It is a nice Gyn, buy the equipment is getting old. The weights from 12kg and down, i think only one set of each left and most broken. A bit hard to follow routine, in a busy Gym like this.
Not a flagship gym but the staff more than make up for that. Polite and always available to assist. Equipment is somewhat outdated and the showers, change room and lockers require modernizing. It might not be the best equipped gym in the Virgin stable but you are guaranteed a clean environment in which to train.
I went for vacation at this location and the staff are personal, efficient, fast and still professional, considering the amount of people passing through their.Good work I say to them.
Went to Virgin active N1 city for my Covid vaccine. Great service, clear demarcation and directional signage. All staff working at the vaccine station were great, not one employee/medical staff with a bad attitude. Was such a pleasure to be served by all the staff present on that day.
Last night I had a poor customer service experience at N1 City. I feel we all should try to make the experience of coming to the gym as welcoming as possible. We go to gym to improve ourselves, build self confidence and to be healthy.
I went for my first vaccine and I must complement Discovery for a very effective process. Well done!

Got my 2nd Covid jab. No Q, was great. The previous jab waiting time was 3.45 hours and was extremely unpleasant Qing in the cold. Dont ever want to go through that n my life again.

They took this gym from being one of the best gyms around to being an extreme disappointment. May 2019 I walked into this gym to find half the machines removed, all hardcore muscle building equipment removed - now there is just a huge space at the bottom floor for people to play around with bands and rollers. Most people who went there to train seriously have left because of this because the gym has turned into a joke. Even the new equipment put in is still to this day not oiled enough. This gym WAS good. Not anymore. Only reason I still go there is because it is in my area.
Had a really bad experience.The training facilities was neat and clean.The change rooms and bathrooms was filthy.

Hot water in the shower sometimes is not even hot at all, in the cold weather it is difficult to utilize the facility.

Bad. Old out dated equipment. Smelly bathrooms. Dirty floors and showers. Staff are not welcoming or friendly. Poor social distance measures in place. Toilets are a mess. Lockers are old with no hangers. Showers have no proper pressure or no proper hot water. Poor water stations. Lack of staff on floor to assit with weights or spotting. Worst of the lot. I gym at Foreshore and Wembley Square. Remarkable service as always. Best clubs to train at. This unit could learn from them as to what customer service is
Made a booking for my daughter and myself to attend a shape class today 10/12/20 The booking was made more than a week ago via the app. According to their system we arrived at 8.03 for a class that was scheduled to start at 8.05 am. Upon entering the studio there was confusion as it appeared the class had been overbooked. We were allocated spots in the class and it was confirmed that our names were on the list. Ten minutes into the class I was approached by the manageress and told to leave the class. According to her my spot had been given away because I only arrived two minutes before the class was scheduled to start instead of the 5 minutes they require. I was embarrassed in front of the whole class as well as my ten year old daughter who I had to leave in the class . People who book in advance should receive priority. When I voiced my dissatisfaction with the situation I was met with an icouldnt care less attitude. After many years at virgin active I have decided to call it a day. This was my home from home. I will be cancelling my membership after many years
The class booking system and cancellations by members needs to be monitored more closely..Members book in advance uncertain as to whether they will make it for class or not. Cancel on last minute 😐. Not fair to other members. Members who book and do not arrive nor cancel in advance need to be penalized.

I enjoy being a member as they have a large selection of gyming equipment. They also have a steamroom, sauna & swimming pools. Lovely gym to keep in shape.

Well equipped gym. Spacious with good facilities which is well maintained. Cardio section does feel cramped as machines are close together. Enjoyed working out here.

I am not the gym, I would rather prefer reading about the gym or working out. However, this place is well equipped. The technology is state of the art and very easy to use. The staff is very very energetic, helpful and friendly. I would recommend this place for individual looking for a gym. Also, the virgin active app empowers you to take hold of your goals. There is even internal competitions on the app to challenge you against other gym members.
As always, great and friendly staff. Sorted out the unfreezing of my account due to covid 19 regulations in a nanosecond!

Greatly improved since Ive been there a few years ago. Love the new machines. Only negative is that the free weights and cable machines are on different floors so I have to jump back and forth to use them.

Its a good gym. Didnt come during a busy time but there seem to be plenty of equipment. Building size is large with lots of facilities and a big pool. The free weights and machines are very aged, they are still in the black covers vs the red of some other Virgin Actives. Staff was friendly upon arrival. Plenty of open parking. Other than in need of a refurbish its a good gym

This is a great full on gym, I attended as a visitor & loved the experience. The classes are great. My favorite person at the gym was Kurt Moses. He have a very bubbly,talkative, outgoing , informative personality & very persuasive with recruiting new clients to join...... Great job Kurt
Awesome gym and they refurnished the gym a while ago. Nice and clean and friendly staff. Just had a issue with blocked drains in the showers a few times but they sort it out if you mention it to the staff.

So I wake up at 4:30 am to do the shape class only to find out we are doing a step class. Same thing happened on Sunday when I made time to go to the grid class only to find out there is no grid class. My Understanding of shape class as Shaun introduced it last year at foreshore is slow high intense movements and not jumping up and down a step. I am not a person to complain, however when I put time aside to do a class I expect to get what is on the virgin active app.

