Good experience: Hiring and collecting the car. Quite effortless and reasonable pricesBad experience: Returning the car. They charged me for a cleaning of the car for some sand on the floor of the drivers seat. Yes, I could have cleaned it but it was the only issue and it literally takes a hoover and 2 minutes to get rid of the sand. Unecessary to charge for a cleaning.

Rent a Cheapie was a wonderful company to deal with. My kids were able to rent a car without needing their own credit cards, which is a requirement of most other car rental companies. Mercy, the sales lady was very helpful and informative. The car was well maintained and gave no problems at all. My deposit was refunded to me 3 working days after the vehicle was returned. Will definitely use them again.

This is the worst rental car company I’ve ever seen. I’ve had an issue with the car when I called them to fix the issue they call me back after tow day’s . What an amazing car’s and amazing service you have. The front wiper water bottle is broken the cruise control is not working .

With all the poor reviews I read of other car rental companies I felt I took a bit of a gamble renting a car. Rentacheapie had good prior customer reviews and with good reason. They provided me clear and upfront conditions of use with no fine print. The vehicle was clean and mechanically sound. Service staff was helpful and assisted with additional questions I had. When I returned the vehicle in the same manner I received it a service staffer done a check on the vehicle and gave it a thumbs up in a matter of minutes. 2 days later my full deposit was refunded to my bank account. Great, honest service at a fraction of the price.

From Germany so excuse my English.Travelled a lot and this was by far the worst rental I ever received.Here are some problems I experienced:- Both mirror adjusters falling out- Stickshift coming out about 20 centimeters- Passenger seat not moving- Gas paddle floating around- Windshield wipers only wipe half of the glass- Break is super squeaky- Gear shift beaten out so much that it goes into reverse without pushing it down!!!! I almost crashed because of that.- Handbreak barely works if not jammed up with force.- Isolation coming offI went back and told an employee on the first day that the gas paddle was a safety hazard and that the stick for shifting is coming out. He said thats normal and I dont have to worry.When I gave the car back he asked me if everything was fine. I stated all the above. He just said: but other than that everything was fine? Good customer relation training is all I can say. With the high waiver the car isnt even cheap. So basically just get a normal car(on a comparison platform) for the same price with an even cheaper waiver and a real car.

I just have to say that I am a very very happy customer.I had a terrible car accident in April which left me without a car. And the staff at RAC were extremely accommodating and very understanding.I have been renting a car from them since April till end of July. Reason being is because I lost my job end of July which is devastating and the accounts lady who delt with my account was beyond amazing.Thank you so very much for your help and compassion with everything.I definitely recommend RAC

I had a wonderful experience with Rentacheapie! I rented a VW Chico Golf for three months and had no issues whatsoever with the vehicle. Even though the it was an older car it was in great condition and extremely affordable. Rentacheapie made both the pick up and return a simple task and all the employees I dealt with were friendly and willing to help. Rentacheapie is the best!! I don’t think there is a better car hire in Cape Town that is more affordable and offers better service. Thanks!!

Rentacheapie is surely not cheap. Initially, my husband and I paid to rent a car early in the year and lockdown prevented our trip. We asked for a refund and were told that, it was not possible despite the external circumstances. We would have appreciated full disclosure on their website about the lack of refunds. We decided to keep the booking for a future date when restrictions were relaxed. The trip went great. However, when picking up the car, we were told that it should not go on gravel roads. Again, we would have appreciated FULL disclosure on their website regarding such things (or even in our email correspondence), so that decisions can be made with full information - especially because they knew we were heading out of town with when we booked the car - this is South Africa, you will encounter gravel roads somewhere. Customers should be given full information when extra charges will apply. Putting this information on a website is easy enough to do. All in all, we will definitely be thinking twice before we rent again from Rentacheapie. The experience left a sour taste in our mouths. Prospective customers, please check the fine print and ask many questions, otherwise you may be hit with an unpleasant surprise in extra charges.

