Not full of sugar so you wont feel as guilty if you want to have 2.This is definitely a place to see when you visit Cape Town. You will enjoy the old timing building that has been there since 1989 to the unique graffiti perfectly suited to the building and the bakery itself.Social distancing is very important and wear a mask to say the least.

So there I was, on the hunt for something enticing to brighten up the day of a friend who was recovering from Covid. I found Charly’s Bakery and off I went to purchase some cupcakes. Although the area looked a little tired, the beaming smile of the vendor, standing next to an array of homemade wares, made my visit more worthwhile. It is obvious that things are not as they used to be but behind the scenes one could see that there are still plenty of cakes on order. Definitely worth a visit to brighten up anybody’s day.

For the first time ever, about a week ago. I the opportunity to visit Charlys Bakery in search of a Birthday Cake for a friend from overseas. I had first seen Charlys Bakery on tv a few years back when the had the Charlys Bakery show and i had always wanted to visit this iconic bakery.For anyone who loves beautiful, magical, quality Baked goodies that will blow your mind and put a smile on anyones face i highly recommend you go here.It was a truly memorable day and cake. And the Biscuits we had purchased with the dinosaur and Cactus were so cool.Charlys went above and even made a extra cup cake with a quirky add on.Thanks a million guys you are Legends!Mucking Afazing Cakes!

The bakery is aesthetically pleasing. Quite cute I must say. There is always a wide variety of cakes, cookies and cupcakes to choose from and the staff is extremely friendly. However, after much anticipation and excitement when I spotted it on my way to the shops (Ive always wanted to try out their cake.) I was quite disappointed when I tried their caramel cheesecake. It was not up to the standard I anticipated. Ive definitely had much better cheesecake in my last 3 years in Cape Town

A great little discovery with a good assortment of diet smashing chocolate powered cakes. Staff are friendly and patient as I took my time taking photos and asking them about their cakes. Prices are not too expensive and the rustic feel is really good. Will definitely suggest a stop over for cake that is truly delicious.

What a little treasure. The cakes, biscuits and tarts can only be described as eye-candy. A great variety of items are available as well as gluten free options. For those who are lactose intolerant or vegan, there are options both in food and drinks for you.We found some of the items overpriced while others where value for money...a bit confusing and disappointing.We loved the overall experience!

Ive been wanting to try Charlys for ages, and finally got my chance. The place was a little shabby and worn, but the lady behind the counter was very friendly. She suggested the fudgy brownie with chocolate sauce as she said it was one of the most popular items. I also got a heart shaped iced cookie for my folks to try. The brownie was mediocre, it was just a dense and slightly dry chocolate cake drenched in too much chocolate sauce. I dont know what the cookie tastes like, but considering it cost R60, I hope it tastes amazing. One brownie and one cookie, total cost R125.00. Sadly disappointed.

The most adorable little cake shop ever!!! The brownies are to die for but the cookies are kinda average but if were being honest the point of the shop is the instagramability so Im a big fan

My family loved this place and the people are absolutely wonderful. There is such a variety and rich family history at this place. The cakes are AMAZING and you can even watch the bakers as they decorate the cakes which is mezmerizing.

The red velvet cupcake I was informed had 100% beetroot extract as a ingredient, which ads so much value to the cupcake. The cupcake was adorned with a fresh light purple flower and tasted decadent and divine. I felt like I had a glimpse of heaven here on earth. If you desire fresh baked goods, this is the place to be. For a extraordinary experience, go to Charlys bakery. I was also informed by a very special lady that Charlys bakery would like to bring some sweetness back into this world. Charlys lived up to everything I imagined it would be. I placed my order via WhatsApp, told them what I had in mind, and then they brought it to life! Oh and I ordered all the way from Durban to collect as soon as we landed in CPT. They handled everything effortlessly! And made my life so much easier too :) thanks guys! Delicious! Beautiful! Always always always wanted to visit this attraction when in Cape town. Visited recently and was great to see this bakery. Firstly the cakes are wayyyy over priced and not the greatest of taste however its all in the experience. Been once, seen it all...only go if you are in the area.

