Very fine wine in the mountains of Calitzdorp

Beautiful drive out to Peter Baylys with Magical little vineyard. The best vintage Port by far.

For spectacular scenery, take gravel road after calitzdorp via Redstone Hills to Peter Bayly wines. Stunning crafted port & white port. Delicious Chenin blanc. Friendly hosts. Lovely venue. Unforgettable experience.

Was recommended this off the beaten track winery/port house by a Calitzdorp local. So chuffed we took the drive out to see hands on small scale production of his white and red wines and ports. The wines were delicious and the ports were absolutely outstanding. Peter was inviting and passionate about his product and the area. The farm is a little slice of heaven. Highly recommended. Make sure to call ahead to make sure he is in.

Peter Bayly has been truly blessed with a little slice of heaven which he so graciously shares with passers-by. On arrival we were greated by free roaming chickens, two very happy dogs and Peter himself. The wine and conversation started flowing immediately and the hospitality given by Peter and his wife Yvonne, especially midday on a Sunday was kind, warm and generous. We were able to sample a selection of their collection, my favorite by far being the white port with tonic water which if you like gin and tonic, you must try this. Peter suggests you add mint which I can only imagine will further enhance the taste. A must try! If you are in the area, give Peter Bayly a stop (the Chenin is also one of my favorites, really is amazing too!)

OMG! What a find. This place is situated in a little piece of Karoo heaven. The micro climate mimics the Douro and so Peter produces some incredibly good wines and ports. Being (self proclaimed) wine and port aficionados, we were sceptical about SA port. Peter’s award winning ports have restored our faith. These are world class!! Such a friendly welcome too - from Peter and the dogs!! Definitely worth a visit off the beaten track.

Dropped by without any booking after a slightly rough but very scenic drive to be very warmly welcomed by Peter and his wife. Every single wine I tasted was amazing, even for someone who normally avoids Port. It was a shame I could bring back one bottle due to my countrys custom laws, but I will be back!

Memorable and well worth the drive to experience beautifully crafted wines in an authentic farm house. Unusual Portuguese varieties in ideal climatic conditions provide interesting and delicious wines that are very reasonably priced. Peter is a charming and knowledgeable host. Highly recommended - especially if you only have time to visit one winery in this region. Use your GPS in Google maps ti check the route up a lovely river valley. The tourist maps are not to scale. Continue past the dam and gallery then keep going - you haven’t missed it!

Superb wines in a beautiful location. A small family run winery. Peter is a passionate winemaker. Very reasonably priced gold medal winning wines. Well worth visiting, only 15km from the centre of Calitzdorp.

My wife and daughter visited Peter Bayly Wines in December 2016, after all the praises I’ve heard, we had to make ‘the pilgrimage’ to the estate. The 15 km trip on the gravel road from Calitzdorp shouldn’t put you off, you won’t regret it. We had a very memorable afternoon on the 23rd December 2018 filled with wonderful hospitality, lots of laughter, and a very memorable wine and port tasting experience.The wines are of excellent and unique quality and the white port is the only of its kind in the area, they are simply ‘an orgasm to the palette’.Peter and Yvonne thank you very much for being such wonderful hosts.

20min drive outside Calitzdorp, well worth a visit. We have been buying their wines and ports for years now, there is simply nothing better.

A lovely experience if you are willing to take on a rough gravel road to this place.

My parents, wife and I decided to visit Calitzdorp for my birthday weekend. What I thought would be the best places to visit first for wine tastings turned out to be wrong, and we visited the best place last. Sure it required a little extra effort to let Peter and Yvonne know that wed like to taste their wines, but we sure didnt regret the extra email. Yvonne responded within 30min and we were set for the treatment of our life. Unlike most places that only have great tastings, mostly due to higher client traffic and location, the tasting experience at Peter Bayly wines were exceptional. We were welcomed with great hosts, laughter, insight and knowledge... And then some... And then the wines were brought out...man what a treat. Every single one of their, most Portuguese grape varietal, wines were CRAFTLIKE! Beautifully crafted, easygoing, everyday drinking wines that still has ageing potential. Still cant get over them. If ever youd like something more from your winetasting visit to Calitzdorp... This is the first place you SHOULD visit.