Enjoyable workouts at the conveniently located n1 city virgin active. The gym has a great swimming pool, steam room and many other excellent gymming equipment to cater for a variety of fitness needs. Decent operating hours including on weekends and public holidays.
I have been a member of Virgin Active for about 7 years now if not more and most of my experiences have been good. However, the last month has been unacceptable.My girlfriend and I were both members of the Virgin Active N1 City and at the start of the year, we approached the staff to help us change my girlfriends contract, in order to take advantage of the Discovery Vitality benefits. Before making the switch we informed the sales agent that we were moving to Stellenbosch at the end of January and asked if we should wait before we change her contract. The agent however informed us that we need not wait and that we should move immediately and that my girlfriend will even get cashback for January (which she never received).When arriving in Stellenbosch however we were told that we could not move my girlfriends contract for two months due to the Vitality switch earlier that month (which prohibits any changes 60 days after a new contract) . When contacting Virgin Active we were simply told our system doesnt allow the switch.Two things Virgin Active, this was not our mistake, we acted on advice given to us by your staff and secondly as the customer I dont give a damn what your system allows or not, what I care about is that I am able to swipe my card and enter the club without having to explain a story everytime a new staff member is on duty. Also for two weeks everything seemed sorted as my girlfriend had access without any trouble, so clearly the system can be changed.However the access is still a problem and we have been phoning N1 City on a daily basis trying to sort out the problem with the staff member trying to suggest that we were at fault for the move. She also suggested that we just stick it out until the 1st of March because how many times are you really going to go to the gym In 2 weeks. Well the answer is probably 5 times a week and we have been sticking it out for two months now. This is unacceptable.Stellenbosch Virgin Active was however very accommodating and allowed my girlfriend access after hearing the story and handled our situation with empathy which I am most grateful for. However, with her access still being a problem every time a new staff member is on duty we have to repeat the whole story again.
The staff is super friendly and always ready to assist. The gym is cosy and really not intimidating like some gyms can be. The instructors keep it real and you get a sense that they care and want to see u succeed. Wasnt sure about joining here at first but been a member for about 4 months now and loving it.

I signed a one year contract, and to my knowledge I was just suppose to go from 1 July 2017 to 1 July 2018. I went back abiut 3 days ago to find out they are STILL withdrawing money from my dads account and I have not been to the gym since the last day of June. I was not informed of this, and the worker was really disrespectful when I asked him whats up. He claims to have told me after my contract expires they will withdraw money monthly? How? I SIGNED A CONTRACT ONLY VALID FOR A YEAR!! My father lost over R2000!!! Pathetic! And the worker has the nerve to say it was my fault? I do not recommend this gym. When we went to the bank to immediately stop the payments the manager said we were not the first to go through this.
Ask for hot and spicy had to wait 30 minutes and chicken was only crispy but not spicy

Good venue but electronics always an issue and takes forever to fix. Not many options in the area so kinda stuck with them unless you have a home gym
The café was alright, but it was a mission to enter as a guest without a full gym membership. Which, given they are a business, looking to make money, didnt seem to make sense. The menu was alright, not overwhelming service. Wouldnt recommend going unless youre a member.

Due to their unfortunate policies not allowing room for logic, the gyms temperature is always cold which tends to make ones workout uncomfortable unless you wear a thick coat while working out. The showers and change rooms require a much needed upgrade. Staff are friendly and helpful
Very large facilities. First impressions are that its a well run gym. Did not seem as new as others and not as clean, but still acceptable.
Its an ok gym.....It gets busy and they dont have enough equipment. No one does anything when you complain about something.... I have seen better Virgin Active and I only go because it is the closest one in the area
Not the most modern gym, but the friendliest, most helpful staff. It almost feels like less than 5 minutes after I walk in, they announce a Killer Abs class starting (and I love the Killer Abs classes)They have all the equipment I need, and there is a high proportion of members there to gym, and a low proportion of members there to look pretty and post on social media.
Great variety of machinery to use; friendly staff and there are various classes as well as personal training available.
Unfortunately, this gym has a policy of playing excessively load music regardless of member’s complaints. This makes for an extremely unpleasant training environment. . Not recommended as a first choice if you are looking for a pleasent training experience.

The club is older but it has recently upgraded the equipment, they just need to upgrade the female bathrooms or maybe just the disabled toilet. Ill give 5 stars for the friendly stuff and gym management, i think its the gym with most classes, go anytime therell be something helping you when you feel a bit lazy to do your own thing

Quite a cool set-up. Different workout setups are nicely separated.
Staff are half decent but thats where it stops!Been asking for 3 years for the gym to upgrade facilities especially the lack of quantity of popular equipmentlike having only 2 squat racks.Very difficult to follow any kind of gym plan when you have to wait 10-45 minutes for the machines/equipment you need. This often turns a 40 minute gym session into around a 2 hour session. Gym has accepted far too many members for the facilities!Staff always say theyll pass on the message but nothing ever happens. Problems are:-Continuous leaking aircons-Old, crumbling building-Old equipment (most functions dont even work like heart rate monitors)-Peak hour majority of pool lanes closed for external training. How can a whole gym use only 2 lanes to swim?-Lack of helpful advisors for inexperienced members. Ive seen many a new member struggling with operating equipment correctly with zero help.
Gym gets a little full at peak times but great staff excellent facilities. It does close an hour earlier compared to some of the other virgin active
Fantastic welcoming at the door.... that is where it stops. I have noticed members using gym equipment incorrectly, which may injure them probably. Virgin Active should probably get some fitness advisors roaming the floor to guide their members on using the equipment correctly to prevent injury.
Not flashiest Virgin Active but its a home away from home for me. Most of everything works and it not too crowded as some of the other branches. Some of the equipment and facilities can be upgraded...
Place is a bit dated and can do with a refurb. All essential equipment is in place and spinning class is a winner. Change rooms are tired. Could do with some more Watt bikes.
