Amazing place been visiting for 5 years, love the experience. (Go try the hottest pool and then take a dip in the fridgerium) Recently they have closed the sauna and steam room due to COVID 19. The food is . . . Not that great, try the black sheep(in hotel, closed for renovations) or the barn(reasonably priced with a killer rump). The breakfast buffet has changed to and ordering service.

I will tell you some thing that online travel agents do not want you to know. When reserving hotels use ʜᴏᴛᴇʟʙᴜʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏᴍ They have the best deals on hotels! So much better than using expedia, priceline, agoda. No doubt about that!!!Great service and helpful staff. Covid protocols in place. Enjoyed the night at your hotel.

Getting there is half the fun. This place is absolutely wonderful. Tranquil, peaceful, relaxing, a place everyone should experience. Summer or Winter, swim in the cold water pool or go to the warm water. Early morning or late at night in the warm pool is the best. The king size bed is so comfortable youd want to stay in it all day but its impossible because you have to experience the breathtaking views and so much more.

This place has so much potential. The beds, linen and pools were amazing. The overall interior needs major upgrading. I had to call for a 2 prompt plug to charge my device. The restaurant food is not good - we had to get food at the garage outside. Theres no menu in the room. Braai facilities would be a great option since the food is not good.

The service was very bad. Not very accomadating. Front of house staff is not the friendliest. The restaurant menu is very limited and doesnt have much for little kids to eat which makes it very difficult when traveling with kids. Breakfast was a nightmare as there was no oats or weetbix for kids and the staff was all over the place got our entire breakfast order messed up.The security on the premises are rude and does not know how to speak to guest which made us feel very un welcomed.Everything you ask for is a no and they will not even try to accommodate you. Asking for a glass for the room even an ice bucket was an issue. Staff acting as if you are being a nuisance when asking for somethingThe rooms can do with some upgrading our showers taps was loose and the bath had a shade of yellow which isnt appealing to the eye.The pools are breathtaking but thats about itI will definitely not be returning to Caledon spa very soon.

Lockdown has killed the spirit of the hotel and casino. It felt very flat and no one seemed interested or interacted with us as we wandered around. The hot springs in the spa were amazing. Naturally heated water gushes out of the ground and through a series of pools. Even on a cold winters day they were really enjoyable. As a venue it is starting to feel a little tired and in need of some tlc. There is nothing wrong with it, it has just lost its sparkle.

Were on our way back home to cape town from Warmwaterberg and decide to stop off at Caledon Spar for a night just to finalize what would of been a awesome holiday away. On route to Caledon we called and made a booking for a room for when we get there so we can utilize the hot springs. My wife spoke to a Kay over the phone and when we drove all the way there we got treated so badly by a lady on reception as if we couldnt afford to stay there. Took our details and just told us they will call if a room is a available. We waiting for over and hour and never got any call and it was after 2pm which is after check in time. No1 said we could of use the springs while we wait as we thought we didnt want to pay for the pools while waiting as if we could check in we could utilize all the facilities. My wife and I then decided after the long wait and drove back home to Cape town as we got no call what so ever. We only got a call past 6pm which was 4 hours later to find out if anyone called us. So level of bad service in the front which is supposed to be your most professionally mannered staff. We didnt expect any free bees as we even offered to pay upfront as they we gonna check for an available room. We were judged by appearance.

Its a great place however if you dont mind some cockroaches in the lights, some broken tiles and little to no vibe during Covid then this is the place for you, overall it was okay, the experience was ok, it was very overpriced for the quality and service, also we were miss informed and not treated very well by restaurant / hotel staff - the reception told us that we can go to the restaurant and place an order before 21h00, we were then refused service when placing the order at 20h50.From my personal experience I will never visit that place again, it was not worth R 4 000 for 2 nights, more like R 500 per night. Also there is nothing going on during covid, there was so many unfriendly people there as well, apart from the hot springs there was not much of anything good to report, our home has a better quality and things to do than the run down hotel, more of a 2 / 3 star - City lodge is better and cheaper, save your money and go elsewhere.

Good experience overall, particularly with the hot spring pools. But the facilities leave a lot to be desired. The rooms were clean but the furniture was worn. It seemed that some updates were done recently, like the new aircon unit and fridge, but other things clearly hadnt been updated in years. The pool sides were never cleaned, goose poop and dirt were visible the entire weekend. Food was good, but there werent many options. The grounds are beautiful and well kept.

