Just got discharged at this facility and its absolutely wonderful from the friendly staff to the facilities. For an old historic building, it has been greatly improved and would highly recommend this hospital to everyone looking to get quality help while having a comfortable homely stay. Love you St Josephs

Unfortunately there is no zero star. I just give them a star because I have no choice. My experience there was horrible. The nurses treat people differently. One of my sins there was that the guy who is in charge is my ex student at Primary school.I waited on the chair at the passage to be discharged. Everything was captured on camera and I dont care.I went home minus my bottle of perfume. I could smell it from one of the night staff. If they forgot something they can rewind their camera to the 15th of June this year. I prayed to God to save me. 🙏ISome of my experiences I wont mention. The nurses know what I know. The doctors were good, I wont lie. Everyone experience is different. I cant discourage anyone from going there, but for me this is the worst hospital ever.

An excellent facility. Staffed by dedicated professionals. The nurses, occupational therapists, cleaning staff, caterers...everyone. They saved my life.

Everyones condition is different. I found that they treat everyone the same which was a struggle when you try to explain the condition you are there for. I found also that this facility is more of a holiday resort for ALOT of people that just want to get away from the reality of life. They do not pay attention to your condition and there is no orientation or rather a tour of how every aspect regarding breakfast lunch and dinner works. Also they dont tell you that you have to go get your meds at a certain place and the times. Will NEVER go there ever again and Wouldnt recommend this facility at all. Just dont go there as you will find yourself like a prisoner in the middle of the night with no way to leave. The idea is that they get you in there and try to dose you into a state worse off from the time you arrived so that they can squeeze at least 21 days out of your medical aid. This way, if you are a person that just needs a retreat ...everybody wins.. For genuine conditions, you are better off dealing with it at home. With the correct support at home, you can get through your addictions or withdrawals etc. As for the food... I have no words.

AWFUL! Please do not go here if you need help! Look for something better and preferably long term! This hospital made me worse with enabling me and overall having no staff who cared.

It is THE dirtiest hospital I have ever seen. the floors are not washed, damp in the walls, there are large pieces of ceiling missing, black mould in the showers between the tiles and the carpets smells like old wet dag blankets ...

Fundamentaly a great hospital with great staff. My only gripes are that every single window is nailed shut so there is no fresh air at all. You must got to a smoking area to get fresh air. Unbelievably short sighted. There is no acces to sunlight either. The only place you can find sunlight is the garden area. Access is controlled between 2:30 - 4:30 at which point there is no sunlight in the garden area. Depressing.

Dont pay attention to the nasty reviews. They are not representative. This is my experience in visiting my loved one: The building is an old historic religious centre and place of care that has been refurbished as a private hospital. The re-decor is really done well in putty and white colours with exquisite contemporary bird artwork in all the wide corridors and an etched glass piece by Durbans beloved Andrew Vester in the foyer. The furniture is contemporary. There is relatively decent coffee obtainable from the shop. The psychiatric and psychological care that my loved one has received here was phenomenal and the nursing staff was very caring and considerate. There are art therapy sessions, relaxation sessions, dance sessions and group therapy sessions - all voluntary. I have only heard good reports from others who have been patients at this hospital.

This psychiatric facility is not for people who prefer to occasionally be in the presence of other people or those who need regular interaction with people other than the staff. I am such a person and unfortunately, my particular doctor did not seem to understand that the perception of isolation led to a worsening of my symptoms, which lead to me asking to be released.

Not my experience but someone close.APPALLING Service by Bward night staff.Patient vomiting all over the shared room at 9:30pmIt took the nurses an hour to arrange a cleaner to clean the room. At 10pm nurses are not giving medication. What are they doing. Surely the cleaners should be told that human secretions are a priority over cleaning toilets. Where is the hygiene. Don’t they know host of Illnesses vomit carries. And the friend is on IMMUNOSUPRESSANT which the staff should be aware of. No matron at st Joseph’s. Is there only one cleaner too ? No answer when I call. No answer when B ward directly call. Are we sleeping atOur duty stations already ?

Was admitted to hospital today 11/3/2019 at about 12 noon. This is my third admission to this hospital. My doctor is the best around.I have been diagnosed with bipolar mood disorder, major deppresion and Parkinsons.I waited 3 hours to get a sandwich which i requested and even that was not correct.I am suppose to take my Parkinsons medication 4 times a day which they didnt give me thus causing my hand started to Shakers. They missed 2 does and just didnt bother until i brought it to the nurses attention. To my surprise the sister in charge doubled the dosage at 3.15pm.I have been to the hospital 3 times and they still didnt improve their service or the education of the nurses.I decided to discharge myself from the hospital at 3.30pm.I dont undestand why LIFE is not doing anything about the service they provide and train their nurses.I will be informing my medical aid about this because i was there for only 3 and a half hours.I was not surprised that i didnt recieve a call but it happened before and they just didnt care even after complaining. What is going on at this hospital.Life st joseph what is the matter with you people?
