Part of the cape flats distress association, this bookstore has been in the Sea Point area for over thirty years (second location).Funds raised goes to the ngo for programs in poor areas. The store has a sister store in Claremont. The store could do with a spruce up, but i guess funds are limited.

I was pleasantly surprised, and impressed by the quantity and range of books. Dont expect too much thats new, but dont be surprised when you see it either. Prices cant be good, books are in good shape, and staff are knowledgeable and friendly.

Popped into shop as I saw a good read on the display bookshelves. This is really a charity store where people do voluntary work. The proceeds go towards uplifting the underprivileged. There is a section for fiction, non fiction, coffee table books, school text books, magazines and used cds. Conclusion: good books at a great price for a good cause.

Love this gem of a book shop. I always find something interesting, with loads of new and old books. They replenish the shelves all the time and the kids section is great. The staff are friendly and you can now Snap Scan payments over a certain amount.

To me, second-hand bookshops are special places. The intrinsic value of a book has nothing to do with its newness and unlike some, I am not impressed by the smell of a new book. The real value of a book lies in its ability to endure. If its no good, all the new copies will be in second-hand bookshops pretty quickly. If its good, itll only get there when its current owner dies (could still be pretty quick in some cases, but mostly, not), so you may have to wait a while if youre looking for something specific. But the important thing is the bookstore owners ability to spot, sort, price and display the really good ones. The owner/manager needs to love books and to be able to recognise their value. Hes fighting a losing battle of course because hard-copy books are now an endangered species, so they will one day acquire value based on rarity. For all these reasons, all sentient beings should visit this bookshop.

Cafda Book Shop is a typical charity shop. Cafda being Cape Flats Distress Association. A bit down at heel and dingy, but what a fabulous collection of books and magazines. This is the place to find that book that you need/want for a holiday read. Sewing patterns, knitting patterns hard back or soft, there is something for everyone plus a delightful attendant to point you in the right direction.