I was VERY DISAPPOINTED with both the product and the level of customer service that I received.They charged me R400 for piping icing on a cake that would have cost R850. It was a unicorn cake, but the only difference was a layer of icing, a horn and two ears. When I complained about this they said it was my fault for accepting the quote without checking what it was that I was buying. And it was my fault for not complaining in-store on the day. I hadn’t because I was too stunned to say something (and had pre-paid so I wasn’t sure it would even help).When I did complain (a couple of days later – they were closed on Sundays/Mondays), they were NOT UNDERSTANDING or accommodating. In fact, they were quick to point out that it was MY MISTAKE for accepting the quote (which I had done over the phone, without seeing the finalg product, and pre-paying); and for not checking what it was that I was buying. In fact, they asserted that the effort and materials justified the additional fee.Perhaps I was wrong, but when one of your customers complains about a disappointment, whether it be as result of a service or in my case an unmet expectation, surely you would do something to set it right or to amend the relationship (even if I was an unwary/uninformed consumer). In contrast, they were argumentative and just made me feel like this was my fault.I WILL NOT recommend using this store… if you do, beware.Ps. Their reply below is only part of the conversation. I don’t get upset often but here I just feel like I was taken advantage of and not treated well when I complained. Thanks for your replay below, it isn’t what I was complaining about.The right response would have been: I’m sorry you feel that way, how can I make it up to you, instead you mishandled a customer… you should not be in client service

What a cool place with loads of tantalizing cakes and cookies for the taste buds. Kinda reminds me a bit of Carlos in NYC only more artisanal.

I love Charlys cupcakes since the first time I tried them about 10 years ago. I dont live in SA anymore, but the lovely staff at Charlys helped me organize a shipment of these beautiful and delicious cupcakes to a friend who had just had a baby. It was so easy to do and they were so helpful and quick to respond. Im confident that the taste is amazing and now I know their customer service is on par! Thank you, Charlys!!!

What a treat! Literally, we visited over Halloween time and they had loads of Halloween treats to buy ;)There is so much effort and creativity which goes into their cakes and biscuits. The variety is vast and a sense of fun all around. The best is the Oompa Lumpas (the staff), all beautiful people. The counter staff have a great sense of humour.

First of all, the great things about this bakery is the convenient parking, very friendly staff and wide selection of cakes, cupcakes and other baked goods, which all displays beautifully in the lovely old building.However, the two slices of cake were highly underwhelming and dissapointing. The chocolate cake was extremely dry, not sure if that is by design but sadly we concurred that for the (steepish) prince of R60 per slice there is much better cakes to be had elsewhere in the city bowl.Great to visit for the experience and attentive service but dont expect good quality baked goods!

Was rather disappointed with their vegan cupcakes and lack of vegan options. The cupcakes were also really pricey for the portion size. Staff were helpful and friendly and the coffee was great.

Been trying to get to Charlys for a while, and we finally went, and cupcakes 🧁 were nice cheese cake really average wasnt particularly impressed, the history of the bakery was for me more inticing than the food.

I was sadly dissapointed. Everything is so pretty. Its really nice, to look at. Not one item in an assortment of 5 wildly different pastries impressed me in moisture content, flavour or texture. It tasted like the sugar free option of all those items.The people also seemed distracted and uninterested. Dont know if it was a bad time, but it felt awkward.

I dont even know where to start! Im am lost for words at the exceptional service given to me. We had my mums birthday this past weekend and we were coming from KZN. I was overwhelmed with the planning coupled with travelling with a toddler and a big family group, the extra mile you took in making sure the cake delivery was made on time at the restaurant really left me speechless.I missed the delivery deadline, she phone the manager who confirmed my booking was still with them, organised with him to please accept the cake on my behalf as she was struggling to get hold of me.The cake was exceptionally beautiful! I was excited to pay them a visit however, I bought a slice of chocolate cake and was very disappointed. The cake was dry and very underwhelming, very similar to that of a supermarket cake. At R60 a slice I was expecting a lot more. Not worth it.

