Very good selection of meats. Boerewors is expensive. Bakery is good. Can always depend on them for their extensive cheese selection. Winotique is also very good.

Unhappy experience.Walked into Checkers to withdraw money with a purchase. Cashier had an attitude that she is not in the mood to assist. She did not swipe my checkers card and I had to wait for a refund on my checkers xtra savings. The place in the front /at deli area smells TERRIBLE. Not the first time it smells bad. Cashier insisted to do transactions seperate: Swipe for items and then swipe for cash amount to withdraw.SWIPE for items went through and cash withdraw declined. I retried many times. Contacted my bank and got confirmation that all is good on my side. Left and returned to different cashier. I asked if I should purchase an item to withdraw cash and cashier said no. Declined again. I took a R6 item and insisted that the item is paid with my cash withdraw. Transaction APPROVED.30-60min of my day waisted due to staff members that are either uniformed and or not interested in assisting the customer.Store Manager was not on floor to assist. Food manager asked to assist. No positive outcome and or response.This influences my future support with Checkers.

Went to get lunch from the Deli, counter is open and people reached in and touched the chicken strips. Then after tasting decided it was too spicy and coughed without covering their mouth over food. I asked for freshly fried food and received a half cooked still cold food. Even without COVID this is disgusting.

Went there on Tuesday 2nd August, spoke to the lady at the money market counter and she was extremely rude to me. Left and went to the lottery side and there too the person who helped me was extremely rude again, but different lady. Not happy.

Decent Checkers....have what you need. Never super busy. Plenty parking if youre willing to cross the road...easy to do. Some really helpful friendly staff but as with most places, some not so much.

So many tills! Never more than 3 cashiers. They dont value customer time.

Often items do not have prices. And when they do they scan incorrect. They do not wash their trolleys (ever) and there is a smell at the meat section and front counter that makes you gag.I have on more then one occasion taken expired or rotten product from the shelf and handed or pointed it out to a staff member.I only visit the shop if there is a really good promotion.

Managed the opening very well. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes during peak time. Store is well stocked. Wheel chair friendly. The staff were quite jolly. Air-conditioned which you can actually acknowledge, thats a huge relief in this heat. Opening specials are always nice. Well done checkers, you will definitely be supported by the locals . Weve been waiting for quite some time.

A very modern shopping centre with wheel chair friendly access everywhere - even wheel chair friendly tills. Very clean as always from the Checkers group. Great prices and friendly staff. Beautiful shop with a great variety at great prices.

This Checkers is within the 60/60 zone of my house. So on the odd day when I dont want to go the the shops, i just pop into the app, order my items and within 60mins its at my door. Great service!!

Was very disappointed yesterday you would have thought that the securities at the door would be more serious of sensitizing customers hands for their safety and others but no went in the lady security just looked at me and did not santise my hands just standing there and socializing with fellow employees. And then in the line staff members first assist each other before assisting customers and we the customers are standing there we have to wait until they feel they want to assist us !!

I shop here weekly, Checkers is big, never crowded.

During peak hours from 16:30 onwards, there should be a dedicated till for staff only. Customers are backing into the isles as there are only 7 out of 18 tills open. It is frustrating to have to wait for Checkers staff delaying and queuing at the tills with cards that would not swipe etc. Employees should not use tills for customers. Unacceptable.

I love Checkers and I am loyal to the brand but its becoming ridiculous. To start off with, the quality of the fresh produce has significantly dropped. Last night the shelves were almost completely empty. Secondly, the staff at the hot food/deli counter are either never in sight and you have to wait forever for help or they are rude and work slow. Thirdly the bakery, if its happened once it probably happened 10 times already where there is either little to no freshly baked rolls/bread or the product on offer is stale. You can see the baked goods are not made with care. And to close its seems that you guys have an overall issue with stock, Ive been asking about the new lays flavour for weeks now but still nothing, another lady made a comment in store last night that it was already the 3rd item she needed but that was out of stock. I sincerely hope you read these reviews and that you address it. My patience is waning and my brand loyalty wont keep me coming to a subpar store if the issues are not addressed.

We went to this Checkers the day before Christmas for some last minute shopping. Ill admit I wasnt sure what to expect.The place was really modern looking, and clean. I loved the layout of the grocery store, it made sense and I could find what I was looking for relatively easily. Except for toilet paper. Didnt find any so it was an item we skipped.The staff members were all quite friendly and I enjoyed chatting to them! It was a fun experience shopping here.

Checkers Gordons Bay is a great shop. However, I think they can take the lead in reducing the plastic packaging of their fruit and vegetables, and other items that need not be packaged to death in plastic. Failing that, please provide a recycle bin at the front of the store so that excess plastic can be discarded at Checkers so that Checkers needs to responsibly recycle the excessive plastic packing before it gets taken home and eventually lands up in the sea, landfill or just in the open veld.Also STOP with the plastic bags, only offer paper bags or material bags. Its a simple as that.Another ALSO, stop supplying plastic cutlery at the Deli. Only supply bamboo or wooded cutlery. And definitely NO plastic straws.Fighting the proliferation of plastic needs to be done at the source: YOUR SHOP. Lets all work together to make a difference to the plastic problem.