If I can give 0 stars I would.The car itself is in terrible condition and not recomending it to anyone who want to keep their feet dry while driving it. We did the inspection pointed out all the flaws and it was the assistant job to mark it all on the papers. Unfortunately they took a chance and didnt mark the marks on the rim and we did not notice this until we returned the car and they want to charge us 600 zar for it even tho it was like that when we got it. Will never rent from them again and will not recommend anyone to rent from them either. Go to a proper place rent a proper car and save yourself drama and disappointment.

Absolutely unacceptable. Please people be extra careful. Suddenly you must have a deposit of 5900 out of your bank account. Not customer oriented service at all. I wish to add to this review. I took the trouble to read the contract in detail . Please do so everyone. You will be shocked if you see what you are in for . I believe this business proliferates on customers not reading the contract properly. If theres a tyre issue / a scratch / and such you will be responsible/ a windscreen you will be responsible

Everything was fine till i took the car back. Should have taken more notice of the bad reports on Hello Peter. They found a really small scratch on the bumper hardly visible and charged me R1300I just wonder how many people they caught with that same scratch on a 20 year old car

We hired a Hyundai i10 for about 3 days while on holiday in Cape Town. On the 2nd day the vehicle could not start. We called the vehicle assistance line and was met with an individual that was not phased, no sense of urgency, no apology, no remorse for the huge inconvenience that it caused us. Eventually the vehicle was replaced with another. When we returned the vehicle there was still no sign of concern and zero apology. Poor customer service!!

Superb. I had timely and detailed responses from (Annuscha and Candice) who teamed up to get my rental process smooth. Even my deposit refund was within the promised time.The only issue was the Subaru Forester I got was NOT the one they show on their website. Ive had terrible experiences with these guys. Ive switched cars 4 times in the two months we had a car from them, and every single time they managed to charge me extra for something when I returned the car. Ive never paid extra with a normal (airport) rental agency. I really cannot stress enough how uncomfortable, unfair and unpleasant renting a car here is. PLEASE go somewhere else. ANYWHERE else! If I could give 0 stars I would!!

Then there are the hubcaps...if you rent from them take off every hub cap and take pictures as they will fine you for every scratch possible. To top it off make sure you check your credit card to check that they refund you what little you have left off your deposit. We went to Wise Wheels in Cape Town that is also a local company and they have been very helpful and easy going. I was not going to do a public review until now when they are making it very complicated to get the deposit returned and telling me that I am getting confused. Safe yourself a lot of heart ache and find a better deal.

I rented a car for 6 weeks, within the first week I had problems with the car and had to ring roadside assistance. The car stalled multiple times at traffic lights, the rev counter didnt work and car wouldnt drive in second gear.The air conditioning only worked once the whole period I had the car.Roadside assistance was quick to respond to fix the gear/rev counter problem, they said they fixed the air conditioning and lights were coming on but no cool air. Roadside assistance had to come out a second time, this time they told me some or other pump were broken, they couldnt fix it on site. I was told the office team will ring me that same day to replace the car. The phone call never came. The emails I sent to explain my dissatisfaction remained unanswered. I returned the car after my rental period and again voiced my dissatisfaction and asked to be reimbursed for the fact I never had a working air condition (which I specifically paid extra for in a higher tier car), Im still waiting for a response on that too.The initial customer experience was good, booking and checking the car out went smoothly but if you want a reliable car and a service you can rely on dont book through rentacheapie.

Rented a golf for 7 days. It was a last minute reservation, the car i wanted was not available but the team made contact as soon as one became available. I got the car I could afford on the day that I initially had booked for. On collection, payment and inspection was quick and seamless. Employees very enguaging, in a few minutes I was in my way.I needed to extend but was unsure for how long, instead of extending for another 7 days the team made an exception based on my situation. Anuscha was my main point of contact, sorry I didnt get to put a face to the name but all in all, great service and vehicle was well maintained. Definitely at the top of my referral list. My referrals will be plentiful as I am in the hospitality industry and definitely appreciate good service. Thanks team!

