As a medical student I didnt know that I could do my elective in this department, and once I was accepted I was over the moon.The doctors are all so warm and welcoming, they make you feel like you form part of the team/family. All the registrars were so helpful and eager to teach, and they are brilliant teachers at that.The work that the team is doing is beyond phenomenal. They allow you scrub in and participate in all the surgery, as long as you are keen. The work environment is to die for, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to have worked with such top notch surgeons.To top it all off, the way the Drs treat their patients and the other staff (nurses etc) is something to note. They are very respectful and kind, as well as appreciate for the efforts of the staff. With regards to patients, the Drs center their entire treatment plan around the patient and all the factors that could be possible impediments. They want the best outcome, aesthetically and in terms of health, for their patients and they dont rest until they attain it.So as a student or a patient, rest assured that you are in the best hands.

I have just completed a 2 week elective in plastic surgery at Tygerberg hospital. It was truly an amazing experience and I learned so much in a short period of time. The Drs are incredibly friendly and accommodating, which make it such a happy working environment. They are all so dedicated to their work and this can be seen with the excellent results. I am seriously interested in pursuing plastic surgery as my specialty of choice in the future, thanks to this department and all that they have shown me. To the Drs, thank you all for making us feel so welcome and taking the time to teach us. I hope to return soon!

Good Day AllI was a patient at Tygerberg not too long ago. A month ago in fact. I had a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. The mastectomy was done by the Breast & Endocrine Department and the reconstruction was done by the Plastics Deaprtment. I would like to thank the doctors of the Plastics Department for the care they have provided leading up to my surgery, during my stay in hospital as well as the after care I am currently receiving. To say I received good service is mild to moderate, but I would like people to know that if I had any doubt as to what my experience would be like, please know that EXCEPTIONAL is the word I would like to use today. Every appointment leading up to my surgery was handled with care. I was well informed about every little detail and the doctors answered any questions or concerns I had in a professional and friendly manner. I felt comfortable and could speak to them freely. Even amidst the pandemic you would think that the doctors would be cranky and their moral would be low, but not the people that worked with me. The surgery was a huge success and what the doctors might not realise is, they gave me a part of my life back that was lost to me for so long. During my stay in hospital, every visit by my doctors was done with enthusiasm, friendliness, passion, care and professionalism. Never once did I feel mistreated or that they considered me as just a job. They treated me like they knew me. I have to say the experience renewed me as these people love what they do. When I walk into the hospital now they know exactly who I am and stop, even if it is just to say hello and ask how I am doing. This is what you call humanity. Living for others.To Dr Alex and team, please know how grateful I am for everything that you have done and continue to do for me. You are truly an amazing team and I wish you all the best.
