeling very satisfied, many interesting tastes.
Great menu even for vegetarians. Loved the food except for the last curry course. Felt it lacked depth of flavor but the other courses we really fantastic and deserving of very high praise.
Probably the best Indian food Ive had in my life. There is a set menu, which is kind of great because you dont have to choose. All the small dishes were delicious.
Came here for dinner last night and was fully intending to leave a 5 star review, the food was delicious (the first course in particular was amazing) however my partner woke up in the early hours with horrendous food poisoning, and we can only put it down to the cured trout dish - the only thing I didnt share (and the only thing she ate all day that could be at all suspicious). Such a shame as we genuinely really enjoyed the place otherwise :(
LOVE the food. Love the service. Excellent relaxed place for amazing Indian fusion food. Highly recommended. Iโm so full Iโm going to roll downhill back to my apartment now. ๐คช
Amazing food
Incredible food (especially the sweetcorn fritters, the dahl and the trout ceviche) โ and excellent service from Luke! A dinner to remember! Thank you.
Wow what a surprise. One of the best taste sensations iv ever experienced. Keep it up
Great combination of flavours and lovely presentation.
Ups: great service and portion size is filling. Downs: Set menu is ridiculously expensive for Indian food that you can get with better flavour at eastern food bazaar.Wine selection poor. Feeling ripped off after paying the bill. I expected more. Especially with the preparation of the food and the flavor. Definitely not authentic Indian food.
No amount of words can express the tasty and exotic food that was served!! Ill definitely go back for more when Im next in CT!!
Loved this place. Peaceful and beautiful restaurant with amazing kitchen.
Thought the whole experience was very good, service really good. Way too much food, also overpriced. With the set menu it is fairly conveyor belt style. Possibly a reduced more flavourful menu, bringing the price down a little bit.
One of my bew fav spots in Cape Town. Kitchen is always amazing. Fresh food, great service.
Definitely the best indian food in Cape town.
Such lovely food and culinary experience! Would highly recommend this place, the food was delicious and great vibe too! They dont take reservations, so good to head early or alternatively enjoy the wait for your table at their lovely bar!
Been here a several times over the past few years. Regrettably went from one of my favorite places for a special dinner, to thinking twice before going or recommend. It somehow managed to be packaged tour/conveyer belt/tourist trap. Little innovation on the menu over the years. Lost flavor and charm. The last time service was slow and messy. Really unfortunate- expect more.
Absolutely amazing. Nice atmosphere, and the food was amazing, bar the two fish dishes (not my favorite). The food is so flavorful without being too spicy (burn factor is low), Absolute must! Service was friendly and great. They serve a set menu of 8 different tapas(you will not leave hungry at all) to share for two people.Dessert is separate, not a fan of the dessert options or the boeber we had.
Wow thats some lovely food. Great service and mellow music too. You dont get to choose what you eat, but most of us wouldnt choose as well as they have. (But there are options for veggies etc.)Round after round you get lots of tastes of different flavours, and it a substantial meal compared to other tapas places. Absolutely delicious, excellent.
Brilliant food and service
