Decent selection of souvenirs and I did purchase gifts from here in the end. However, I was considering leaving after I was followed from room to room. My sister was followed as well. I won’t be back. We were looking to buy more souvenirs for friends and family and will happily go else where.

A beautiful old building, from outside an eye catcher. Inside, sjoe so lovely, much different stuff to watch and finally to buy the one or other little something. In October 2020 undewr lockdown level 1 restrictions, there was so much space (pity,on ther other hand) to linger and enjoy due to less other touris.

The most comprehensive range of African crafts from South Africa and other parts of Africa. Products are expensive and you cannot haggle but they are good quality and make great gifts. The large shop is spread over several floors with the collectors items located on the upper floors and souvenirs on the ground floor. Staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. Large items can be shipped overseas. The shop is situated in a lovely part of the vast V & A Waterfront outside overlooking docks.

This extraordinary store carries the widest variety of African museum pieces, replicas and knickknacks I have ever seen. Very high quality and fair prices. There are three jam packed floors, with the higher quality items on the higher floors. Items are from everywhere in Africa. Staff are knowledgable, polite and friendly, and made useful recommendations about value. Shipping is available, but not cost-effective for shipments to North America under R3,000. They have literally thousands of masks, as well as various ceremonial and decorative goods. The tourist products are well priced and non-negotiable. If you like to decorate with African items, you can start and end your shopping here.

Interesting stuff, but check it out before you buy it. I purchased a Jade rhino that turned out to be slightly scratched underneath where the price sticker was. The side with no sticker was perfectly shiny. Still rating it two stars as I should have been more careful. However, given the price I would have expected a bit more discretion from the store.

This writer experienced prejudice while shopping to buy souvenirs for my family back in New York City in the African trading port establishment Wednesday , September 21, 2016, at approximately 9:15 am hours while on vacation.Upon entering this establishment I greeted what appeared to be an older African man by saying good morning. Said male hesitantly looked up in my direction to even acknowledge me as I asked him a question in regards to the prices of what appeared to be various African mask. While observing the mask to select one for purchase I noticed what appeared to be an Indian man standing at the top of a stair case. After viewing the mask I decided to explore the establishment for potential additional gifts for my family, as the fact being all of my family members did not want a mask from Africa, and this gift would have been suitable for one of the members of my family, different objects other than this I knew were more desired by alternative members in my family. During the time of my searching for a gift, I turned around and noticed that the Indian male I had seen earlier at the top of the stairs appeared to be following me and watching me in the store. When I observed him doing this he did not ask me if I needed help or if I had any questions about any of the merchandise. He simply stared at me with an emotionless face as if he were monitoring my movements in the store. Offended, I decided to leave this establishment and I did such without incident. I have not traveled 7,803 miles, a 19hr + flight from New York City to Cape Town South Africa to be subject to prejudice while on vacation. I experience this enough in New York City. We are in the year 2016 and it is unfortunate some people still prescribe to the ignorance of the past. I refuse to support empty-headedness, which in my humble opinion was the behavior displayed by this misinformed individual.

I purchased some beautiful cushion covers for a friend. Chantal Puma from the store was amazingly helpful in assisting me, I was buying remotely from the UK and another friend who happened to be travelling to Cape Town picked them up for me. The recipient of the cushion covers was absolutely delighted, thanks so much to Chantal for all your help.

Spectacular clean African market. Salespeople are not at all pushy like the markets on Long Street. The building was also clean and didn’t stink like the one on long street. I browsed around and found just what I wanted. A lady was so so helpful to me but was not pushy. HIGHLEY RECCOMEND!

On 21st December I made the unfortunate decision to visit the African Trading Ports store/gift shop on V and A waterfront in Cape Town.I was disgusted to see that this store was selling offensive T-shirts. With the widely known Simpson characters depicted as Golliwogs.I was informed by staff members that items in the store were selected by the owners for sale in his store. In 2018 I could not believe I was seeing something so clearly offensive being sold in Africa.Everyone involved from design, production and sale should feel deeply ashamed.

Very bad service. This store closed in 21:00, after dinner , I run into the house in 20:55 and want to buy 4 animal decorations (over 50000R), the staff block me outside. I tell him I will leave next day so it’s my last chance to buy, and it left 5 minutes, but the staff is still have a bad attitude and push me out of the door and he looks just like a gang member. Bad service is not enough to describe, it’s should be worst service I had ever seen.

A variety of African craft sculptures of various shapes and sizes are placed around the ground floor of the building. According to the data, the entire African art and handicrafts from Angola to Zimbabwe, including sculptures, artifacts, ceramics, pottery, bronzes and glassware, can be found here. In addition to the works of well-known artists, there are also some young and new artists, and even private collectors treasures for sale, and also provide transportation services around the world.

Place with five floors of wonderful artifacts, available for sale and with a private collectors collection as well. It bothers me to be a store and not a museum in the face of so much African cultural and historical wealth that can be bought by anyone with money. But anyway, the place made me extremely fascinated with all the pieces.

Certainly there is plenty to find in this shop and there is something for everyone. But my experience so far requires me to give it a bad mark. This is my 3rd visit to South Africa, and more particularly to Cape Town, so I know this shop very well.Last year I bought a tray that was worth 380 rand at the time.I wanted to buy a second one this time around, so I went to the store last week. I was delighted to see that the set was still the same price. I didnt take it then because I was on foot.Im going back to the store today, and surprisingly, the plateau is 430 rand. The saleswoman tries to make me believe that there had been sales the previous week, but by insisting I made her understand that I was convinced that they had inflated the prices because the summer period begins and that the tourists were starting to arrive in greater numbers. On this reflection, the saleswoman could not deny, and it is therefore disappointed by this kind of practice that I leave the store, and will not set foot there again.