Covid precautions make it difficult to rate. Booking was simple, we were expected and the room was clean. Really enjoyed the comfortable bed and daily clean linen. Sadly the dining leaves much to be desired. There are three restaurants as advertised but one is for breakfast only and one is only Fri-Sat nights. The remaining one, a diner, has a very limited menu. The breakfasts quality is really poor in terms of preparation (this because of Covid restrictions I suspect). The Spa side is well run and the pools great. We did not use the Casino. I would rate the hotel no higher than a 3-Star. Post Covid a better rating may be possible.

The Hotel was amazing and the pools were exactly what we needed. Check-in and check-out was smooth. The GM was very accommodating and most of the staff too. Breakfast was very average but Leana, our waitress was great and really efficient. The restaurant food was horrible. Da Vincis pizzas looked like a child made it, Black Sheeps lamb chops was drenched in basting. It was just plain and simply terrible. This took away from the overall experience but other than the bad quality of food, everything else was good. Will definitely go back, especially when I need some relaxing and rejuvenation.

I have been a guest at Caledon on previous occasions, I am not one to complain easily. Shortcomings were reported to reception staff, promises were made that it would be attended to, sadly nothing was done. My husband and myself this time arrived as walk-ins, we were kindly received by the front desk staff. However standards are steadily declining, carpets are filthy, bathroom is grubby. I reported a blocked wash hand basin and a large section of sun filter curtain which hung loose from the curtain rail. Once again nothing was done. Breakfast sady is churned out on a conveyer belt, nothing worse than cold fried eggs. Dining room staff are friendly and trying their best with Covid protocol. I left disappointed.

Review №59

Firstly, I feel like Caledon labeling itself “a hotel” is a little bit of a stretch as its very clearly an inn.I will not lie, our first night was truly dreadful, because the main and pool bars are closed (due to covid I assume) they had no other operation operational bar other than the bar on the casino floor which has no chairs and you’re unable to sit, relax and have a few drinks with your travel mates. We were forced to sit at 1 of the only 2 restaurants available, the black sheep (which is only operational between 5pm and 10 pm and the kitchen closes at 9pm) or the Davinci, both of which offer absolutely no options for those who are vegetarian or vegan. Which was disheartening. It was a really difficult adjustment for me. The service is not what you’d expect from a 4 star rated establishment, it wasn’t great. It’s not the servers fault though, it just seems as though both restaurants are grossly understaffed, this could be a result of covid. However, the rides turned in our favour, the next day as we had an appointment at the spa which was AMAZING! It truly made up for all the discomfort we were faced with on day 1. The staff is polite, friendly and professional and go out of their way to make sure you’re comfortable. I truly think they saved our trip! They were the MVPs of the trip. The Caledon hot springs were also really good, if you’re comfortable braving the threat of covid and don’t mind being packed in the pools with multiple other people. There a few hot springs and all of them were pretty packed, I’m not too sure that there was a dedicated staff member present to monitor the numbers and ensure that covid regulations are followed, but alas it was a good time nonetheless!Unless you enjoy playing the slots and spending time on the casino floor, this place might not be for you. Another saving grace is SA forest adventures, led by comfort which offers Quad biking, zip lining etc, so if you’re not big on gambling but do find yourself there (because you’re a sucker for an exceptional spa experience or would like to spend time in the relaxing but packed hot springs) please do give Comfort and his team at SA Forest Adventures a try. They are a freelance service that isn’t tied to the hotel. Their prices are also really reasonable and the service is great!I do not recommend the place for a romantic weekend away, their rates are not worth the little that the hotel has to offer. All in all, a disappointing experience, the spa saved it for 1.5 hours, and SA Forest Adventures was a great way to close off the weekend.

