I knew it was going to be a good day when we arrived at their offices and spotted a Barberton daisy next to the sidewalk. Wynand is a great tour guide, very knowledgeable. Went above and beyond to make our experience 5-star. Note to self: gold panning is harder than it looks. Will recommend to everyone.

I just spent a day with Dusty Tracks on the mountains of Barberton followed by a tour of an old gold mine. What a day! What a mind blowing day. A snapshot of 150 year old history combined with a view of 3.6billion years of history. That such a place exits in South Africa is an enormous privilege. Wynand is both passionate and deeply knowledgeable of the area. I cannot recommend this enough. Bravo!

I could not have hoped for a better introduction to the magical mountains behind Barberton than provided by Wynand of Dusty Tracks. My interest in the area is an historical one and I learned a lot from Wynand about the early mining endeavours in the area, along with fascinating insights into the geology that gave the area its huge and enduring mineral resources. From the history of early diggers and prospectors during Barbertons gold rush in the mid-1880s to the complex issues surrounding todays informal prospectors - the so-called zamazamas - and their fraught relationship with large-scale commercial mines, to the modern dynamics between the often-conflicting imperatives of mines and nature conservation, Wynand had both illuminating and amusing stories to tell and information to impart. Having the opportunity to experience a part of the extraordinarily beautiful natural environment in this region that is not generally accessible to the public made this an even more unforgettable experience for me, and an opportunity that I regard as a great privilege. Wynand went out of his way to accommodate my specific interests and I appreciated that - this was no canned, rushed package tour; we stopped and looked and explored often, and in a leisurely way. The Golden Quarry was a highlight; Im still in awe of how that enormous cavern was excavated by men with little more than hammers and chisels. And the natural environment above the mines that honeycomb the mountains is some of the most spectacular Ive seen anywhere - truly food for the soul. What a treat. Thank you, Wynand.
