Original and best fish and chips in Hout Bay. Had the fish and calamari combo. Portion size was perfect. Fish was juicy and tender. Dont expect a 5 star restaurant, thats not the scene. Expect quick moving queues, practical seating, condiment stations, great simple food, and a lovely view of the bay.
Its been over a year since I had the pleasure of indulging in this restaurants delights. A very unique way in presenting the fish and chips in newspaper rap. Some of use oldies will remember this, however in todays health regulation the newspaper has been replaced with a printed chip bag. This has not lowered the quality or flavour of the contents in any way. The setting is perfect for FISH ON THE ROCKS.
Best fish and chips in town. If you are eating outside in the open air, expect the Seaguls to nag you for a spare french fry... Quite entertaining.
Beautiful little joint on the outer edge of Hout Bay. Always full of people, why you ask? Because their food is delicious and their staff is friendly and efficient. I would recommend having a good old fashion fish and chips with calamari. Got recommend by various locals that it is the best joint and we were not disappointed. Would recommend to anyone looking for a lovely drive out of cape town.
On occasional visits to the Western Cape I always visit Fish on the Rocks for a simple Fish n Chips meal while literally sitting on the rocks. The seagulls do pose a problem as they are usually hungrier than you but as long as you dont feed them they keep their distance (albeit almost on your lap).Worth a try. Gaurenteed that you will return.
It was AMAZING as usual BUT THIS EVENING THEY BLEW ME AWAY! they close at 20h15 and as we were leaving and everything was locked up... 2 cars pulled up.. they were so disappointed that it was closed already. The owner/manageress was in her car driving away when she saw this. She turned around and unlocked the shop to assist them!! This was absolutely heartwarming to see and experience and what level of service.. unrivalled! Wow! Well done!! We shall go back time and time again!!!❤❤❣❣⚘⚘
Amazing fried fish with a super light yet crispy batter. Chips were crispy in the outside and soft and creamy on the inside. Not greasy at all and beautifully packaged with the sealed takeaway cutlery. Well done guys, you blew me away
Best seafood and fish and chips by far and a must experience if ever youre in cape town
Food was great but the inside area was disgusting! Rubbish and food left on tables and floor....doesnt anyone clean up?
The fish is delicious and nice and fresh and the chips are nice and crispy too. This place is the best place to go to on the weekend when you want to go for a long drive and get lunch in Hout Bay, nice big table spots to fit the whole family. The prices are affordable and everything is provided there, cups; plates; drinks and other sides too
Not a fancy place , but the food is amazing, and affordable. Prawns calamari and fresh fish fried or grilled and served hot. Its a must if you are a fish lover.
Good experience tasty food! Highly recommended.
On of my favourite places. Excellent fish and chips, sitting in the car looking over the bay. Perfect.
The food is perfect, and the portions are massive. Unfortunately there are a lot of Street kids begging for money at the outside eating area. They do get into your face and become abusive when you dont give them money. This spoils the whole experience unfortunately.
Good quality fish, albeit at a slightly high price.
Had the hake, calamari and prawn comboenjoyed meal. The prawns were good succulent and well seasoned and the size was bigger than what I expected it to be. I will definitely be going back for more
Nice laid back family vibe. Very good fresh seafood. Great experience
We always end up going here for the best hake and chips. It doesnt get better than Fish of the Rocks. Dont be fooled by the long line, as your order will arrive within 5 mins without compromising the quality.
The fish itself is outstanding and placed and a unique wonderful place... I wont say no to it any time soon....keep great guys
Everything is fresh and tasty as always, and the portion sizes are fantastic. Truly one of the best places to get fish and chips, and with a wonderful view too, in Cape Town
A small snack bar on the houtbay offering a variety of fresh fish specialities. The selection is not large, but it is simply delicious. There is seating outside. However, you have to be careful that the food or the napkins dont fly away, as it is extremely windy there. The snack bar is definitely worth a visit. Im already looking forward to my next visit.
Absolutely amazing, fish was fresh and perfectly cooked. Chips were good too. A real old school harbour experience
It is worth all the hype!!!Found out about this over a year ago and I finally had a chance to pop in and have a meal.Great service from the lady in front. The menu is clear and the prices are quite reasonable 😊. The store was quite clean, and the seating area outside was also clean and spacious.I was so impressed with the food! Its sooo good! The fish (hake) is fresh, you can tell they use clean oil. Perfect seasoning too. Absolutely delicious. Chips were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. II recommend it👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
Weve been to Fish on the Rocks a fair amount of times, & enjoyed the fish & other delicacies, as offered on the menu. And because the fish etc is prepared so well, and always fresh, we find us always returning. However, today (20/06/21) the calamari wasnt as tender and probably over fried. My elderly mum had difficulty eating it and did not finish her meal.
Good place on a great day. Food is good 👍. Need to be a little more covid conscious. Got the social distancing thing down, but the condiments and takeaway cutlery station is a bit of a free for all. Hope peoples hands were clean when they help themselves to forks, salt packets and lemon slices. Otherwise a very authentic experience. 4 stars.
