The owners of Material Girl really go the extra mile: incredibly valuable advice, affordable sewing lessons, sewing machine servicing, a good variety of zips, buttons, sewing machine feet, rotary cutters, patterns, pattern making paper, as well as useful affordable fabrics. I often go there for fabric offcuts or if I want to buy something with a special, pretty pattern. I see new fabrics in the shop regularly, making it exciting to pop in every once in a while to see whats new. Also really accessible in the centre of Durbanville with free parking.

Ive always had positive visits to the store and could not complain about any products, but had my sewing machine and overlocker serviced by them in the beginning of December. Both were returned dripping with oil. The first garments I sewed were soiled and ruined. I had to sit down and clean both machines intensely before I could continue.

I didnt realize that they did alterations as well as servicing and repairing of ones sewing machine. Cute little store. Good variety of sewing accessories. Extremely helpful ladies. Material available offcuts as you would find with Woolworths clothing. Not a large variety of fabrics though but you may find the gem that you were looking for.They offer 3hour sewing classes at R300.

Sorry to say but my experience was not so good. Its the 5th time I visited and each time they are low or out of stock on zips and sliders. Confused about the stock they did have and the prices. I realize that is not a common item, and that not everyone buys it. I did ask 4 times to please stock this, then I can support them regularly. As I am also a small business owner and would love to support them. But sadly nothing changed.
