When I heard Roy Mitchell was in the kitchen I just had to go and have a bite. I have been eating his food in various restaurants over the past 30+ years and have never been disappointed. The man is a genius! Exceptional steaks and Seafood, and his sauces are to die for. Highly recommended.

Location is perfectly downtown.Nice vintage and safe.Dave is really funny, nice and available for anything you ask him! There is airport shuttle! He also give us a welcome free drink !However I can’t give more than 3 stars because of the condition of the sheets in our room. They look very very dirty !I understand this is an hostel but sheets have to be cleaned! Also the toilets weren’t really cleaned too.I understand I checked in the 1st of January after new eve maybe this is why cleanliness wasn’t so good.No fan or air conditioning!I would recommend this place for a one night stop but not more than that !Thank you Dave

Down to earth, not a pretentious bone to the place, affordable, great and friendly staff, an updated and refreshed bistro / coffee shop with great specials. The Kimbo attracts a wonderfully off-beat (in the very best sense of the word!) crowd across all ages... Theres also a jukebox, sometimes live music during the week, and great complimentary black olives and popcorn! One of my fave places in all of Cape Town, and historic to boot!

The rooms did not appeal to me as they looked on the website. I nearly canceled when I got there..... But the the reception from manager Leandra, has made me see the place with a different eye. She is warm and welcoming. She made us feel at home and we have been in 5 star international branded hotels before our stay here, but the atmosphere here was superb. We are definitely coming back, if the lady is still here.....She made us feel at home with her sense of humour and friendliness......We love her, we love Kimbo lodge....

An
Review №35

Cheap but not cheerful. I hated that the ensuite toilet and shower were actually in the room with nothing but a small flimsy screen for privacy. Its no fun watching your husband or wife sitting on the toilet. The room had no air conditioning and if the widows were left open at night then the smoke from the bar below wafted into the room. It was noisy from the local clubs and bars especially on Friday and Saturday night when the noise carried on well into the small hours, 3.00am to 4.00am. The meagre breakfast was OK but with no choice and took ages to arrive once ordered and served by miserable staff.

This hotel is good, clean and cheap. Dont expect any luxury since its very old and a backpacker accommodation. But its reception, sitting room and balcony are nice and comfortable. Nice people working there. The place to meet other backpackers or having passionate conversations with manager Dave. Of course only if you want to. Besides a bar on the ground floor and simple breakfast in the little neighbor bar. Only half an hours walk to Waterfront. Would go back in future.

Great place to socialise with mature adults after a long day at work. On Saturdays you will find students hanging out. Sundays are super chilled and the music is great if you enjoy the golden oldies. Oh and did I mention that the bar lady is so beautiful. Check it out

Review №38

Where do I begin?????Firstly the table we were sitting at was filthy and there were flies all over. We ordered chicken wings and chips. We were sitting opposite the kitchen and could see everything being prepared. The kitchen was filthy, ingredients left open on the counter while flies buzzed around. As the chef was preparing our meal, he was busy licking his fingers and touching our food. The chicken was clearly not freshly prepared, it was leftover and was just rolled in some barbecue gravy. The only thing that was edible was the chips! I was really disappointed.

Friendly down to earth staff , hosting a refreshingly unpretentious atmosphere. This historically renowned landmark is rumoured to be of the first buildings to go up in our now very developed CBD district. The cozy bar with music videos playing on all the screens make it impossible to not sing along . Affordable prices and good value for money.

Co
Review №45

Situated on a very busy crossing. The vibe is nice. Since this is Cape Towns oldest bar, the decor is a extremely scruffy and not at all maintained but that probably just adds to the character that makes this place special. The staff are at home here, and they will make you feel at home. They do not serve craft beer (unless you count Jack Black as craft) because they want to stick to their roots instead of following the trends and go with the flow.

Waitress Nemeka takes my full glass of freshly poured tap beer n pours it down the drain claiming it aint mine. I paid for it 5 minutes earlier with her male colleague. Video footage shows that she poured my full beer down the drain in front of me just to be spiteful. Video footage proves i paid n drank from the glass minutes before she went on her own mental trip

Even though the owner is very nice, it is not a really good place. The building is very old and you can hear people walking around the building. The decoration is very bad taste, and there’s is a pub downstairs where the music it so loud that you can hear from the rooms two tops above. The stairs are very hard to climb if you’re carrying heavy gear.

Very cool old school place x you get what you pay for .. meaning if you’re expecting a boujee hotel you’re not going to be satisfied but if you’re expecting just a place to come and rest after a long day of walking Capetown streets it’s exactly what you’re looking for. I didn’t have anything stolen bc I left everything in my lockers so make sure to constantly check and lock up all your belongings-to the people stressed about that because of the last review where the guy claimed they stole his camera - I really don’t get it tbh if it was in the locker it wouldn’t have been stolen. Everything was relatively clean as well no major off puts .

4 stars for the dodgy bar, not for the faint-hearted, long opening hours. This is where you come to watch a game or have a drink and dont want to dress up :-) Nice balcony on top. Gambling machines in the back ;-) In case youre wondering about the 4 stars: Im rating it 4 stars in the dodgy bars category cause its cool and Ive had plenty of fun partying here. Dont compare these 4 stars with a fancy place that got 4 stars, this is definitely not one of them.Cant say anything about the food or their rooms though.

The bar and venue was decent but a friend and I had the worst experience from one of the bartenders who completely lost it because we used the wrong bathroom. It was frightful! The other person on duty (Josh) seemed to agree fully that it was okay for her to shout at and threaten us so I take it they typically deal with rougher crowds. I wouldnt recommend should you expect to be treated like a human being.
