I refer to it as a student corner. Mornings and afternoons are good. I love their breakfast special. Evenings are not that wonderful as the vibe changes from restaurant to a lil bit of club. As a food lover, I pay a lot of attention to the service delivery, and the last time I went to get dinner l was not so pleased.

Not only did the place allow people to smoke inside but the pizza was garbage. I have never in my life has such terrible pizza. Atleast the beer was fire but wow, we left straight after because everything about it is dogde.

Ive tried a few items from their menus and so far the service has always been good. Ive had the supper club sandwich numerous times and sometimes it comes with salad and fries (each picture of the supper club sandwich is a different visit) And other times just salad. The hazelnut latte is pretty good.

Really nice food, decent prices, good vibe. Definitely worth a visit especially to take advantage of their specials. 4 stars only because I feel like the wait staff could do better, a cheerful greeting and being told the specials goes a long way.

The place is dirty and needs to be cleaned, the tables and chairs are more often than not just dirty and unsanitised.

I have travelled around the world and know what service entails in line with restaurants and I can honestly vouch that Down South Food Bar is by far one of the most true experiences I have had with customer service!!! Way over priced for what we got. Ordered a salad and got chips. Chips were cold, and stodgy like they microwaved them. The portion was OK but not worth the price at all.

We went out for happy hour. As advertised on their happy hour menu - 1/2 price from 5-7pm. There were nothing said about certain drinks being excluded. Not on the menu and not from the waitress. When the bill came. We were changed full price for the craft beer and a 20% discount for our other beers. This should have been pointed out from the start.As a plus the food was really good and the portions sizes were large.

About as nice and simple a bar that also makes some tasty super meals can be. You can have Sunday lunch with your dad or watch the soccer game with your mates.. My go to place Monday to Sunday ✨

The food is very nice but the service is a joke very bad very slow I called to book for a table outside was assured I would get it but I didnt it took 35 minutes to get a cocktail the waiters and waitress all running around even to get a bill it was a struggle

This place is nice and chilled for everything. Wanna have a drink alone and watch football? Wanna have a formal meeting over a meal? A date? Ive even been here with a group of around 20. The service is great and the food is good too. I especially love their ribs and salads.

Bad experience after a nice outing with my friend when I dropped my wallet on Sunday and all my cards were on the floor and unfortunately my id card fell inside the wooden floor as it open and I was told that they will try and help me out but now all am getting is its not their fault that my id card fell inside and the manager in charge told me yo get a driller and come to the shop they will help me out to take it out am so confused now now because am in this situation now all because their floor is not in good state and am desperately in need of my ID card

The wings, burgers and nachos are to die for! Great variety in alcohol. The staff is amazing. It is an all-round good environment. Definitely worth a regular drop by! :)

My girlfriend and I ordered a spicy chicken pizza and was served with a pizza that wasnt well presented, over spiced and the pineapples were mushy . I even ended up coughing because of the spice. I complained to the waiter about it and he then got his manager. The manager then questioned me and asked me exactly what is wrong with the pizza. I explained to him exactly why we were unhappy a out the pizza and went on to say that both me and my girlfriend felt that we shouldnt pay for the pizza. He said he wouldnt bill us for the pizza. He then returned to us with the menu and explained to us that we had ordered what they gave us. I know what i ordered but i was still unhappy about the food they gave. I wasnt happy with the fact that he had to come back to us with the menu, pointing out what we had ordered and making us feel like we didnt know what we ordered. I got a bit upset and asked if hes doing this just because i told him that i dont feel like i want to pay for the pizza. He then said no and agreed to not bill us. Both me and my girlfriend sensed that he had attitude. I enjoyed the rest of the food and had no problem with the waiter but i really did not like being patronized by the manager and the attitude he had towards us.

Well priced one of our frequent family favourites ..sports bar...great for drinks and snacks.. breakfast ...decent size portions... great coffee ...always a drink special for those not driving... eg 2 for 1 dbl vodka ...beer on tap and great mocktails too

Awesome vibe. Love the unique decor. Randomly noticed the place and sat down. Just missed the breakfast window so we chilled till we could enjoy lunch. I Had the tequila burrito and loved every bite. Husband enjoyed his ribs and friend loved his burger and chips. Staff are friendly. Quite popular with the students. Great place.

The service is amazing, the waiter has great recommendations. The food is well cooked and not what you would expect from a bar. I was totally blown away.

Good service, the burgers are really awesome. On Tuesdays they have a burger special, you get two burgers for the price of one. The Atmosphere is great especially if you want a cozy chilled weekend with your friend to watch some football, rugby, tennis etc

A must visit! A viby place with good food, good music and exceptional waiters. The bar area is on the side and cater for every drinking preference. There are seating on a balcony as well as private booths. There burgers are simply the best in town.

Great food their nachos are definitely the best around no doubt about that. Place has a good vibe and great with friends. It can get abit loud in the area but if you can ignore it go for it.

Always a great place to either come dine with friends or enjoy buying yourself a drink with a stellar view of the mountain during the day. Also a great place to watch games with TVs placed everywhere for your viewing

I wanted to edit my post and be a bit more specific on my 5 star rating. The BEST pizza Ive ever eaten. I always have the Bravo, bacon, feta and avo. The avo comes as guac on the side. Seriously good pizza.

Sure, I can explain the one-star rating.Bottom line is the waitrons are NOT attentive.I have to try 4 of 5 times to grab their attention to place an order, even when the shop is NOT busy, or I have to ask multiple times for things to be brought to the tables (e.g serviettes, condiments).This happens everytime I visit Down South for a meeting.I even have to get up to go to the cashier because the bill takes too long to arrive.Do better!

Usually the food is delicious but the last time i went the ribs were hard and and wings were very tiny. I feel like it was leftovers from someone else.

A colleague and I stopped here for lunch. We celebrated the 2 for 1 burger special with our choice of the Mexican. The upstairs bar/restaurant is not prestine but good enough for a lunch and drinks and has a great view of the mountain. The service was decent. The burger was of good quality but lacked sauce hence also lacked flavour.

What a wonderful experience today in the down south gastro pub in Rondebosch. Great homely service. The energy levels of the staff and the manager are fantastic. Awesome to behold them working in unison to make this the best spot to catch any sporting event. The food was fabulous. The cocktails are worldclass. Thank you guys and girls.....