Best fish we had during our entire cape town holiday, 10 out of 10 if you want fresh fish which is out of this world!
Just Wow Wow Wow...fish is fresh. My wife said it has been such along time since ive tasted such good fish and chips. That was her exact words👌
Complete rip off. One x small portion Calamari and chips plus 2x 200ML cokes R168.00.When i say small i mean small packets are the size of your hand .Here is what gets me the price of chips is the same as price of calamari. Now please explain that to me. To cap it off they have a serious rat infestation outside shop in parking area. Cant even stand at the rocks.NEVER AGAIN. OWNER CAN ONLY BE WELL........
A well known eatery situated at the back of Hout Bay....way past the harbour. It is perfectly located right on the rocks overlooking the ocean. Everything is freshly prepared and tastes delicious. Eat at the tables under cover or sit on the rocks - watch out for the sea gulls. The seaating area is wheelchair accessible, the entrance into the eatery has a very low step - it should be manageable. Parking is freely available.
I love history and for me it was facinating.... It was a sunny day, the photos amazing, and the best of all the Post Office tree.... 👏👏👏
Good food all the time. Always frresh. Friendly staff. Very clean place. Great seating facilities for sit down.
I 😍 their grilled snoek and they have dedicated parking even though the Hout Bay Market may be busy. Choose your moment carefully, the wind can be harsh so be prepared for a lovely meal 🦈
No fresher fish and chips than this! And you get the view for free! You can follow @becausecapetown on Facebook for more local experiences and insights into our beautiful Cape Town.
Staff have a serious attitude problem, can’t even get a simple order correct then proceed to argue with me. NEVER AGAIN! 🤮 Taste like last week pap snoek anyways!
Loved it!! We had my surprise birthday lunch there after our hike 😉
Great local experience. Proper deep fried fish and chips, well priced and departed from the tourist vibe of Cape Town.
The prawns are always reasonably fresh. but the fish is getting smaller every time...
Must visit for a good affordable meal...buy the hake calamari and chips dont forget ti taje the salt thou outside and then take a drive to Chapmans Peak and enjoy your meal watching the beautiful ocean
Fantastic little joint for a quick bite. Very fast and efficient service. Portions are large and well priced.
The hake and chips were amazing. Great food. Lovely setting. Seals close by as well which was a bonus.
Fun experience. A LOT OF FOOD for a decent price. Fish was super fresh!
It amazing place food5 great love it
Extremely good place to go I would personally recommend it .....although it can get full from its popularity so I would suggest get there before lunch hour...its a great place to take the family on a Sunday for lunch
Always coming back for more, too devine
Freshest fish, good portions. Theres always a queue, but definitely worth the wait.
SUCH A BEAUTIFUL LOCATION
Its a good tourist place for fish and chips. During weekend its too crowdy so be ready for a long que and waiting.
Small portions for a lot of money . Food doesnt taste as good as I expected.
Standard has dropped, it used to be melt in your mouth calamari, now i dono.
Absolutely terrible food. Undercooked and their chips seems like just store bought oven baked. Covid restrictions not in place. Patrons can be seen sitting in during Level 4 and the setup is so bad. You have to go outside and season your own food. Lemon slices laying in a tray in the open, plastic cutlery uncovered, vinegar bottles also outside with no covers on them. The food comes in very tiny and awkward to use paper bags. We gave the food away. Will not recommend this place. MARINERS WHARF is a much much better alternative!
Loved the chows 🐟. Excellent value excellent service 👏 as always
Had the Calamari, Hake and Prawns platter. Was absolutely delicious. The Calamari was my favourite and the spice on the prawns was very tasty.
Great fish and chips in an informal atmosphere. Bay views spectacular.
Tasteless food all around. We ordered the combo that included prawns, hake, calamari and chips.. Everything tasted the same and had the same texture.. I am very disappointed, considering how hungry we were.
As per usual the fish is always fresh. Had the prawns , hake , calamari and chips and once again their peri peri prawns are great. Never disappointed with their food.
Scammed me by tapping 300rand more than my order. I even asked and clarified the price. Won’t be going back again. Not Covid safe, no space to be with everyone squished in together so tightly. Check your bills!!
PRIME LOCATION FOR A PRIME MEAL
The service is very good and the fish is very fresh out the sea and into the pan then on the plate
Wonderful place and food is very delicious 😋 I love the 🐟 🐠 hake yummy 😋
Yummy, yummy yummy, if you are ever in Cape Town make sure you go to an area called Hout bay and find Fish On The Rock....My mouth is literally salivating just by the thought of the quality of sea food provided. There is an outdoor sitting and should you wish you can park your car facing the muzeinburg ocean great place, next to it is Hout bay Markert which also has some great food incase you need desert, the only uncomfortable thing is that there are homeless people that come and ask for food or money while you eat. Overall if a great local area.
Great food, wonderful backdrop of ocean and mountains. I wish that they would implement separate bins for their waste, plastic, tins and other stuff...just so they could be recycling all their plastic bottles, forks and knives and many tins of cool drinks they sell.
Love the Ocean View and the food 😍 the toilets are nice and clean and service is good 💯