A fantastic, well stocked grocery store. It hosts really fresh fruit, a fantastic prepared food section, a large wine area, cheese, fish and pretty much anything else. Its clean, spacious and the staff are friendly.

Best supermarket I’ve been to in SA so far! Really modern, clean and great stock and variety. Staff were a bit inattentive at the tills but otherwise very impressed. Congrats to the owners and managers!

The Checkers shop self is clean, tidy and the employees and helpfull. There is an ass at the Liquor store deciding if your child my enter or not. Other than that the checkers self is still clean and freshly stocked. I highly recommend the checkers shop self but not the liquor store

Shop is clean and spacious. Good variety, but the tellers are absolutely motionless, emotionless and downright rude to the point of non service. 3 ladies at the kiosk and only one helping a customer. The other 2 chatting to each other while looking straight at us. PATHETIC.... Jack up your staff or I will come and give them lessons in client service.

I go there all the time to shop, and have been supporting them since they opened. I went in today to get some items and wanted to get cash back. The person at the till asked the controller for cash back. The controller just said something in her language and walked away. I asked again if someone was going to help me, as I cannot see how there cannot be money to give me cash back. The person at the till asked the controller again. She just looked at her with an angry face, mumbled simething in her language and walked off. The person at the till just said again sorry the controller says she does not have money. Not good service, not a good way to be treated and I will try and do my shopping elsewhere from now on

When they opened a year ago I gave a 5 star. Now however they are croocking the customers. This by putting the wrong labels with the products. Under the 200 gr of smoked salmon, there is the price tag of 100 gr so people take it supposing Checkers is honest. This is a policy with a lot of the more expensive products such as fine (important) cold meat where price tags of lower quality products are used (giving the product a cheaper price at the shelf). Another example is the Cote D Or chocolate mignonettes that is priced with a fake label of R 39 while it costs R 89... I bought Kings Gold butter having a rancid taste... I discovered it came from the Ukraine and isnt wanted anymore in Europe, There is enough high quality butter in South Africa, why selling an inferior butter????

Wish I could give Zero stars. Checkers Gordons Bay is the only place I do my shopping as it is on my way home to Pringle Bay. Firstly, the staff and their attitude towards people is disgusting and does not seem to have any training of any sort, where is the manager?Staff on the till is slow and I had on a couple of times ask cashiers to please focus on ringing up my items and stop chatting with each other as it seems they are unable to multi-task.There seemed to be no one to weight my items, great day!Quality for products (Fresh Produce) has significantly degraded. Im very disappointed and find myself return yet another bunch of products today.

Very rude and unfriendly staff in all departments especially the deli/food areas. Then to top off the experience I AM ONCE AGAIN charged full price for a 50 percent deal. This is a situation that has happened countless times to me. The management should wake up and realise the difference in the amount of customers apon opening until now. THERES A PROBLEM!!! PATHETIC.

The store is horribly disappointing. Every time I have gone here, the deli, bakery and butchery have not been staffed and Im left standing for ages trying to get assistance, and when it finally shows up the service is rude and full of bad attitude as if helping me get my loaf of bread is beneath the staff. Ive never seen any management here and staff in general is scarce, tellers are also mostly rude and unfriendly. The store itself is clean and modern but management needs a huge wake up call

People check your bags against what you paid for. I had Lindt chocolate disappear between taking my bags and stepping into my house.I also find many shelves understocked, some products MIA for weeks.This could be the Checkers stepchild.... I have to add to this review.I had two checkers staff members pushing in infront of me, whilst waiting to pay. Abhorrent.Perhaps I am jinxed with bad experiences at this specific Checkers.Having to phone Customer Care is less effective than a publuc/social opinion..... Oh I almost forgot.. not a single can of Coke.. days on end.Thank you.

I am so disappointed in this shop after looking forward to it for so many months. The shelves are empty, the labels are wrong and the wrong size product just gets pushed side ways to hide the empty shelf. Some products are not marked at all and SOME of the packers hang around together and do nothing but chat. Come on management, please manage your store of get someone else to do it....

Worst customer service ever. Have often bought fruit or vegetables and they are vrot within a day or two... Dont expect quality when you shop here - service or goods.

I have been to checkers almost daily since the opening , in the beginning everyone so friendly, but at moment i get a friendlier greeting from the security at the entrance of shop than the staff especially the cashiers, there is a handful which i can exclude from this. i must also mention that the other day i had such severe backache and the cashier asked a young lady to help me unpack my trolly , i didnt expect this from anyone but she did it with a smile, my sincerest thanks to the young lady.I was in checkers not half a hour ago and the cashier and packer really didnt even greet back or smile or responded to a thank you which was given to them. it is just so discouraging as i am friendly person and a smile or greeting never harmed anyone.Then i bought fruit and there was fruit flies in the container and the berries was busy going off. not very nice thing to see when you get home and open the container.i do hope that something can be done about all thisthank you kindlygerda
