I recently returned home from my year of au pairing in the netherlands and even though the experience was amazing I cannot say the same for the agency. From the beginning and of the application process at the South African branch in Melkbos I felt like they did not care for me and I felt neglected as they did not contact me after the training weekend and I was left in the dark for several months, I did not appreciate this as I had to make future plans. We repeatedly reached out and always got the same excuses. After escalation to management the issue was resolved and I was able to skype and match with families. But as for my stay in the netherlands I had very little to no support from the agency as I would constantly tell them about happenings that needed their attention. Support was required from the agency in terms of the contract set out between myself and the host family. The host family was in breach of some of the conditions stipulated in the contract and the agency did little to nothing to resolve the issues. I would constantly call them and tell them about issues I had and they would do little to nothing to help me. A friend of mine at the same agency had similar issues regarding lack of support. This left me feeling emotionally unsupported as they are there to protect the young girls going into a foreign country alone. I was not the only one experiencing these things from the agency as I was in contact with multiple au pairs from the same agency who had the same experience. When it came to the coronavirus outbreak they encouraged us to keep traveling and not to cancel any plans which I found quite irresponsible as we would be putting our host families and children at risk. They also offered little to none support with repatriation and was told we would be stuck in the netherlands unless we would pay for our own repatriation flights. We received no help from their side as to get us back to our home country which was quite disappointing. In conclusion I would not recommend house o orange au pairs and would caution any person wanting to au pair through this company.
