Ive had the privilege to photograph two of Wynand Wilsenach Architects residential homes. As an architectural photographer I photograph many buildings, residences, guest houses etc. I can truly say that their creativity and design is phenomenal. The owners of both residences are very happy and proud.

Unique personal design with attention to detail.

The project kicked off with enthusiasm and creativity. The conclusion of the project is a nightmarish process that still carries on 11 months after the completion date.

Cape Institute for Architecture Merit Award 2009House LeRouxBloubergstrandWynand Wilsenach ArchitectsThis is an extremely consistent and highly detailed luxury beach house bordering the original village of Bloubergstrand. It is intended for an extended and dispersed family to spend time together in a number of different configurations. The home offers a variety of well scaled and connected internal and outdoor spaces for the family to engage in group and individual activities, allowing for flexibility in terms of use and group size.There is a tight hand on the materials chosen: natural stone and timber; textured crushed shell plaster; with large infill decking and glazing panels and screens punched into the heavy structure. The materials, junctions and combinations are given thorough consideration, understanding and resolution.There are numerous references to nautical forms and materials, appropriate to its seafront location. Although there is considerable bulk used on the site, this building’s scale, form and type is a sound example to the public and surrounding neighbourhood of what good architecture can offer, and one can imagine a community of such buildings in this language would certainly enhance the interface with the public, street and beach front, in contrast to what generally exists in this area.This award is anchored on the complimentary and consistently high level of detailing, the controlled yet interesting spatial experiences, and the overall coherence of the project.