Delicious cakes, great coffee and scrumptious cookies, including very friendly oompa loompa staff. All round great experience! Only difficulty was parking in the area, like all shops in and around cape town cbd. But dont let that stop you from getting here and enjoying the delicious eats!

I saw Charlys Bakery on T.V once and went to try it out. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the cakes and cupcakes were delicious. I highly recommend going to Charlys Bakery for the best cake and awesome experience.

Sweet tooth heaven with lots of colours & fun.Hummingbird cake & petit fours are a must try. Parking free on the left side of the entrance otherwise R8 in car park. Although fairly expensive, its worth the experience.

The cakes they make here are beautiful and spectacular! If you want a special cake for a special reason this is the place to go.However I was a bit disappointed in the place as a normal bakery and coffee shop. I had some hummingbird cake and a take away cookie and they were both nice and tasty but not out of this world. The hype as a normal bakery isn’t worth it unless you want pretty cupcakes and cookies. Don’t expect an artisanal bakery with new things and wow things.Really awesome place to take your kids for a treat

Friendliest service & the best cheesecake ever!

2020 and my wife was excited to visit Charleys.On seeing the place we were expecting to be blown away but for me the variety wasnt great. Cookies with different designs, cupcakes with different toppings and and few cakes.Cupcakes and cookies were just the same basic ones with over the top toppings. Tasted the pastry, it was dry... So far, average..We got 2 pieces of cake and a drink to share..when my wife told me how much she paid for the cakes, I expected miracles.WOW...the disappointment was evident on my face, EXPENSIVE and overpriced. I wanted to leave the cake and ask how can they charge so much for something so average. My wife convinced me not to but I could see disappointment in her face as well.I have a very nice Spar where I live and yes they have better tasting cupcakes and cakes.I think Charlys make wonderful looking wedding/birthday cakes but their bakery is average and just worth a look

Everything and more than I expected. I had the cappachino(really nice!)and bluecheese and white chocolate cheesecake.(also nice but Ill rather not say too much about it as it is on my forbidden food list.....soooo youll have to come and taste and experience it yourselve) I am taking home some emoticon biscuits for everyone who ads emotion to my life

One of my favorite bakeries in Cape Town. I love the cookies with the royal icing. The designs are super cute, and they are tasty to boot! Ive tried just about everything and it is all solid. Highly recommend.

We are locals and we come to Charly’s all the time, their delicious vegan and gluten free treats are great tasting and not too pricey. I would highly recommend.

I visited this bakery years ago during the peak of its hype - I only have fond memories of that experience. I brought my family here to hopefully build some new memories - It was truly disappointing.The location is a tad dingy - You need to pay to get Safe parking. Ironic that on the way back to our cars we were threatened and nearly mugged. I also cannot justify the prices there - They clearly cater for an international audience - R50 for a cupcake. Yeah they look great and I am sure it does great for social media marketing but as far as taste - Average at best. Also ordered a double fudge brownie (might not have the terminology correct there) and it was dry as can be. It was smothered in chocolate (did nothing to help the dry brownie itself). The container also leaked all over the car.The bakery itself is also super busy and there is no indication as to where to queue. People stand where they want and on a busy day today it was simply unpleasant. On the plus side - the staff members were friendly.In conclusion (my personal experience may be very different from yours): Unsafe, Overly-hyped and over-priced.

If its cake you want then Charlys bakery is a no brainer

The cookies are delicious but giving a Low rating because of the exorbitantly high prices. We ended up sharing a piece of cake and a coffee! Seriously you can find other bakeries with the same quality and even tastier than this establishment. Even the shops with Bidevest supplied confectionery can compete with taste and quality.
