Best experience Ive ever had of a Home Affairs Office. Applied for ID and Passport, which took about 15 minutes from checking in at reception, having my picture taken in their photo booth, fingerprints and sitting with a consultant. The biometric system is very efficient. Documents I applied for was ready within 10 days. No Queues when i collected in the afternoon. Coupled with the friendly and courteous staff, Id recommend this office to anyone.

The system here is effective and quick. I was helped promptly by friendly employees. I completed my passport renewal process in less than 20 minutes. I was there early though, but if you are willing to be there early, you will be out early. Well done to the manager and his/her staff at Home Affairs Caledon!

I am an American and I recently had to register the birth of my daughter. When we first went in to do so we were told that nothing could be done on the day because my immigration status had to be verified with Pretoria. Considering that I had my original valid work permit with me in my passport I found this pretty irritating. They said they would call me back when this had been verified and to be honest, I figured Id never hear from them. To my surprise, they called 5 days later and said I was all set to come in and register my baby. When we arrived to do so we were in and out in about 30 minutes. Im honestly shocked at the excellent service.

We arrived at 7-45am and joined the short queue outside. We were 8th. The doors opened promptly at 8am. The process was straightforward and no paperwork was required. After signing in, I produced my passport for renewal and was given a number. I was then directed to the photo queue. I waited a short while before having my fingerprints and photos taken. The guy doing it was friendly and allowed me to check the photo was okay before confirming it. I then sat and waited for the final step. I was third in the queue and my number was soon called. The lady was very sweet. There was no stress at Caledon Home Affairs. There are not the huge numbers that Cape Town needs to deal with. I had the job done in 45 minutes from the moment I walked in the door at 8am. Good job. Go with low expectations and a good friendly attitude.

Oh no, This place is useless. They just close when they feel like it 2:45 week day its locked . Thy do not answer a phone, oh ja they to busy apparently - this is a joke. The girls 3 of them sat inside from 15:15 doing absolutely nothing. This office finds pleasure in making peoples lives difficult. Wonder what they will do if you do that to them. If South Africa did not have the sunshine we would have nothing. Because in this country not a lot is working and most ministeres and manager in these department are so in denial. Be aware that regarding Saturday opening hours, they are only open on the last Saturday of every month. Very efficient operation in Caledon, minimal forms, most functions were computerised, officials were friendly and helpful, signs clearly listed the various fees. Queues were clearly marked, photo and fingerprint function worked without a glitch and their meet & greet officials were helpfull. Only downside was that we queued a while, and I believe even folks collecting had to join the same queuing system... hence the lost star. Allow 1 to 2 hours for your visit.