It has been 7 days and we have not received money back from a hefty deposit despite the fact that we share the same bank. We called several times to determine where they were in the process, to learn they had lost track of our contract. This is all after we were told that after dropping off the car and told it would take no more than a three days. Not impressed.EDITED: In response to Rentacheapie; you are incorrect. I dropped of the car on SATURDAY 24th October at 14hrs not the date you have in your records. I only got your email on Thursday 29th October and it went to my spam. I did respond swiftly when I realised this BUT before then, I had called twice and nobody could help me. Yesterday I finally got my deposit back but consider changing your 48 hours to manage expectations. Because that was not 48hours.

I have rented from Rentacheapie a few times now. My latest one was the longest, even though I was a walk in customer, I got the car sooner then expected. Staff was very helpful. Even when a had a small problem with the car, the breakdown guy came out and sorted out out in no time. Overall I am happy with their service. Never had a problem getting my deposit back. We went here twice and both times the place was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful.The place is about 9 minutes away from the Cape Town City Center and they actually have better deals than AVIS, Bidvest and other rental companies in town (I actually verified this because I rented from the first two companies and I verified the prices that Rent a Cheapie offers)So if you are looking to rent a car for a cheap price and with a good insurance coverage you should go here.We wanted to see the cars and they brought each one of them to the front of the shop so that we could see and decide which one we actually wanted to use.The lady at the inquiries desk was very helpful and guy responsible for the insurance actually took the time to explain to my friend the different options and give us quotes for everything we asked.Based on their website they are open Monday to Friday: 08:00 – 17:00 and we arrived there at 16:45 and within 5 minutes we were doing the paper work this though didnt stop the manger from coming by all annoyed and said directly to our face and his employees to hurry up because the office is already closed when it wasnt yet 17:00.His attitude was honestly the only thing that ruined the experience and if it wasnt for the fact that we had no other option to rent the car right at that moment I would have left the shop and not rented here.The manager was also the only one that took off his face mask in the office while there were still people around.So as long as you dont have to deal with the manager at this place expect to have a very nice service because the staff is very nice and there were no other hick ups.

I rented a car with Rentacheapie for 3 months and they really provided fantastic service all around.:The office is always reachable via telephone and they respond to mail within minutes. There was once a small issue with the car and when I contacted them, 30min later their mechanic was there and solved everything.During the Corona crisis they were very flexible and helped in a fast and unbureaucratic way.Their staff is very friendly and helpful.I can really recommend them !

Great if you are a careful slow driverI had originally written a very scathing review and RentaCheapie called me to discuss what I had written. The service is not right for me as I have been known to occasionally exceed the speed limit and always need to drive on dirt roads.The impression I got when renting the vehicle (where I found out about the nasty t&cs after signing the contract) - my fault as I said I wasnt interested in t&cs and I wrongly assumed that having hired lots of cars in my life, that speeding and driving offroad was fine.Not so with rentacheapie and i got the impression you could get a huge fine at the end of the hire period for both activities. on the call, they assured me that they will always try and contact the hirer before fining. If they see you going off-road they will text you and they only fine you for driving off-road because they claim their insurance wont pay out if an accident occurs if it could be a result of offroad driving - blow out on normal road if youve driven off road for example and they also stated that driving offroad increases the depreciation and so they dont want their assets being unnecessarily damaged.If this would stand up to the financial ombudsman is questionable, but it is what it is.So, in summary if you are a slow driver who is just going to be using the car for standard journeys and are careful RentACheapie offer a very good service.It just isnt the hire car company for me, I have to add that I took the car back early as being unable to drive on dirt roads didnt work for me and the company understood and didnt charge a cancellation fee. In addition they found my glasses (which I thought I had lost elsewhere) and got in touch to tell me were in the car. So from a service perspective they did really well!