We use to often visit caledon spa as a family holidays away6or even just day visit... However this time the visit was terrible. The prices have not changed but the availability of services is shocking, the hotel seems neglected and poorly maintained. Our bathroom ceiling was mouldy as well as the tiles. There is no in room dining services (due to covid, which makes no sense) and no on site restaurant besides Da Vinci at the casino which you have to go an collect yourself and we were offered KFC as alternative meal option which we also needed to go and get ourselves in the town. No in room dining service at a hotel then you shouldnt be hotel but rather a self catering resort. Breakfast was not great, no buffet and a small list of options. i asked for boiled egg for my daughter and was told only scrambled and fried until i persisted that she go an ask the chef in the back to boil the eggs. And if you expect a good cup of coffee for brekki, you will get vending machine grade coffee. I called the reception asking for 3 pool towels and they insisted i pay R200 deposit per towel. In my experience of hotel stay it was the first time a hotel demanded R200 per towel, its usually standard to give your guest pool towels at no cost. Photo booth at games is broken (blurry pics) but still in operation taking in guests R20s. Quality and service has dropped and in some cases removed completely but price remains the same! This hotel could be old but charming but but its getting old and miserable.

We booked a suite at the Caledon hotel and spa for a weekend getaway. We had excellent service, the staff in the hotel, restaurant and spa were super friendly and helpful most especially Eloise. However, the rooms are in need of a revamp as everything seems quite old. The doors are creaky and stiff. There are 2 TVs in the room neither of them smart TVs. The towel warmers dont work. The toilet light goes on with movement and since its in the room, if one person uses the bathroom in the middle of the night the room has that light creeping in until it switches off automatically. The pools are not very aesthetically pleasing unlike other hot water spring resorts and need to be cleaned more often. For the price paid for a suite at this hotel I did not find it very worth it.Overall the experience was good. The view from the room of the garden was lovely. The room was quite comfortable and it was peaceful. The spa treatments were amazing and Belinda was a brilliant therapist.

Wow, to say I am disappointed, is an understatement. We got there’s 2:20pm to check in and they could not find my payment I made online to secure my booking. I booked a Valentines Special. This included a R350 dinner voucher and R400 Spa Treatment voucher.Took them 10min to determine which room was ours. Off we went while they looked for my payment. Rooms were dated but clean and comfortable. There was no tea or coffee in the room.We went directly to the Spa to check what’s on offer and book our treatment. We were told that they were fully booked and that we could not have any of the treatments. We could however redeem our voucher with facial products ( which are all seriously overpriced ). We asked if we could swap our voucher for a food voucher then. No. Could we use it at a later stage? No. So the voucher was a no go.In the pools, one of the other people staying there suggested we go and place our order for our dinner right then and there, as it is crazy in the evenings with massive lines etc. we were doing to eat in our room anyway. We went and placed our order and said we would like it ready at 8pm. We went to fetch our food as room service ( that is advertised ) was not available. We took our food to our room, to discover that they had given us styrofoam containers and 2 plastic forks. We were having steak. Sauces were missing. So back I went to get the sauces and ask for plates and proper cutlery. We were given plates after I had to beg and was given 2 plastic knives. I had to beg and explain that we ordered steak and could not eat it without proper cutlery. The sauce we requested was not available. The sauce they gave us was off and sour ( cheese sauce ). By the time I got back to the room, our food was ice cold. We ordered our steaks to be medium to well done. It was raw. The wife and I had our cold chips and a few pieces of steak from the edge that was kind of edible. I was too disappointed and tired to complain again. We left it and went to sleep. Suddenly our room phone started ringing. It was 10:30pm. I didn’t answer. There were kids and people running up and down the hallways and banging doors till past 11.Now the wife and I are turning 40, so in no ways are we old folks or fuddyduddies. However this was not a relaxing evening as we had planned. The next morning we went for a last swim in the spa pools ( very green and slimy with algae ), but we didn’t mind.We went to check out and we were presented with a bill. They had found my online payment but said they put me in a room that was R218 more than the room I booked online. I never asked for another room or was told that the room they are putting us in, was going to cost more. I of course said that it was ridiculous. They plainly ignored me and waited for me to pay.By that time I had had enough and just wanted to leave. I paid them and left. They did not refund of the R400 for 2 pool towels. They will pay that into our bank account during the week. I am not holding my breath that we will receive that. There were no porters or anyone to assist you outside the hotel itself.Very very bad service and not a nice time at all.

We are booking in later but not sure of the custstomer service is like that when booking in, we dont feel like experiencing even worse service on arrival... I suggest you update your reception staff with customer relations courses. Next time instead of being rude and treating your clients with disrespect take their number and phone them back when it is more convenient for you to talk. Contemplating rather going to Le Franschhoek.
