Thank you to the Hitgeheim team for our wonderful 3night stay. Our accommodation was secluded and very luxurious and the meals were delicious and very tastefully presented. Chefs homemade ice cream was totally unforgettable. Special thanks to Christo for co-ordinating our stay, Edwin for serving each meal with a welcoming smile, George for keeping our car shiny and clean and to Steven for sharing your knowledge of the Addo Elephant National Park and for taking us to all the good viewing spots. This place ia a little piece of heaven. Beautiful breath taking views. So tranquil and relaxing in stunning rooms. The staff are genuinely friendly and will go above and beyond to make you comfortable and do everything to make your wishes possible. Martha is a gem. The food is absolutely delicious.Stephen our tour guide to Addo Park was funny, interesting and oh so patient with our group. A huge thank you for a brilliant stay. Highly recommended.
Cared for our every whim....staff been there for a while ..well trained friendly professional...owner Archie hands on ...great story teller...always in the back ground...the place itself is well furnished comfortable peaceful and compares favourably to any 5 star lodge....oh and the food ..three course done by a rated chef...every meal a memory...game drive arranged into Addo guided was knowledgeable and fun....Cant wait to go back...thank you Archie and staff for your professional friendliness can do attitude and just being so patient with us (if you lucky enough to corner Archie get him to tell you about the area....he has a wealth of stories being a descendant of the early pioneers )
The hospitality was outstanding. The place was devine, calming and tranquil. The perfect couples getaway, semi-remote and allows time to relax and truly bond.

Four days of sheer bliss. Christo and his team looked after us with care and love. Food and rooms are amazing. The rates for locals during lock down is well worth the money and I can highly recommend it. Thank you for our adventure.
Having paid in full for our trip to Hitgeheim in July 2019 we were very disappointed when in reaction to Covid 19 the South African Government placed a ban on international travel. As with all the hotels we booked along the Garden Route which was our plan we contacted Hitgeheim to let them know that we were unfortunately unable to join them for our stay and to request a refund for the full amount wed paid. Hitgeheim offered to postpone our holiday, however this was not possible for either ourselves or indeed our travelling companions so rather than issue our refund Hitgeheim suggested that we try and claim the 48,100 ZAR paid direct to themselves via our travel insurance. We duly claimed but unfortunately our insurers denied the claim owing to the fact that we had been offered a postponement in the first instance. We once again contacted Hitgeheim to ask for the return of our monies and were totally astounded by Archie the owners response. He was sad that our claim had failed however his priorities were to his business and that he was not prepared to offer any level of refund or indeed honour his original offer of a postponement! His exact words when we expressed our disappointment were I rest my case. We had booked our 3 week trip independently and ALL other hoteliers with the exception of Hitgeheim did the honourable and morally correct thing and returned our monies. Should you wish to visit Addo please do so, we really loved our first visit so much so we were returning with friends to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. It would be wrong to penalise the Addo region based on the selfish behaviour of one hotelier, however think long and hard before booking Hitgeheim as there are plenty of good Lodges / Hotels in the area that I am sure are more worthy of receiving your hard earned money!
This place is amazing. We arrived here after a long drive and self-guided tour through the Addo Elephant Park. From the moment we arrived, we were well taken care of by their friendly staff Marta and William. The service was exceptional and the little touches really made Hitgeheim stand out (welcome drink, turndown service, car wash, personal greeting by the owner...). The pool was calm and refreshing (no kids!), the views over the valley were beautiful and the food & wine were of high quality. Our only regret is having only booked one night. This is a place I would happily return to - highly recommended oasis!
We really enjoyed ourselves , the staff were all very friendly and very good in whatever they did . The accommodation was exceptional and the food was really very good . We will certainly recommend Hitgeheim to all our friends and family for a place to visit .

Fantastic service and a fantastic atmosphere with a view given by the Gods themselves! The food was brilliant and the staff were extremely friendly and tentative to all our needs and wants. Will certainly recommend this venue anytime to anyone! They will be seeing us again in the near future for sure!

The hospitality at the Hitgeheim is world class. The food is great, the rooms well appointed, and the views breathtaking. But the something extra that you will not find anywhere else is the phenomenal people who work there, you will be hard pressed to find more accommodating individuals anywhere. I would recommend going to South Africa solely to stay at the Hitgeheim.
A best-kept secret near Kirkwood and Addo! Warm, friendly staff, beautiful views and hearty South African fare. Archie is larger than life and exudes real South African hospitality.

The staff was really nice and polite; they managed every guided tours for us and pick up us from the airport on time; the honeymoon suite was AMAZING and I would definitely recommend it; the property is calm, peaceful and perfect to have some rest.

Good service, after evening safari was heated room, the electric blanket was turned on, everything was ready to make a hot chocolate with marshmallows. Nice location!
Reception super. They really pay attention to all the details here. Drinks and food are cheap but of a top quality. Rooms are absolutely beautiful and are also cleaned several times a day. For breakfast I have not finished words so nicely and still at a unique location. I think the host is a Burgundian person himself. He performs his job really super tapassionating. The safari to Scotia is also a must ask for the guide Charl this is the madness. The safari to Addo we found a little less it was windy and have only seen elephants

We had a wonderful stay here at Hitgeheim Country Lodge! You get a very warm welcome including a welcome wine and the stay is very relaxing.The rooms are well furnished and the panoramic view is very nice. You can take part in one of the safaris or enjoy the time at the pool with a glass of wine. Breakfast on the terrace and dinner were delicious.The hotel offers guided tours of the Addo National Park. The group is max. 8 people large. We had a great morning tour with 6 people plus a ranger. It was very impressive.The WiFi is slow and not available everywhere. Our car was washed when we left. We can definitely recommend this accommodation.
We stayed 3 nights with Archie and his team. The location is really something special and the location and the view from there is unique.The lodges are very tastefully decorated, stylish and clean. We felt very comfortable there.You drive through a bush / savannah landscape to the lodge and from there you are not really motivated to look for another restaurant in the evening.The food at Hidgeheim Lodge apparently changes every 3 days. Barbeque or Braii as the locals say, Africa Dinner or 2 dishes to choose from. The food is good average but after 2 weeks in South Africa I can say that there are much better menus for the 400 rand. As I said, it is difficult to find an alternative.The breakfast is very African with toast, egg dishes, jam, quark and fruit. Coffee is included, but for a cappuccino e.g. B. is also taken about 20 Rand. This is certainly not much for a European, but it is simply inappropriate for such a high quality hotel.Likewise, for the absolutely recommendable safari with Schottia, which was booked through the lodge, a transfer fee of 750 Rand per person is charged. For being transported there with up to 9 people on a jeep, it is very worthwhile for Hitgeheim. Of course, this is in the information material that you receive in advance, but who can judge that at this point in time.All in all it was a nice stay and we havent regretted having been there, but probably wouldnt choose the lodge again because a. we already know it and b. the price / performance ratio is simply not consistent.I forgot my baseball cap there and wrote to the lodge asking if it could be forwarded to me within South Africa for reimbursement. I received replies from both Archie and his service manager. Unfortunately the cap was nowhere to be found. At least one has taken care of it.Just make your own picture.

We spent two nights in the premium room. The room was great, large balcony, great bathroom and everything was clean. The dinner is extra class and the breakfast is also excellent. About the hotel we booked two safaris. Super organized and great safaris.