All in all it was good service however we were not informed about a travel fee for taking the car further than 200km.I have no problem with the travel fee,however the charge for non-disclosure was insulting and unnecessary. Perhaps it would be easier if you had a sign informing customers of this clause to avoid this embarrassment on the event that the customer is unaware and if the staff member forgets to mention it.

ITS A BIG - DONT RENT WITH THEM from my side!Here my reasons:1. I got a Golf 1 and as I never drove such a car before I asked them to show me how to do it, but they were not helpful at all. Very stressed and said that it works normally as every other car. Which was not true. The clutch was soooo hard to push that I (small woman) had issues driving ten minutes to my house and felt very unsafe. The next day I wanted to take the car again and it didnt start. SO it was broke and they came and fetched the car BUT I had to even pay for the gas I used, which I thought was ridiculous because it wasnt my fault that the car was not working.2. Than I changed to an i10 and I bought the super cover. They didnt explain anything to me abut it, they just said everything is covered.When I brought back the car two hubcaps were scartched and they told me I have to pay 750R because the hubcaps where not included in the super cover. I have rented cars for many years all over the world and if you buy a super cover EVERYTHING is fully covered.In general the service was not helpful at all, they were often unexperienced, didnt explain properly, the cars where in poor conditions. And I didnt experience customer service at all!Please, rather spend some more money on good international rental cars than risking your safety!

Honestly, I cant say one positive word about this company. We rented a car for a weekend to go to Franschhoek and its wine estates. We informed the company in advance about all our plans. Of course they knew that there were gravel roads there, but as foreigners, we did not. When I returned the car, refueled and undamaged, they claimed that the rims got buckled due to driving 5 km on gravel roads. They eventually gave me a fine of R800-00 for driving on a gravel road plus R2798-00 for the replacement of the rims, which is completely insane. They abused the fact that I am a young woman who clearly does not have a lot of knowledge about cars. I cant believe they can treat people like that. They will make up anything to blame you and make money off of someone. Rather spend your money somewhere else and receive a good and friendly service and be assured that you wont get scammed! I work at Guest Services in a 5-star hotel in Cape Town and I will ensure that my guests will never rent a car from Rentacheapie.

6 weeks later and I have still not received my 3900 rand deposit back. I rented a VW Chico for 7 days and returned the car on 19th March. They said they would refund my whole 3900 rand deposit within 48 hours. As I rented by debit card (for which they also charge an extra 300 rand) they refund the deposit by bank transfer. After ignoring my initial emails they said that they had processed it on 23rd March. I asked them for proof of refund (which on their website they say they will send within 48 hours of car return) but they would either ignore my email or say that they would pass it on to the financial manager. They clearly never actually processed the refund.I have contacted my bank who are now processing the whole transaction as a fraudulent one and will be attempting to claim back the money that way.The whole experience with Rentacheapie was horrible. They respond quickly to emails when they want you to rent the car and pay for it, but when they have to send your deposit back they simply do not even care to respond. And they cannot use the excuse of the COVID-19 lockdown because I returned the car before that, and their email accounts have still been active as well as their social media.As far as the car itself goes, it was in extremely poor condition. The gearbox was very stiff and sometimes I couldnt even put it in 2nd gear. The radio was loose and would fall out while I was driving. The whole time I didnt feel safe while driving the car.AVOID this company at all costs. They are fraudulent and do not care about their customers. They will steal your money with a smile on their face.

We had a good experience with this company, prices are reasonable, a large and varied fleet, with well maintained vehicles.The renting process is pretty standard, they need a Photo ID and your Drivers license, having a Credit card will make the process faster and simpler, but its not mandatory, they accept debit cards and cash as well.The important thing with renting a car is that you document any and all defects on the outside and inside of the car, that means before you drive it away take photos of the whole car and make sure they note all pre existing damage, if they miss something in the beginning but find it at the end of the rental period they will charge you for the damage, even though you didnt do it, so make sure the staff note everything with you present.Its usually busy in the morning, with people renting and returning cars, the staff will walk you through the process, but they are not so organized, a bit of patience is needed.
